This stuff is NOT condoned by SEGA. I would avoid making your character names and player ID's known when posting related pictures on big JP sites. Someone I know got a 24 hour temp ban for an outfit swap. Posting here and Youtube is probably fine with IDs omitted, but this is just an FYI to everyone. I'm not responsible if something does happen for whatever reason.


Take care to hide your ID if you post media publicly. Sega is NOT actively hunting people. If you keep your ID out of mod related media, you should be fine.

Welcome to the PSO2 Mod thread! The primary focus of this thread will be to create a place to store mods people have made for this game and give others ready access to them. For more swift questions and answers, please refer to the discord server: https://discord.gg/Kds4V4Z
I don't actively watch PSOW these days, but if I see something there I'll probably respond within a day at least.

**Getting Started**
You can now use the mod loader in this video which allows more things and the ability to toggle mods on and off while the game is on!

So first things first. You'll need an alternative launcher to the official one to start the game. The game will replace your mod files otherwise. Now tweaker works fine if you like that, but for those who don't like that idea...

Make a .bat file in your pso2_bin folder and copy the above into it. Assuming you want this to look legitimate, right click it and make a shortcut to it, copy said shortcut to your desktop, and do something like the picture below to give yourself the normal game icon.

**FAQ**

Q. Is this compatible with the English patch?
A. Yes! If something overwrites some text, let me know, but test it with the English patch alone to make sure that it's not just the patch missing some text to start with.

Q. Will these work with EP4's new graphics setting?
A.[S] I honestly don't know. At the very least, some mods may have to be upgraded to take advantage of it. I really have no idea as of right now though.
Everything works more or less with ep4 overall. Of course, lighting changes can affect some things a bit.

Q. Are these compatible with other regions of PSO2?
A. These mods are for JP PSO2 for now, but if there's enough interest than I could add a section for SEA PSO2 mods and what not.

Q. Will these permanently alter my game?
A. The game checks with the official launcher for file irregularities at launch. This is why we need to launch the game without it. Thankfully, this also means that you should be safe from having to reinstall the game entirely if you ever do something dumb.

Q. Will I get in trouble for using this?
A. It's pretty rare that you would, but you shouldn't be found out just for playing with modified files. As long as you don't show off your names or player id when sharing screenshots or vids, you're pretty much guaranteed to be fine. Even then, on most English sites it's probably okay anyways.

Q. These don't work for my game D:
A. Be sure you've downloaded the checksum file provided above and applied it. The game will refuse to load mods without it. In addition, the game uses some files redundantly and so some area mods may not apply in all places the game can use them. This can potentially be corrected, but be aware of this for cutscenes and the like.

Q. Can I make my own mods?

Q. Can I make and submit a music mod?
A. Yes, but it's not a topic I've looked into and so I can't offer any advice for getting started with them to begin with. However as I recall, you do not need .ICE file tools to deal with these. There is a guide to working with them floating around somewhere if I recall correctly though.

Q. I want to make a lewd dakimakura pillow camo! Can I submit that here? ;3

Q. X mod(s) suck!
A. People make these in their spare time. Some, including me, *may* feel like improving them to fix issues and such at a point, if possible, but other things go on in our lives.

A. This is not a question. Regardless, these only affect the people using them and do not alter gameplay. You're perfectly welcome to go about your day playing the way you like :^)

No one will do it for you, but you can always ask for help.
Since tools will become available as op said, it will be easy to track and modify any file. For the easiest modding ( which is texture edit) you can use the simplest tool like paint.net just make sure to maintain original format.
You also want to download Noesis and use the plug in to view specific models. Be warned that some models will not open.

Sounds good. As for nude mod and the like, I'll direct any such requests to PM/offsite discussion. No reason to link it here.

It's a little more difficult than you might think to replace that sound file since trial and error is about the only way to test it. And there's no guarantee that the file containing it can be repacked since the program I fails on certain files.

As for the guide, I'll give writing that up a go in the near future. I might modify the actual program a little so that it properly supports English windows locale before hand though. Currently, you need a JP windows locale and it's not the funnest thing to boot up a VM every time to change things. I'm somewhat debating releasing public links until after the Ep4 graphical update is live only because that would be their biggest time to change the formats, but we'll see how that goes. That aside, I don't think you'd want to be booting VMware or something like what I'm doing to compile these at the moment.

Always sorta kinda been interested in a HD mod - maybe if nobody's already got one going, when the guides are released we could make something of a community project out of it. It'd be a very large job, after all.

I always wanted to remove the back of the wedding dress skirt, but I already sold most of mine, so... oh well.

Something else I'd do is fix the layerwear body skin texture so that dark skin characters don't have that ugly artifacting green patch.

