Well, I'm not missing out on anything. The amount of shaders put on top of low-polygonal models and low-res textures really makes it fall into uncanny valley. I don't think I'm going to use it even for dedicated screenshot sessions - tweaking things through Nvidia Inspector would give results that are more... consistent within the game's aesthetics.

I got 52192 on fully maxed out settings. I also ran the test with tier 5 graphics just to see how much of an impact tier 6 had over 5. The results are kinda weird IMO.

On tier 5 graphics, I got 54895.

So as you can see not a huge improvement over my tier 6 graphics score of 52192.

The does does look much nicer with it's new "ENB" though :D I like it. I can't wait to play it on the main game.

For those wondering my rig specs, 4790K OCed 4.6 HyperX Savage 16gig 2400mhz ram, GTX980ti.

This of course was done in 1080p.

So besides Ambient Occlusion what other graphical settings are there in the benchmark?
There seem to be few new graphic options added, few of them are still turned off even if you're using level 6 slider from launcher.
Since the in-game option are all japanese, i just change it from config file.

- color tone curve
- camera light
- ambient occlusion
- auto resolution
- vignetting
- edge light

You have to activate some of them manually from in-game setting or modifying user file.

Yeah I got similar results with using Inspector on FX-8350 and a GTX 970. FPS dropped to a lowest of 53 and averaging at around 70-80 and gave a score of 7.5k. Without Inspector I got a fair bit under 12k and FPS was around 95-107 for the most part iirc. I'll mess around with those settings that wefwq mentioned and see how much more it hurts my score... In any case, I'll be looking to upgrade my CPU to the AMD Zen line of CPUs that come out at the end of this year. If it's not promising enough... Then hopping on an i5.

Hmm, can't say that I'm totally impressed with the update yet. While there are improvements many of them are very subtle.

It is nice to actually see a glow on the swords. I was unimpressed that the boots, wand and casts did not seem to have the same glow on them.

Some screenshots and quality comparisons between in game settings and radeon drivers to come after I get some sleep.

The contrast and color changes in Tier 6 aren't really my thing. I may end up sticking with Tier 5, or tweak the default settings a lot (especially that color tone curve option).

If anyone's interested, I took some comparison shots, though I didn't change my normal in-game settings (everything on except blur and bloom IIRC) if that matters in the benchmark.

NVIDIA Inspector, "Create new profile", add the Character Creator to that profile, change SLI settings to your needs. You might need to copy SLI compatibility bits from PSO2.

[spoiler-box]http://i.imgur.com/N5oPsgk.jpg[/spoiler-box]

Jesus christ, those temps. I mean, I guess vsync wasn't enabled for benchmarking purposes (averaged 100fps), but god damn. Even GTA5 with mixed mid to high settings doesn't do that and looks way, WAY better.

Also, don't mind the second GTX760 listed. The two used to be used in SLI config but that got unstable recently, and I'm thinking about tearing the second card out entirely for better airflow, temperatures and energy savings.

Hi pal.
[spoiler-box]http://puu.sh/npQ9G.jpg[/spoiler-box]
Been tinkering with bunch of "effects" though most of them does not really increase performance, aside from AO but there's no way i'm turning off AO since it was the main attraction of the new shader.
I think it's the new shader itself that eating GPU.
Can't go higher than this score without making it as "ugly" as the old shader looks.

Sticking with old shader.

[SPOILER-BOX]http://i.imgur.com/Wn5XBzV.jpg[/SPOILER-BOX]

However I also decided to see what impact on the performance my NVIDIA Inspector settings would have, and here's the result.

[SPOILER-BOX]http://i.imgur.com/VIfNHQQ.jpg[/SPOILER-BOX]

Pretty damn good. Overall in terms of FPS, it seems I could stick around 140 easily with the normal Tier 6 settings, and around 120-110 FPS with NVIDIA Inspector added into the mix.

Pretty decent I have to say. And maybe I might even be able to lower the Inspector settings further, depending on how it goes. And here's some screenshots comparisons as well.

Also I'm having problems with SGSSAA at tier 6.

Why are the 970 scores varying so greatly?
Are you guys overclocking or something?

CPU bottlenecking I guess. Really need to upgrade sometime soon. And my 970 is just +100 on core/memory atm and haven't bothered pushing it any further.

