★Fashion Thread then & now★

We had a lot of posts the past year and they did showcase lots of different styles. With all those posts we saw people entering the fashion scene and some leaving it, though a certain crowd always stayed.
There have been times where the rules have been slightly forgotten, especially the rule about going off topic. While it is totally fine to go off topic some times, we would like to keep it at a minimum however, so that newcomers and people that do not post so often, do not get overlooked.
It’s been a nice year and I thank all of you for your ongoing support and your respect for this thread. It wouldn’t be possible without all of you!






A few words towards the Topic of Fashion now.
Fashion is for all of us a way to express our self and enjoy a different aspect of this game. By giving our characters personality through how they look.
Each of us, has a different view on fashion and what we like and enjoy. In this thread however, we can all come together to share our fashion with each other and also enjoy the fashion of other people. Of course everybody has a different taste to what they like when it comes to fashion, so always keep that in mind. What you my like others might now and vice versa.
But we can offer advice and our opinions in form of constructive criticism, to help others improve their style or get a different view on it. This has helped many people with their characters in the past. Together we can work out great things and we should try to help each other, even if they sometimes do not want to hear it.
It would be nice to see some more constructive criticism this year, so if you have some, share it!

Well, with the new free character slot coming up, I've been making a bunch of different potential characters, and so far, this is the one I'm leaning toward. Started out as a "What if Erin didn't have to be made into a CAST?" design. Gonna wait until the new Character Creator is live (hopefully the standalone comes out before Ep.4 releases) to finalize the decision.

Face is ok, though personally I'd use eyelashes that look lush/thick.
Body, well i'd more or less make hip wider than shoulder and leg length a bit longer than normal (though not that much)

I changed her hair to this fancy hair that I'm digging, just looking for a better outfit. I really don't like how. . .busy some of the outfits are. If you've got any recommendations for an outfit for a character with a bit of hip that aren't super crazy looking, lemme know.

Noses are always my weak spot in games like this when it comes to finagling the finer points of a character. I can just never seem to get them to a point where I'm 100% pleased, like I can with virtually every other feature.

Also, this thread is for male characters as well - there just aren't as many, not unlike the game itself. There's plenty of guy characters that look awesome, though (Demon's fellows immediately come to mind for me). But, of course, if you don't post 'em, there will never be more.

Noses are hard cuz the salon light is a strong frontal light, and it's only after you've exited the salon can you see what went wrong.

Also, a little not-so-secret for making finer adjustments: click on one of the nodes/circle thingy, hit ctrl+z, then use directional button to slowly adjust (´･ω･｀)

As for male characters, have some of my イケメン (´･ω･｀) I haven't changed their look fashionwise (EP4 why u no come sooner?!) but I've made very minute adjustments like making Siera look a bit older (since he's my main matterboard chara and EP4 takes place 2 years) and Gram a bit closer to how I draw him (sharper eye shape)

Yeah, that's definitely something I'm looking forward to with Charlotte and Andrea. So many outfit that I just don't like putting on them because I feel they need stockings, but I don't want to not have the Dewman marks.

I don't personally have a problem with the exaggerated poofy skirts the Shining designers seem rather fond of, except insofar they behave poorly in-game, but this probably comes from years of eye-rolling at the remarkable variety of very awkward (and not a little corny) looking outfits people the world over have actually fought in just fine for centuries.

Conversely I'm less than fond of their raging fetish for frilly fringes damned near everywhere and tube tops that presumably need a recourse to the glue tube to stay on. Though the actual dealbreaker with this particular outfit for me is that awkwardly isolated-looking collar thingy. :/

Kinda like the way the colors match in your example though.

In the Options menu, under Basic Settings, there is a subcategory called Screenshot Settings; you can disable UI on screenshots from there. Alternatively, you can hold down Shift while hitting PrtScn to achieve the same result.

That is a pet peeve of mine as well with several dresses that SEGA released in the game for a while now. Rather annoying that I had to pass up on some of those dresses because of how the skirt or dress just flips up with barely a twitch of movement.

And also, hello everyone! Been a rather long while since I went and posted pictures here! Kinda tried a few months ago, but wasn't able to get into the picture-taking mood. At least I just got in that mood not long ago and I went to make a set of pictures.

Plus my character had a little update since I really showed her. And she'll probably get some extra tweaks next week. =P

But here's my character once again, with a set of pictures with some new and old outfits.