There are currently just no UI mods. I put in the field for later.

And again, I'll probably work on a guide later. The program used is not in a lovely state without a JP OS.

I've tried to do this myself. I extracted all the files and spent quite a damn long time and lost hope lol. I do agree though, it'll probably be my fave outfit if that back part was gone.

And that Harkotan den thing looks so cooooooooooooooooool.

Looking forward to the release of the unpacker and repacker. I've been wanting to remove parts from certain costumes for the longest time. What's the model format? And what program would be needed for modifying the game models themselves?

I'd love to do some texture mods but lack the drive to figure out how to safely edit and repack them myself. This guide coming soon™ will make my dreams a reality.

So here's the deal with that right now. There has been one that's sparingly been passed around on 2chan for a fair bit of time. This one does NOT perfectly repack everything in the game and some things very clearly crash upon repacking right now. I say right now because the source is included, although I personally don't have the knowledge of the .ICE format and its contents to resolve this right now. There IS a more perfect tool that those among the English patch group have access to, but it's private and sadly I can't offer to compile things requiring it for you at the moment because I don't have access to it either. There are things in the game files that can really mess with the game in a bad way due to how SEGA designed it and I believe this is the main reasoning to keeping it private.

The second thing is that as it exists right now, the ICE repacker doesn't work well on English Windows locale. Win10 doesn't even let you change this really (no, the third party thing that let's you do this doesn't work for this) and so I'm forced to use a virtual machine to use the program for the moment. I'd like to change this since I don't believe it'd be beyond my abilities, but if you'd like me to release it in this state I can. I will warn you that it's somewhat user unfriendly.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't have worries about putting the repacker out there more for us before a big update like the graphical one coming soon, but I feel like in the end, similarly to game exploits like the infinite Falz EQs from early in the game, this would get out anyways eventually.

Edit: Also, there's the matter of writing a guide for it all. I want to try to write something fairly explanatory so you wouldn't have to know too much technical knowledge to do it. It will probably be lengthy, but it wouldn't be difficult, per say. Once it's set up, it's pretty easy to do and test real time. Swapping files while the game is running DOES in fact work, interestingly.


I've tried to do this myself. I extracted all the files and spent quite a damn long time and lost hope lol. I do agree though, it'll probably be my fave outfit if that back part was gone.

And that Harkotan den thing looks so cooooooooooooooooool.

Yeah, I think a lot of people have wanted to do that with the wedding dress. I'm not entirely sure if this program will work for it, but I might be able to give that a look at a point.


The best part:
Never having to buy costumes again.

The worst part:
Rappy Skins galore.

Can't wait to mod some areas. Make a Tundra pack for the entire game.

Some outfits don't appear to swap correctly at the moment, but I'll need to research it more. Rappies at the very least seem to mod pretty well although you can blame Silver for them so far. I've been mainly looking into area and weapon mods myself, in all honesty. That said, making a Tundra pack is probably very possible.

this is interesting.

if i do any mods it'll be just improvements over the original textures.

making better base skin textures to define toes better and overall better shading, better beards, body hair, and stuff.

this shoulc be used to make the game better. imo.

i have windows 10, and litle time, if someone could extract the base skin textures so i can look at them, need to see if the textures work like they did on psobb.

could try making them better. fix the dam toes at least.

As an update to everyone, a silver king found a method for repacking that works fine on normal win10 and english locales. I've edited the main post in the other thread to reflect that!

You might need to set the .exe to run as admin, not sure. For me, I definitely don't on Win10, but I've not used Win8. I will say that it takes a moment to come up sometimes though so don't close it early.

The actual .bat is in the game folder though, right? As long as it's in the same place, it should work I would think...

Oh yes, that's exactly where that stuff is from, actually. I took a lot of creative liberties with the texturing, but there's only so much like that it can look anyways. I'm aware mine is a bit messy, but I made that at the time thinking there wouldn't be any hope for recompiling it to be honest.

Currently, I don't think we can get those back into the game is the issue. The one tool we do have to convert them has issues too.

A friend of mine found the male ones, but they don't seem to repack correctly with this tool sadly. I think there's more files that relate to it, but this is the name of one: 11d356e64266f0770cf0886e57b0ed54

Edit2: About the models, iirc you may have to use the .aqo models deicer gives and not the .aqp output from the repacker. I haven't tested things out with .aqp's though since I didn't have the repacker last time I tried messing with that.

Was in the same folder, didnt work for some reason. I did manage to get it to work via a slightly different method though, so thanks for your help~

I had no idea to be honest. It wasn't something I'd messed with.