Without any custom inspector settings:

[SPOILER-BOX]http://www.celestialdrive.com/images/PSO2/pso20160229_115127_000.jpg[/SPOILER-BOX]

151-232 fps at 1920x1080, fullscreen (not virtual fullscreen - virtual fullscreen was ~50 fps slower and scored 12,000 points less!).

As for 970 variance... see above note about virtual fullscreen murdering it (not that 100-160 fps is bad...), and the guy with the 43k score has an i7-4770K, I'm sure that has something to do with it. My 970 is factory overclocked quite a bit, but I haven't pushed it past that.

Are you sure you're using tier 6 in those shots? It looks like those shots were taken with tier 5, it's lacking the shadows caused by the hair, for example.

Also I'm having problems with SGSSAA at tier 6.
Shot taken at tier 6 with 4x SGSSAA through Nvidia Inspector using the 0x004010C5 flag, there's aliasing problems with the character hair when using tier 6.
[spoiler-box]http://i.imgur.com/STYBAI9.jpg[/spoiler-box]

Mmm, maybe you're right. I'm not even sure how to set the creator to Tier 6 graphics, so it might be one reason. >_<

Especially when I've looked at some of the other screenshots and they seem to look better than mine.

As for your SGSSAA issues, it's probably due to the lighting in the character creator. It might be the same kind of issue that people often have with lines in their hair when in the salon when they use Inspector.

4209 with Tier 6 at 1920x1080 fullscreen, 23813 with 1280x720 windowed. My rig is fine, I just could do with upgrading my GPU sooner or later (GTX 660 and a 4790K 4.0GHz CPU). I only bought the 660 as a stop-gap card until I could get a better one so I'm pretty happy with the result. Also have a PS4 for Tier 6 if the PC does struggle at all.

In the benchmark launcher options (2nd button in the launcher), pretty much have to set simple draw settings to 6, and to save the settings have to click the last button at the bottom and then the first button to save the settings.
Can also manually edit specific settings in user_benchmark_ep4.pso2, which is located in documents\SEGA\PHANTASYSTARONLINE2.

About SGSSAA, I don't have issues like this with tier 5, only with tier 6. The issues also happen during the benchmark itself with tier 6.
Another shot with 4x SGSSAA that shows the issues better, in the tokyo scenery. My guess about the reason for the issue is the implementation of the hair casting a shadow in the character feature.
[spoiler-box]http://i.imgur.com/GcRA5Yp.jpg[/spoiler-box]

Unrelated, took another comparison shot for fun, turning off some of the new settings and such.

What is being compared in each shot (all of them have blur off, all tier 6 shots have vignette off):
1- Tier 5.
2- Tier 6, color tone curve off.
3- Tier 6, color tone curve, bloom, edge light off.
4- Tier 6.
5- Tier 6, bloom, edge light off.

[spoiler-box]http://abload.de/img/light1f7sbm.jpg[/spoiler-box]

I'm finding the 5th one to be kinda the sweet spot when it comes to tier 6, though still a bit too bright for my taste, turning off edge light and bloom helps a tiny little bit.
Edge light removes the bright outlines around the char, for me it results in an improvement everywhere, but especially in the char's face outlines (more noticeable in the Tokyo shots).
Bloom only removes the bright shine (tokyo shots) from the white part of the char's shirt, tiny difference but I just find that shine unnecessary.

It's a great difference from Tier 5 to Tier 6 (drops from 100+ FPS to around 70/80 FPS) but overhall plays nice and without issue on both Tiers.

My understanding is there's no point getting an uber video card if the CPU, mobo and ram can't handle it.
Also aim for a card that matches what you want to do. As in, don't get a card designed for 4k if you're only going to use up to 720p.

My sister also has a HD6850 (which was my old card before I upgraded to a GTX960), though it's being completely limited by her CPU (which is just an old Core 2 Duo), so she only gets like 3k~4k range in the tier 6 benchmark at 1440x900.

The benchmark seems to be more CPU dependent than GPU dependent, but still an HD6850 is pretty outdated.
It'd be enough for lower resolutions, 720p~900p range, but for 1080p I don't think I would expect much (maybe something like 3k range? no idea).
The creator of the other topic about the benchmark scores got a score of 4224 at 1920x1200 with an HD5870 and a Core i7 920 (according to SEGA though, 2k~5k range is still considered an acceptable score), no idea how much of a limiting factor the CPU could be in that case (an i7 920 was pretty good when it was released, but current CPUs are considerably better), but, a HD5870 is more powerful than a HD6850...

