What's so good about Discord anyways?

Asking a legit question since I lately see a bunch of teams working with Discord and don't have any clue as to why, so if someone can enlighten me about it .3.

It is an all in one communication solution. There's built in voice chat and a fairly good messaging system. The voice chat functions very similarly to TS3, mumble and vent.

There are chat rooms/channels, individual volume settings (per speaker), etc. Plus i believe it's free and there is a browser based version if you don't mind not having PTT.

Yeah there's a stand alone program for it as well. Which enables PTT and I think toast notifications? I disabled mine a while back so I'm not sure... Pretty much all of the nice features are mainly program only.

The words that were said to me were
"I am kicking Keilyn"
the reason for the kick was a fear of what was perceived I might do or try in the future.

I never got any word of a Ban from the room.
..and I never knew I was banned because I never tried to return to the room afterwards.

Afterall, there is a difference between a Kick and a Ban.

I was honest in that room by entering under my PSO-2 main character name (which I also use as my screenname here) and Identifying myself as such when asked. I helped out when a player asked about a sword about T-ATK and people thought he was trolling from simply making the mention. However, he said that I was the only one who answered his question and he claimed that he really didn't know the answer and wasn't trolling. I think I might have even linked the page from swiki.

Legal Racism exists due to the fact that such places have a set of rules to be enforced on the public evenly, and they were not enforced equally against me. Please, go ahead and show me this "narrative" you claim I wrote... :)

Discord isn't the best program for community managing, anybody can just make a new email, use the link again with a new discord account and new name and boom. What i saw, was mostly Hatespeech against other Peoples Weapon choices.
#LFP is Dead since Necky came out and all Admins just being there and doing nothing against the inactivity of this Discord Server.
What i also saw, was that a Friend of mine, got banned from a Admin because he just joked about being Banned, and got afterall Banned.
People trying to reviving the Server but it faced alot more Inactivity of all People, because all stuff for helping was unseen and unheared.
I prefering for a PSO2 Discord Server AIDA's Tweaker Server instead of this Server. More Activity and alot more Support and Help from other People.

I know the game isn't really worth talking about gameplay with all of its low skill ceilings, but still...

Nowhere in that post did I say I was upset over people soloing content. I'll question it though seeing that so many better single-player games that actually focus on single player exist out there. It's just people obsessing over something that undermines the game's true nature, and while it gets you some accolades it's just futile at the end of the day.

Cooperation is not a "true nature" of the game. It's an important aspect, sure, but the fact that you can do things solo means that it's not the integral part of the game. Saying that you should only play PSO2 with other people is like saying that you should only play Sonic 3 (& Knuckles) with 2 people, because you can choose to complete it with Sonic & Tails.

PSO2 is a hack & slash RPG with unique combat system. It gives you the tools and objectives, and you are free to do whatever the hell you want. You don't need to run MPA-based content solo yourself, you don't even need to watch those damn videos. Let people have fun.

Afterthoughts. The game goes out of its way to make it a mediocre experience.

Huum it's only natural that clearing MPA-based content solo or single party will take more time/have drawbacks, because they weren't designed with solo play in mind. However, some people just want more challenge, because it's the way they find it fun. Also Solo XQ are mostly fine to me, I don't see what's wrong or unsatisfying with it, except that they are very limited since we only have 20 stages atm.

Big issue with MPA content is that a good deal of it is outdated : with power creep, MPAs are now simply too powerful, so the original thrill most old EQs used to give is lost ( I miss you, Loser that wasn't stunlocked to death in every possible brutal way). Naturally,after reaching a certain point in experience/gear people will either stray away from the game, or try to emulate said thrill/challenge by changing the conditions, and going single party/solo is one of the easiest ways to go about it. While I agree with some of the things you say, you should still be more understanding when it comes ot other people's definition of fun. If they'd rather do that than play something else and are happy with that, why should you even care in the first place, it doesn't impact you or anyone else after all.

Also, and this is just opinion mind you, class balance in PSO2 is not so bad as people make it out to be. not saying it's perfect,as some classes are obviously a lot stronger than others (looking at you, FO and FI), but pretty much every class can have a relevant role and perform at least decently in most of the games' content. Besides, it's not as if we had content so awfully difficult that not having a FO in your mpa would mean no clear or something.