Can't most outfits be recolored? I know we saw that through the recent color glitch. ... ... ... ... So would swapping stuff around like this make that same result possible after they fix the color glitch? <_< Like... swapping an original Yoshino and a green sexy santa dress to get a green Yoshino. (Using two static-colored outfits as an example question here because recolor tickets are prohibitively expensive these days)

I haven't had time to sit down and read and attempt any of this, but I have an idea of a mod I'd like to do and post here if I can figure it all out. If I turn out to be too dumb to do it, I'll ask if anyone else can get it working. It's definitely worth looking into since it falls into the "cut content" category.....

Theoretically, as long as they can swap in correctly, than yes. It depends on how the material is set up. Things that can have their colors changed have specific textures set up to allow that in this game.

Try separating your files and not doing them all at once. I was told currently these should be the only ones to actually crash it right now, but it's not impossible I overlooked something. It's also possible that just doing such a large amount of files at once was the issue. Generally, I separate the files out a little at least.

Still, there are only around 40k game files to begin with iirc so it sounds like you're getting through most of them.

I agree with you there. Separating them helped me as well and I managed to extract everything with no issues.

I noticed when looking though the Episode 3 art-book, Viel Matoi seems to have a Wand and I think a Rifle as her weapons during the battle. Is it possible that those weapons are in the game's files, and can maybe be used as a weapon camo reskin?

I didn't release them because the one in the second hand doesn't work quite right.

I don't think it could easily be removed, sadly. It would involve editing the animations or model, neither of which would probably be simple.

I would think music swapping is possible, but that's stored differently from most of this. I wouldn't know where to look.

Making it appear night all the time is probably doable though, depending on how you wanted to go about it. I'm not sure it would look perfect though since it would probably involve swapping in another area's background.

As for the rifle, I've talked with asqvenkl a bit on the repacker in general and one of it's main flaws is that a lot of times the program can drop encryption keys, among other things probably, when it repacks. He seems to be interested in eventually fixing that issue though whether he would publicly release such a revision is another question. Right now, I think he's trying to port it from c++ to c# anyways.

You need to overwrite them everytime it updates since pso2 will scan all it's files when it does so. However, you shouldn't need a new version of the mod very often. No idea how setting 6 will change that yet but we'll see.

A friend of mine does have a baseline mod manager in the works, but I'd need to ask them if they'd be alright with me sharing that as it is. If that happens, then you wouldn't need to always replace them either.

Sorry for bothering you with a request, but can you make a simple darker default night sky for Tokyo? I noticed how the ambient color changed drasticaly in your screenshot, so I wanted to see if there was a better way to fix the nights being so bright, without needing a special shader for ReShade to compensate for it (which would cause glitching).

My desktop is busted at the moment, so all I have is my laptop, which, according to your guide, is probably not up to the task (a 2.2ghz dual-core with a pretty bloated disk).

It's not that you couldn't, but it would probably take a while is the thing. You'd be letting it sit doing pretty much just that for a bit.

As far as changing default tokyo sky, I don't think I can. The game's screenshot dumps are just darker by default for whatever reason. The thing is with the skies where anything interesting happens at the moment is that they tend to not compile back well.

If you want to just try by yourself, 4d5b03d4c7c93f3b71d1e5bde6e1963f and c3c435792a64002242aec1f74b9af6ff are Tokyo's skies (not sure which one is night atm, but it won't have a sun texture). See if those will repack properly and, if so, you might be able to do that. If not, you might be able to repack stuff still, but you may have to play with it a lot. I know Silver managed to get some of the skies to work after removing some files and compiling. Some things will probably not work correctly with any modification (certain visual weather effects etc.) like that to them of course.

I'll be out for a while, but I can check back here later if you have any questions about that.

It's not that you couldn't, but it would probably take a while is the thing. You'd be letting it sit doing pretty much just that for a bit.

As far as changing default tokyo sky, I don't think I can. The game's screenshot dumps are just darker by default for whatever reason. The thing is with the skies where anything interesting happens at the moment is that they tend to not compile back well.

That's because certain costumes won't work.

You basically choose the desired costume to mod over, and choose the costume you want. You take the mod over's file names, and switch the wanted costumes's texture/file names of those to the mod over's. You repack, and in theory it should work.

There's a few issues with it, but after some better messing around, I think either I or Tari might make a better guide at how to do it.

Wait, are you being facetious or no? So far as I've seen, the different effects with weather and time of day don't seem to be bothered if they don't show up visually. I'd be interested to hear if they do actually mess with some places though...

The issue with the outfit you chose is that the outfit doesn't exist on the market. We try to choose cheap and available outfits for use so that it's not an exclusive thing.