And first up, the Crimpiacio outfit. I wasn't quite a fan of all the uncovered spots, but turns out that combining the black bodysuit(so glad they added it a few months ago prior to the TD4 update) works really well with the outfit!
Oh and you can also see the main change I've done to my character. I changed the face variant and tweaked it a bit to have a more mature look instead of keeping the baby face.

Another thing I loved that was added last month was the Genesis Weapons Camo. I loved the Clarissa's look, and given I kinda am a fan of Matoi(given I've used her outfits and hairstyles so often), well now with the weapon camo, I guess I can now be 'Aoi-Matoi' as a friend sometimes jokingly called me =P
And accordingly, here's my 'Aoi-Matoi' with all three outfits.

Magia Savior is another of my most favorite outfits in the game. Really loved it, and while I wasn't quite liking the second version that they released, the third variant however caught my eye.
And sometimes when you're taking shots, sometimes just a random occurrence can give you a downright perfect shot, like that one.

The only little gripe I have with this pretty picture is how the rain is sideways. But that's more of an issue of how the game decides to make the rain fall, meaning if you rotate the camera, it rotates the rain as well. >_>

All right, so I've been experimenting with the butt hip slider and am now prepared to publish my findings. Admittedly, it's not what I hoped it would be, but it's still useful for not just one, but two reasons.

Let's talk about its use in controlling body shape. One of the most glaring flaws with the original incarnation of the character creator is that many elements of body and face shaping are hooked together. To some extent, this is good; 99% of us want our arms to be the same size, so it makes sense that arm length affects both arms. But then there are the things you wouldn't necessarily want hooked together, the most obvious example being that you couldn't increase your body mass without inevitably growing a gut.

That issue isn't solved; all the original sliders work the same way now as they did then. What did happen though is that this new slider gives us a way to isolate and mitigate the side effects of the Body Shape and Leg Shape sliders. I'll demonstrate with pictures. Vivica will be my model. Say hi, Viv.

The general archetype I design Vivica around is that of a fuller figured track and field competitor, like a discus or shot put thrower. In contrast, Cherise's archetype is that of a swimmer (plus flotation devices) which is why she's always leaner than Vivica, but this isn't about her. To achieve this look, I obviously favored the wide end of the sliders. This is where the old problem came in. As we all know, the Body Shape slider turns you into a whale when pushed too far past the median, and not even all that far.

The Leg Shape slider suffers a similar issue in which the hips stretch far too wide to naturally accommodate the frame when pushed too far past the median. This becomes especially true when the Body Shape slider is already up against its limits as the other sliders scale with it.

In the past, what I would do is strike a balance by increasing the sliders such that they filled out the figure without distorting the frame. The result of this was Vivica, as seen in Episode 3. A good product for the most part, still short of the ideal.

This is where the Hip Shape slider comes in. As with all body part sliders, it has three functions: the Y axis affects the total size and mass of the hip and thigh region, while the X axis can be used to both shrink/expand the waist in two separate planes. For now, let's focus on the X axis functions and revisit figure 1 with its applications.

I should empathize that this is not meant to be a final product. For the purposes of this experiment, the sliders are pushed to their extremes to more clearly demonstrate their functions and interactions with each other. Here, the effect of the Hip Shape slider was enough to return the waist to a concave shape viewed from the front, and flatten the view from the side. Of course, this leaves us with a new problem, in that the hips are now out of proportion. While we could address this by easing off the Hip Slider and growing the waist, it may be more appealing to instead tackle the problem by affecting the hips instead which brings us to the Y axis function.

Remember, figure 5 is still maxed out on Body Shape's X coordinate, as seen in figure 1. The difference between the two pictures is 100% in the Hip Shape slider. As I said before, all body parts and their related sliders, save for the face and head, scale with the Body Shape slider, e.g, Arm Shape maxed out with maxed out Body Shape is larger than Arm Shape maxed out with minimum Body Shape. The other sliders work with each other in the same manner, though on a more limited scale since the other sliders target localized areas of the body.

So then, let's add in a third factor: the Leg Shape slider. Leg Shape and Hip Shape overlap in function while also having their own unique functions. If you do not like the some of the effects of one slider, you may be able to use the other slider to walk back those effects while maintaining the effects you do like. The Leg Shape slider affects the girth of the legs, but it scales more quickly with the hips, leading to the phenomenon seen in figure 2. Using the Hip Shape slider and the effect it also has on the hips, we can mitigate the Leg Shape's effect on the hips while still increasing the legs' size. Compare figure 6(a) to figure 6(b), and note the difference between maxed Leg Shape with and without using Hip Shape to mitigate.