May as well ask, what's your current CPU and what score do you currently get? ^^;

With 8xMSAA, 8xSGSSAA, I got 30-50fps.

With 4xMSAA, 4xSGSSAA, I got 60-100fps, and while I did have a little bit of aliasing in characters' hair, it still looked much better on the whole than PSO2's antialiasing. This is probably where I will run it with Tier 6 when it is available in game.

That said. I showed my no-Inspector Tier 6 Katarin screenshots (the ones I posted earlier in the thread) to someone who has seen lots of previous screenshots of the character and her response was "holy crap details".

I feel like tier 6 is a definite improvement, though I really wish we could see it in a field without the massive washout lighting of Tokyo.

I'm messing around with it.
The hairline glitching seems to be caused by the Ambient Occlusion compatibility bit 0x0000034.

I can't find an AA compatibility bit that doesn't kill the shadows.
Essentially, it's a choice between crap AA and shadows.
Has anyone figured that the right AA compatibility bit to get both good AA and shadows?
I don't even care about SGSSAA, just MSAA is enough.

I'm messing around with it.
The hairline glitching seems to be caused by the Ambient Occlusion compatibility bit 0x0000034.
He meant this issue, which is caused by SGSSAA.

I can't find an AA compatibility bit that doesn't kill the shadows.
Essentially, it's a choice between crap AA and shadows.
Has anyone figured that the right AA compatibility bit to get both good AA and shadows?
I don't even care about SGSSAA, just MSAA is enough.
So far no luck at all.
0x004010C5 SGSSAA causes the issues with the hair in the pic above.
Checked out lavendy's flags posted here:

0x004112C1 MSAA causes aliased black outlines.
0x004110C5 SSAA and 0x004F12C1 combined sampling break shadows.

Scored around 11.000 with my gaming laptop but I still have to update my drivers.

Well I guess 11k means it will never run below 60fps!

Finally got around to testing mine:

My CPU is OC'd to 4.3ghz tho. Max graphics settings I believe. Was averaging 130 FPS give or take. Glad I don't need to upgrade.

Damn PS4 could use some work tho geeze.

I already tried Lavendy's, and a bunch of random stuff for other games.
Game looks like ass without decent AA. That floor at the start of the demo is the worst thing ever.

So, after realizing that my first tests of the character creator were on Tier 5 settings and not Tier 6, I went back to to test out the character creator once more with Tier 6 settings.

I noticed that my Inspector settings also caused the same hair issue that has been made note of, however when I look at the quality of Tier 6 with and without Inspector boosting, the difference is fairly minimal to me. Tier 6 on its own might be more than enough now.

But the very interesting thing that happened is when I tried the benchmark with Tier 6 quality on its own, no Inspector boosting.

Last time I tested it with Tier 5, I got a result around 26k.

This time?

Rather curious, but also interesting that I ended up getting a better result with Tier 6 compared to Tier 5. Maybe it could be that the Tier 6 graphic settings work better with my current GPU compared to Tier 5.

Still, it's a plus in my book for me. :)

click the options button on the launcher (the second button) and slide the first slider all the way to the right. it will say "6" above it.

I would also switch over to the video settings, crank them to max and set it to virtual windowed mode (that is, if you play virtual window mode, which imo is the best method)

That's odd. Is the 30K score without the nvidia inspector settings?

I ask because I also have a 980ti and a 4790K (which is basically a 4770K what you have) and I get a score of 52K. That's almost double of what you are getting. I feel that something is making you lose performance.

Thank you a lot! Then yes, I got a 11.000 with Tier6 all maxed settings on my laptop.

11.000 means I won't have any problem right?

Hard to say without experiencing it first but if I can get 80-120 with a score of about 14,750 that means you should probably get 60-90 with 11,000

A friend is saying the benchmark roasts their CPU, pushing it from 50 celsius idle to 70 celsius.
Mine only goes up by 6 degrees.

Is that a CPU fan problem or something?
They had some problems with the thermal paste wearing out before.