I originally had the plan to choose outfits that were similar in design to the originals, which is why Heretic Lord was my initial choice when creating the Persona mod. Having identical male/female variants was also a huge plus.

With that said, I can certainly see the issue with the current costumes being too expensive to recolor. The all-race versions will have colors that are as close as possible to the originals, and should hopefully be a good deal cheaper.

If there's still a demand for a default set once I'm done getting all the falz costumes done on my chosen outfits, I could certainly look into getting that done. Just keep in mind that for most, unless you happened to choose a black one when creating your char/support partner, you'd have to either buy one on the market or use a recolor ticket anyways. ^^;

But apparently Dealer Suit is borked? Even when I repack the unedited original outfit and try the file out, this happens: (game doesn't crash)

Potentially, but the desync with the server is probably asking for trouble most of the time so I wouldn't link that kind of thing here. Even with lobby actions, what if someone tries to copy your LA? I don't know how the game would react if your LA finished before theirs and it would probably be visible on the other end.

Yeah, something I should mention is a few files don't get packed quite right back with what we have. I don't know why, but the .dds files get a bit messed up. If you unpack your results, you'll see. Silver had that problem with some of the Rappy suits actually. The game just also doesn't handle some file repacks in general very well for whatever reason, even if it's only a few files like your outfit there. I'm not 100% sure why right now :/

Hardly, actualy. Online games do not really sync animations with servers for multiple reasons, only movement stuff. That part is handled locally. Assuming they do it like in other games, they just send start and end animation events.
As for sync LAs, it's nothing more than getting LA ID and synchornizing it with the timing you see in the client. Worst case scenario, it assumes LA was canceled if it gets cutoff.
But PSO2 gets it even worse on data syncing, because from what I've seen, it allows a player to go offline for almost 2 minutes without rejecting the information it gets afterwards.

Good news and bad news, ladies and gents.

While working on the All Race Elder mod, I encountered an issue with the females.

It doesn't work as nicely.

This is apparently due to the normal idle pose for females, and so far there isn't a way to get past the face clipping through it through even makeover means.

TLDR; might be male only for the time being.

EDIT: Even worse news, I was informed by a friend that all the outfits for the Viel mod have been bought out. Will work on fleshy variant so that we can leave the all race outfits on the market for castsss

Actually, yes you can force female models on to males and vice versa. It's a rather simple task.

Mind you, this really only works males to females, because putting say, the viel outfit on a male forces the default breasts onto them.

Has anyone tried messing with My Room sceneries yet? Or accessory and hairstyle swapping? (For the purpose of using yet more unreleased things like Falz accessories and a certain someone's hairstyle that sega won't cough up... And also giving guys more hairstyles....)

I've just tried with hairstyles, it's a bit difficult to identify by just looking though the d texture... :-P

Yes, it' can be done as the same steps for costume swapping, but some particular hairstyles have issues with wrong lighting... (for example: the freaking expansive Sakuya ponytail サクヤロングポニー)

Red is the specular. Putting pure blue makes it self illuminate like you may want. This is different from glow, but not every shader can.

I might just make a list of what file is what so people can assign BGs where they want. But yeah, it's interesting. On April 1st I told a returning guild mate double's stomach BG showed after story clear. You can swap the actual backgrounds in rooms btw, but be aware not all scenery is included in the BG files alone. So you could have the attack on titan wall with double BG.

Also, swapping male to female will still use the male models so just remember that, though it is possible. You won't have jigglies in your humar suit for sure.

How many are you trying to do at once when it crashes? Some people have reported it crashing with a large amount of file inputs. I split up my files into 8 sets or so when I last extracted everything to lessen the strain.

Hmm, it seemed to be like what I said originally for a few weapons and scenery textures I'd dealt with. Maybe it can vary depending on what it defines? Either way, that is pretty interesting.

Er, I tried doing all of them, which was most likely why. What do you do to choose a certain about of files instead of the whole win32 folder?

I mean, it's just file selection in the end. The easiest way is probably just making some subfolders in your pso2_bin/data/win32, moving the files there temporarily, and then moving them back after you finish the process.

So, a better solution kicked in. Just fill the "m" layer texture with all black, this will remove all the color changing area of the costume, and remain the original look in the "d" texture~

about the model sunk a little in the floor, I guess SEGA did not properly position it because it only used in a cut scene

Not quite sure what the .fltd file's role, but it is usually fits better if the original and swapping costumes have similar file structures.

I mean, it's just file selection in the end. The easiest way is probably just making some subfolders in your pso2_bin/data/win32, moving the files there temporarily, and then moving them back after you finish the process.

I don't know what to tell you, really. If you separated the files that will assuredly crash it to a place other than a subfolder and sufficiently separated the files in general, it should be fine.