Not "very important" for the sake of this argument. They have different weight, yes, but they are still both radical. And they radically go against "true nature" of gaming: it's a waste of time for sake of entertainment. Different people are entertained by different things, which is why there are so many game different games and genres. But even within one game people find different things to like it for, and they wouldn't play other, supposedly "better" games, because those games aren't better at those specific things.

I like occasionally getting in parties with people, discussing things and planning strategies while we play together, because it brings variety to the game. Getting better gear means I will be able to work out new skills and find new ways of entertainment when doing things solo, because it brings variety to the game. There's no variety in running same quests over and over with 11 people you don't know, because it often boils down to hitting shit till it dies, which for me has no purpose. Surely, it's "rewarding", but when your gear is all complete and there's nothing to hunt, you'll look for something fresh, and the fun you get from that freshness is a reward in itself. This is what's good about mods, and it's why concept of DLC was invented.

You'll say: "This game is not for you", and I'll say "Bullshit". I like how simple yet diverse combat is, I like the art style and atmosphere, the music is great and I LOVE my characters. Occasional chatter is great too. If I only cared about multiplayer aspect of the game, I'd play WoW, but point-and-click bullshit isn't fun. If I only cared about combat technicalities, I'd play Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden; while those games are great, they have different control scheme and they do not have enough content to keep me entertained for thousands of hours.

Finally, here are some examples of arguments I've seen. They've been talking about different games in different contexts, but the general idea is like this:

Quake 3 has a standard set of mechanics and a bunch of default maps. Everyone should play those; all those mods and thousands of maps suck, because id Software didn't intend the game to be that way

Minecraft is about collecting materials and surviving zombies. It's not about building cities and simulating computers

DMD is supposed to be hard! Being able to kill Credo in 1 minute (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3gZCuMBR2U)is not fun, that's not how it should be!

That's killjoy mentality. It's real, and it's cancerous. Gaming is the most open and diverse form of entertainment, and these people miss the point.

just don't tell me that cooperating with other players in a game that, for the past four years, has been a co-op only multiplayer online action rpg is not a core mechanic

see, when one person hits a monster really hard, then a second person starts hitting that same monster, they are cooperating. they are working towards a similar goal - killing a monster. when a support casts buffs they are cooperating towards the same goal of killing a monster

I guess I can jump into the grouping vs soloing argument.

I used to believe that PSO-2 is not "affected" by people soloing. However, I remember how the Guild Wars 1 community said the same thing, as well as communities in Lineage 2 and many other games. What happened in these games were that developers had to make a patching choice.... To make a game more soloable which would mean that many players instead of grouping would simply pick the soloing classes and take their chances with those classes, ending in crippling the grouping players since it would mean

"Why group when I can raise an ultra-powerful soloing class?" and it would make the grouping players out to be like newbs since when a single class combination or configuration can do more than an entire party, then yes... Either the game is broken to that class or something is seriously wrong with the party in question.

In PSO-2 the patches encouraged Soloing, which meant that they discouraged grouping and hence, the community took the effect of that choice made by SEGA, and it manifested itself in each time there was an MPA that required a group. This is where 99% of complaints appear....In Guild Wars 1, the developers took the middle ground and patched to create more stable Henchmen and Heroes. This allowed a singleplayer to Solo an Area with Seven NPCs, but it was never faster per capita than decent groups of players who liked playing together and knew how to play.

Then there were few MMOs out there in which the developers decided to patch out the soloing concept of classes in instances and dungeons due to the fact that they felt it was one player getting away with the loot and intention that were to be the rewards for groups playing together. The reaction to these were soloing players who actually were trying a lot harder and were making Duoing Combinations in rounds and maps. Still a group of two. By putting elements in the dungeons that destroyed pure soloing, it made it harder for a single player to get away with soloing a map. In short, it encouraged grouping.

My point is that I've played enough games where I've seen patches side soloing or grouping.

I liked games that did reach the middle ground and put a Soloing Version of a Dungeon, A Normal Mode Party version and a super hard expert mode or elite mode to a dungeon. This allowed everyone to run the areas and have rewards scale accordingly.

The more interesting thing is that regardless which side one takes (Soloing or grouping), in the end regardless the game I've played it has always come down to gear. Many arguments dealing with Gear, Skills and Synergy.