Now then, I've been speaking in experimental terms. Now I will apply these lessons in actual practice and create Vivica's Episode 4 incarnation(Figure 7). So naturally, I won't be using sliders to their extreme as seen above. The important take away from all this though is that the new slider increases the effective range of the old sliders. I imagine this also works in reverse: you can create characters with a petite frame, but a curvy silhouette, but the character creator already lent itself more kindly in that direction.

As for the second way to use the Hip Slider, don't worry, this will take a lot less time. As we all know, clothes scale with your proportions just like your body does. Also, as we all know, characters that aren't petite have problems with some outfits, notably skirts. Those outfits scale very strongly with the Hip Shape slider and you can easily get them under control using it. Alternatively, you can use the slider to make these outfits' even more flowing and unwieldy if that's your thing. Compare the following. No pictures because you really need to see this in motion to perceive the difference.

That's all I got. If you actually read all of this, I'm sorry it was so long. I just kinda started writing thinking this would be like three paragraphs and, well, you saw what happened. Hopefully this is of some help to you looking at this slider and thinking its worthless. And now, let's close out with a bit of fun trivia: the Hip Slider doesn't impact your character's weight on the weight checker. So figures 1 and 5 weigh the same.

Oh, so it WAS the lighting. I can only associate elven ears + dark skin with warriors. Time to avoid the internet for a while? Maybe.

Been messing with some colour options, and I don't know... I feel like it's got the *potential* to be good, but it's a bit underwhelming at the moment.

Reckon the brown jacket on my black-haired character (Revan) would look better on my other character (Tian)? These are pics I took earlier and didn't really think to swap them around to see, and I'll be away from my PC that has the game on it for a few days so I figured I'd ask. Of course, Tian would need a new jacket if a swap is the go then but I can wait until February's new lot.

Going for street-casual, as much as PSO2 can do that without being weird, but Revan's meant to be sort of grimdark, Tian's sort of more casual.

Really like having two body paint/suits on at once to the point I can now cover both the legs AND the chest. Also adjusted the plaid shirt to be long enough to cover up from all angles (Except the front of course) of any panty shots... even though it looks like black tights anyway when I got this set up the way I did)

Pretty much the same as the skirt one except readjusting the angle/scale/placement of the Red Ring to go with the gloves of the outfit, and moving the plaid shirt to a position that match around my waist than how it hung around the skirt in the previous outfit.

Note: A more clear way of saying that phrase is only an eye for an eye. It's a way of limiting retribution, not encouraging it.
I believe the creator of that rule of thumb would have preferred if no retribution was given at all.

In fact, this isn't so different from the changes I did on my character.

The two main issues there are that the torso is rather small while the head is rather large. Not to mention how she really looks like a stick from the side view.

So I finally went and made the torso bigger, made the head a little bit smaller, and I also increased the hips' on both axis a little bit, and here's the result.

I don't really see any changes aside from the bigger butt, and an unfortunately even thinner waist, which I figure is the side-result of using the waist/butt slider. I think these changes are not worth a makeover pass currently, and would recommend spending some more time adjusting the body. To me, adjustments would include widening her body frame as a whole first and foremost. People only speak of the waist slider as a butt slider, but it is a waist slider before that and can and should be utilized as such.

It's not a real option. It's the nude mod, though it got a bit broken by the new layered clothing option that Episode 4 brought in.

That or the mod works again, except it doesn't have to hide the outer wear since you can remove it.

Not really fashion per say but I used the new ass slider and free ester ticket I got from login to make my girl more athletic without having to do the previous sacrifices of some parts weirdly shaped, was able to make a rounder smoother butt and better sexy looking belly thanks to it. Just chose an outfit that will show the change the most and removed accessories for better view.
(also darkened the hair a bit more)

I tried my best to replicate her and make a preset of her, but I wish you offered a better reference picture. It's okay though, she's really cute and I'm curious if she's from a manga or something?

Thanks. The torso tweak was a necessary change. Mainly because the torso just seemed overall too small, as in, how would a rib change, lungs and all that fit in there?

The picture of Nariya that Neith posted a few days ago in fact glaringly shows the issue I spoke of, since that picture he posted was relatively old, before I did the torso tweaks.

Another very cool set, because i'm using the invisble basewear mod (thanks a lot Sizustar for that;-)), and i gotta admit that innerwear is definitly better than every swimsuit released i've seen :-D

I really liked this one, カジュアルポニー(Casual Pony). It has nice volume to the hair.


It's also great that it's relatively cheap.