I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing wrong. Are you sure there aren't any other files that could make the deicer crash? I swear, I did everything as you said, yet it still crashes.

The "horns" are apart of her hair, and the mask is probably in there as well. As for her fancy wings, I haven't found anything on those yet.

Yeah, more than likely. That's why you have a billion copies of dagans and such in the files. Files with extra junk are used for cutscenes or pretty much anything that's not the main game.

Found an easier way to identify hairs! Noesis, which I think has been mentioned a few times in this thread or the mod guide thread, can open most hairs. No textures, but the models are enough to let you find what you're looking for.

Swapping a layered base wear to an un-layered costume would end up with distorted skin texture, a body paint might help you cover them up

Hum... Noesis, it was doing a great job for DOA5LR modding

Yeah, it's a great tool. It'd be really neat if someone understood that stuff here enough to make an .aqo exporter, but I wouldn't really expect it right now.

this is beautiful!!

Matoi's Innocent Cluster was my my 2nd mod swapping after I learnt how to do it for PSO2, the 1st was her viel outfit, and 3rd was mother cluster's layered costume

These NPC costumes are nice... Although, I guess most of them won't be available to obtain, I still believe Innocent Cluster might be turning into AC scratch with the story line flows to the point when she's out the freezer on EP4...

Oh well, with modding, we don't need to wait

If you're looking for a specific file, try figuring out when that content came out, and sort the files by date to narrow it down.

These mods are client side (ie. you are the only one who sees the modified files), so you run just as much risk as using the English patch (ie. not much unless you are broadcasting that you are using it).

No one can see them other than yourself or people that have the mod.

Unless SEGA's taking screenshots of your character login screen everytime you login in and sending them to their servers (like Vindictus did), but the chances of that being actually real is 0%.

The only case of it happening would be if someone caught you using them from screenshots that show any of your in-game details (Player ID for example).

It's a very low chance. A friend of mine asked me to say something about it on the first post, so I have, but they were posting videos of costumes that weren't out yet with their Player ID and char name on Nicovideo. Even posting stuff on Youtube would probably be fine. Posting on the uploader or 2ch with your info in the picture may not be a 100% awesome idea, but even then it's not a great chance something could happen.

Outfit/accessory/hairstyle swaps might not be fine with SEGA, mainly because it means someone is not spending money on scratches. But besides that, there's no actual reason to get someone banned for changing game visuals to their liking, although it IS against ToS.

I once deliberatly declared war on GG and pulled all kinds of crazy stunts to disable and bypass it (because ReShade, GeDoSaTo and ENB). It's been 3 months now, and still not banned, so I believe Sega doesn't bother unless someone specificly complains.

Well I got the two main ones I wanted working, but I ran into a problem. Swapping Kirika and Jenius made Kirika work perfectly on a male character. Swapping Selvaria and Matoi's unreleased loose hair also works perfectly on a female character. However, no variant is letting Matoi's unreleased loose hair or Selvaria work on a male character. It just keeps crashing.

I don't have a male character, so I've only tested with the benchmark. Selvaria's wig works out of the salon, but not sure if his works in the full game. I'll test other stuffs later.

EDIT: I've created a new account with a male character to test swapping Selvaria or Matoi's unreleased loose hair, all working flawlessly.

what's the source files you are using? extracted by deicer or ice? I'm using only ice.exe for unpack and repack (because I think ice.exe has a more stable/reliable result)

or, it could be the male hairstyle you choose to swap is more sensitive, I tested with a free hairstyle 0eae672f7afa2b8ab12673fdb289a58c

i tried swapping da394fb0f4cdb8affcfa39483a82de8a (a recolored/revived Weltraum Snow) into Innocent Cluster --> crashed
while i succeeded swapping the other basic first released Weltraum series -- including all of the color variations too, into Innocent Cluster.

then i tried repacking the Weltraum Snow ICE file using the original texture files which i kept, then copy back to game directory --> crashed again
i noticed the file now is 3MB-ish, while the original was 1.201KB aka 1.2MB
then i tried repacking using compressed.bat, got the same 1.2MB file size, but still crashed

idk how this happened, it's only gone after i copied the vanilla file from a friend
i tried deICE itu using deICEv4, no Group1 files.
so yeah, i'm stuck...

will just find other costume to swap =_=

swapping those recolored costume always crash the game. this only happens to those recolored costume have a new 4 digit code for D texture (and the other files still using old 4 digit code)

Only using output from ice.exe. I tried with the hair you said you used, and it still has the same results. Selvaria's fine in salon, crashes out, and matoi won't work.