Tolerable for stage 6. I think the lowest I dipped was 53, but it averaged from 65 ~ 83 more or less.

I might stick with stage 5 instead.

I saw some other screenshots of other people that also have similar stats to me, but one thing I noticed was different is that they had Windows 10 instead of Windows 7, and they had better score.

It could be that Windows 10 does have some improvements that help PSO2's performance. Of course if you do have Windows 10 then I guess that theory is true. If not, then I'm not sure what could be making me lose performance.

Tier 6, didn't try anything else.
Framerate was 100-114.
I haven't really paid attention but does this really address the main issue of the graphics, low res textures?

Edit: did check tier 5 now, twice the score and fps peaked at 215. But pointless cause my pc can handle tier easily.

My CPU has been doing the same thing, however, my tower is also rather old. It may be time for me to change out the paste, but I've been having my tower idling at 60C. Recording stuff suddenly got really difficult. I don't wanna change out the paste until I get an aftermarket cooler for it, though.

I'm on windows 8.1 not touching windows 10 ^-^

I'm very curious as to why you don't get similar results as me with the same card. Is your CPU overclocked? My 4790K is at 4.6. Also what kinda 980ti do you have? I have the EVGA superclocked one with the custom cooler on it not the stock one.

I've seen screenshots of another dude with a similar rig to mine but he has a 970 and he gets 40K+ and that's with a 970.

Lastly in the old benchmark (the one that has Kuna in it) I would get a slightly bigger score if I was on windows 7 vs 8.1.

If this new one is anything like it then I would assume that windows 7 still gives you a slightly better score. However i'm not gonna format into windows 7 just to test this =P

A few things to remember :)

1) Windows 10 allows for Direct X 12
2) The 980 GTX card was one of the first cards that was Native Direct X 12, and not "Direct X 12 compatible"

In short, owning a 980 GTX and not running Windows 10 is a bad move.

3) I own 980 GTX Superclocked too because I love the 3 - 5 year extended warranty that EVGA gives you for buying one of their products FOR FREE as opposed to the shitty warranties that exist on other cards. One does not simply purchase high end video cards without having the backing of a good and reliable warranty.

4) Synthetic Numbers are meaningless and a marketting ploy when it comes to gaming:

40 - 100K is irrelevant

What is relevant is your Minimum, Average, and Maximum Framerate possible while running a game WITHIN the game's allowing maximum framerate for smooth animation.

5) Bigger Scores came in Windows 7 because Windows 8 demanded more resources and was made with a different idea in mind. Even so, the score was slightly better...

I know the answer to the following Question, but I want to see if anyone here also knows it.....

"Does anyone here know if the Tier-6 graphics remain completely in Direct X9 or do they break into areas that are handled better by Direct X 11 or 12?"

Thanks.
Friend is using an i7-950, I think? That's pretty old now.
They said that only SFV and the PSO2 benchmark raises their CPU temps.
Also checked for any automatic overclocking, and it didn't seem to be enabled.

I couldn't run SFV well. I haven't bought it purely because I don't think my processor can handle it. I'm pretty sure that my CPU isn't being overclocked either. This problem only came up recently, so I'm starting to suspect the PSO2 benchmark a bit more.

Whole thing looks a bit wonky to me. Granted the benchmark shows that my GPU can only run it at 40-70fps.

I'll just wait until it is actually in the game since I run Tier 5 with max in-game settings and generally don't drop frames.

My CPU isn't overclocked, and to be honest, I have no idea how to do so, plus I don't think I want to try overclocking it.

I've tried doing small overclocking on my previous graphics card, which was a GTX 970, and the results weren't impressive, not to mention that I'm pretty sure it wrecked the card.

And it was an EVGA GTX 970. What was even more ridiculous is that when I got a replacement GTX 970(since I was still on warranty), the replacement one was buggy and had problems too, and I had to go get another replacement. It kinda made me give up on EVGA and I just handed over the new GPU to my brother for his computer, and I went to buy a GTX 980 Ti from Gigabyte instead. Haven't tried overclocking it either, and I'm fine anyway, since it's already a monster of a graphic card at the moment.

And Keilyn, very interesting thing you mentioned about Windows 10. I had been constantly delaying my update from Windows 7 to Windows 10 for quite a while, but perhaps it might convince me to do it soon.