This is exactly what I did with those and the two swaps that do work without a problem (Jenius to Kirika, Selvaria to Matoi), so I have no idea what I'm doing wrong:

-Unpack using deicer to make sure which groups it has. These only have group 2, so leave both the group1 .txt files blank
-Place the file to be replaced and the file you're replacing it with in the same folder as ice.exe
-Rename to give them the .ice extension (ice.exe won't do anything if I don't do this)
-Drag each one onto ice.exe to unpack
-Rename the files you're swapping in to match the ones you're replacing (in this case, example is: rename pl_hr_2780_d_fm_xx.dds to pl_hr_0007_d_mm_xx.dds)
-Delete the folder for the files you're replacing (in this case, 0eae672f7afa2b8ab12673fdb289a58c)
-Rename the folder of the files being swapped in the match the one you're replacing (in this case, rename 0bcabb74eb500c58184d8b960a790951 to 0eae672f7afa2b8ab12673fdb289a58c)
-Drag the folder onto either compressed.bat or uncompressed.bat (I used compressed for all of these, but uncompressed didn't give any different of a result aside from the file being bigger)
-Rename the resulting file to remove the .ice extension

What did I mess up

I only use ice.exe to unpack and repack (I use uncompressed.bat to repack, compressed.bat usually don't work)

no deicer, no deicer, no deicer... very important

because I think deicer has modified something during the extraction

not all of the re-colored costume, let's say, in your case

ヴェルトラム, ヴェルトラム銀, ヴェルトラム月, ヴェルトラム夜, ヴェルトラム雅, ヴェルトラム萌 they're using same 4 digit code of d/m/n/s texture 1060, so these are okey

but ヴェルトラム雪, ヴェルトラム紅 they're using 2520 for d/m texture, 1060 for n/s texture, swap these kind of costume with other look will crash the game client

The deicer hasn't touched the version of the file that I give to ice.exe. I actually have an entire folder of just every file unpacked already, which was done to copies, which I have since deleted. The original files within win32, which I copy to the ice.exe folder, deicer has not touched.

compressed.bat seems to have been the problem. Everything is working fine after redoing everything using uncompressed.bat instead. Should probably mention something about that in the guide.

I'll get to work on the early deuman skin! Thanks!

Edit:
It works! .... But I need to manually smooth out a couple layers because apparently they had a different system in play for how muscle definition and face types worked. So as-is, they would paint wrinkles and muscles on. Will hopefully have a fully functional and smooth one up by tomorrow.

Um. Any idea why repacked body paints only work on the right side of the body when using layered wear? It doesn't crash, it just doesn't mirror unless it's a normal outfit.

I know 100% that the repacker flubs up when it repacks certain things and can alter .dds files slightly in the process, annoyingly. I don't really have too much advice I can give there, sadly.

That early dewman skin is pretty cool though. Would have been nice to have it as at least body paint.

Nevermind I was making it harder than it had to be. Beta deuman skin is done!

Female takes the place of Tan Lines, male takes the place of Chest Wound, and the makeup takes the place of White Face Guard. All of these are default pieces so that everybody can use them, and as uninvasive as possible so they don't look as weird to people who don't have the mod installed.
However, as the last post said, they don't work as well on layered outfits. They don't crash! But they only display on the right side of the body. They work 100% on normal outfits.
Would like it if it was added to the front post~ ... Later when I have a preview image to give.

3 day pass. Finally, I can remove black scale on Matoi viel costume perfectly.
The interesting thing is DDS file with S in name(ie. pl_bd_4230_s_fu_xx.dds). It can do more than make skin shiny.

Yeah, red, green and blue all do different things on those. IIRC, it varies a bit on the specifics though from thing to thing.

I haven't made any mods for PSO2, but if I were going to make an outfit swap (boy wears girl's clothes) could I extract the clothing file, remove the breasts in a 3D-modelling program, import it, and put it over the clothes I'd want to replace?

Many costume can remove parts easily from delete texture in DDS file with D in name(ie. pl_bd_4230_d_fu_xx.dds). But it depend on costumes. Most of EP1-2 can do this ,EP3-4 it hardly to do.

I've wrote a small program to match Arredoval's hair list with my full extracted filelist

some hair styles have duplicate code & cat combination with different instance
this could be meaning they have different color variants (normal, cv, gv),
or for npc & players (such as ジェネツインテール, 編みこみハーフアップ)

(practical body paints people have said they've wanted, maybe some alternate colors of that very same deuman skin, eliminating logos from 711 shirts..... Stuff like that!)

It worked for me on my last machine, then didn't work on this new one for some reason I've never been able to find out.
After a lot of troubleshooting with various people and trying to figure it out, the only thing that worked was this test .bat, and ONLY this one that we made to test it, so maybe it'll work for you, too:

So I wanted to post and let you guys know that there doesn't seem to be anything that will make modding impossible with this new update. In fact, I've gone and swapped the background from the Yamato battle for the hell of it and it works fine. You will want to redump though so you can use things with the new shaders of course. Also, new setting 6 exclusive texture maps seem to be stored in separate files. If you want to mess with those, you'll want to keep that in mind. Old stuff should probably be updated in most cases.


Not the S file! It's all about the _d and _m files, actually. If you give me a bit, I can write up a small tutorial on it.

Definitely still interested in this when you have time for that by the way!

Wait, is that really how it's going to end up working? I don't want to start dumping everything again until it's alllll in and implemented. I was just starting to sort out folders of things I was interested in editing. Should I be scrapping that and starting over once the update hits? :\

You can certainly pick out the files you want and extract those specifically. I'm just letting you know that if you want setting 6 effects you'll probably be interested in redumping, as bothersome as that is. Not all things seem to have those effects like some outfits, but for example, most weapons seem to. I know it's a pain :/

Alrighty, so this is gonna be a bit of a hefty post. Let's see if I can keep track of it all.

Hello everyone! In a short break from modding costumes, I came to share the great deed that my friend has showed me: how to create a GV hair from a non GV hair.

[SPOILER-BOX]
Step 1: Locate the hair you want and make sure you have the programs needed.

So you want to make a GV hair? First off, you need to make sure that you have a program that can edit .dds files. The one I use is Paint.net, which there is a link to in the guide which is linked on the first post. Along with that, you need the de-icer and repacker, but if you're doing mods, you should already have those! (Also in the guide on the front post)

After you do that, locate the hair you want to GV. There is a file list HERE (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1GQwG49iYM1sgJhyAU5AWP-gboemzfIZjBGjTGEZSET4/edit#gid=463223600). Clicking the tabs at the bottom will get you a lot of things, but you want the one that says "Hairstyles." For this tutorial, I'll be using シャオヘアー , or Xiao hair.


Step 2: Unpack the file, and make a folder for the mod.

Now you might be saying "But WarSarah, why such a redundant step?" Because you ALWAYS want a file back up!

I always make a a folder labeled with the mod I'm doing, and then make two folders inside of that labeled "REPACKED" and "BACKUPS". Like so:

Using the list, copy the ice name and search for it in your win32 in the pso2_bin folder. You want to copy the file when it comes up, and paste it into the backups folder before doing anything else. After you do that, feel free to unpack the file, and drop it in the main mod folder for the hair.


Step 3: Let's color us some GV, baby.


This is where it gets tricky. So once you have the iced file with the textures, you'll want to open in. Inside the folder, it should look something like this (with the proper file designations, of course):

The files we're using today are the _d and _m files. Don't touch the other ones. To start off, open up the _d file. It should look a little something like this:

You'll want to go to the toolbar up top (assuming you're using Paint.net) and click the adjustments tab:

For color editing, you'll want the Hue/Saturation option:

(Certain hairs don't come in color though, so there will be a little P.S indicating what to do with non colored hairs.)

Mess with the sliders until you get the desired color you want for the GV:

Now that we've taken care of the _d file, it's time to save it.

In order to make sure the files work properly, you absolutely must save with settings I tell you. The hair will break otherwise:
So when you go to save, make sure it you save it over .dds file. When saving, you MUST (must) [M U S T] save the files in the DXT5 format for the _d file. Nothing else works:

Once you have that saved, close it, and open up the _m file.

After you open it up, you'll want to create a new layer, by hitting the button with a green plus in this box. It should be in the bottom right corner by default

After it's made, go back up to the toolbar and instead of adjustments, hit "Layers", then "Layer Properties"

After that, mess with the properties so they look exactly like this, then hit ok!

After that, while still on Layer 2, you'll want to select a piece of the hair to GV. After you select it, click the the blue button on the vertical toolbar to the left, and click and drag.

To get a softer gradient, click lower below the image and drag up to make the gradient, well, softer. Do that for the rest of the hair, so you end up with something like this:

Once you get all the hair, save this one as well. You'll have to go through the extra step of making sure you save it as a .dds

THIS PART IS IMPORTANT AGAIN!
When saving the _m file, you NEED to save it with the DXT1 setting or else it WILL NOT WORK!

After you hit okay, it'll ask you if you want to flatten the image. Hit "yes", and then close out of the file.


Step 4: Repacking and testing your mod


The hard part is over! After you're all done coloring and what not, you'll want to repack the file of course. Drag the file onto the "uncompressed" batch file in the repacker, and remove the .ice extension to make it compatible with PSO2. Stick that in the "REPACKED" folder we made in the mod folder before to make sure you have a saved copy. After that, copy the repacked file, and drop it into your win32. If it all worked...

After you open it up, you'll want to create a new layer, by hitting the button with a green plus in this box. It should be in the bottom right corner by default

After it's made, go back up to the toolbar and instead of adjustments, hit "Layers", then "Layer Properties"

After that, mess with the properties so they look exactly like this, then hit ok!

After that, while still on Layer 2, you'll want to select a piece of the hair to GV. After you select it, click the the blue button on the vertical toolbar to the left, and click and drag.

To get a softer gradient, click lower below the image and drag up to make the gradient, well, softer. Do that for the rest of the hair, so you end up with something like this:

Once you get all the hair, save this one as well. You'll have to go through the extra step of making sure you save it as a .dds

THIS PART IS IMPORTANT AGAIN!
When saving the _m file, you NEED to save it with the DXT1 setting or else it WILL NOT WORK!

After you hit okay, it'll ask you if you want to flatten the image. Hit "yes", and then close out of the file.


Step 4: Repacking and testing your mod


The hard part is over! After you're all done coloring and what not, you'll want to repack the file of course. Drag the file onto the "uncompressed" batch file in the repacker, and remove the .ice extension to make it compatible with PSO2. Stick that in the "REPACKED" folder we made in the mod folder before to make sure you have a saved copy. After that, copy the repacked file, and drop it into your win32. If it all worked...

Do you know if it's possible to make a normal hair into a two tone with the second tone changeable? It would seem you could do some interesting things with this. I'm guessing some other color like red or green would do it if anything like how black does this effect.

You unfortunately can't create a two tone with color changing options without a _k file. Actual GVs have the special _k file in order to designate exactly how the color changes/where.

Ah I see. Still neat though.

As for the other thing, it's probably the way the maps are defined in the shader files or how the game treats them when loaded. It reminds me somewhat of Silver's issues he found with certain precolored outfits since the server defined them as green somewhere. This lead a rappy knight costume to have a green tint all around when swapped as I recall. There may or may not be something to be done about this. It's hard to say.

Adding and removing parts isn't necessarily easy or simple. We can "remove" some things by making them invisible, but we can't exactly add things that don't exist to a costume generally.

You have to give it time to detect everything. It's not best to do every single file at once. Even on a powerful computer rig, it's going to take some time and if it's not up to snuff, it won't even work.

So basically, separate out your files into different folders, make sure the files listed in the modding guide are removed from your file sets temporarily, and it should work.

But, is there any way to make searching for a specific weapon (camo?) or any other item easier? Or do we seriously have to browse through every file manually? I keep trying to find the data for the Radiant weapon camo. Instead, I found tutorial pictures, Clarissa, some Invade weapon, Phantom Seagulls and Dolphins, the blue Edea Cluster outfit, and so on.

After all, someone had luck finding the data for Viola, the Revolutio series, and some of the Tagemikazuchi weapons...


Apart from the files listed in the guide thread, these files also consistently crash for me, but not for other people despite us having the exact same deICEr. Some people say that a few of these aren't even ICE archives so they should have been excluded, but.... Well, they weren't, for whatever reason. I couldn't get through more than 500 at a time because of these when I was unpacking the first time. Now I do them in batches of about 2,000~5,000 and get no crashes.

If there's still crashes for you after isolating all of these, there's something speeecially wrong with something on your end, much like mine, no idea what and no idea how to fix it. You're going to have to do what I did and do them about 500 at a time and then split them in half every time it crashes so you can find and isolate the one that's making it crash. This can take weeks, depending on how much free time you have each day and how much of that time you're willing to devote to this task

Select a directory, wait for it to actually display a list of files before proceeding. If you don't it will inevitably crash or miss a bunch of files.

Download Madevil's .txt with the list of the extracted contents of everything.
Open it and search for the weapon files you need, copy/paste the onto Ice folder, extract it, search for dds files, open them. This is how i've done my list.

I would suggest using ice.exe for extraction, just drag the folder onto ice.exe and everything goes smoothly.

yes, I mean almost 43k files in one go, without crashing

one more thing, I normally make another copies of D textures for catalog browsing,
for example, make a windows file search for pl_bd_??_d_??_??.dds and copy them out to another folder, and there it goes a catalog for costumes
if you're looking for gunslash, serach for wp_??_17_*_d.dds

sage thumbnail is powerful, but crash a lot, I think it's not sage's problem, it's more likely windows explorer can't handle thumbnail cache gracefully...
xnview will do a better job for dds thumbnail browsing
