View Full Version : I realized recently how terrible the team system is

Can't make your own member statuses
Can't check when a member was last online
Can't check what a member is doing like you can on Friend's List

Not having these things is actually really dumb of SEGA.

iirc, there was a time where you couldn't even send a party invite to team members through the menu.

Team system doesn't do anything in this game, it's honestly just a chat channel (apart from the tree buffs).

I really wish we could check last online for friends.
I bet I could clear ~150 people from each of my accounts.

I use a different system accounting for time-zone as such reflects hardship and culture as well.

Here are colors:

Red = NA-Players (players in the timezone I live in as well)
Blue = EU players (players in Europe on my list. Seeing Blue makes me think "we have a time difference, so be careful")
Gold = SEA/Oceanic players (Basically the two farthest time zones from me where finding time to play together and dealing with the differences in culture allow me to only play with them when I am online during OFF HOURS.

Green = Arranged Friend Requests have people enter here, I keep people who I find are ok, but have not made it to the timezone lists.

Pink = A flag for those in groups I have questions or problems with in one way or another.

No Group = Entry of people who invite me by any other means.

=====================================

Contact Priority Ranking:

1, Red, Blue, Gold
2. Green
3. Pink, No-Group

Friendlist Management:

No-Group Contacts = Deleted every sunday morning during login if contact is not sorted into a group.
Pink Group Contacts = I try to get to the bottom of each contact for consistency. If there is no contact for a week, I delete the contact during Sunday first login.

Notes:

I used to try to "Rank Friends" by how close i am to them, and felt that was wrong in the past due to the fact that if people really are that close to me, I would remember their names and characters without having to depend on an online list.

Adopting this system has allowed me to actually keep my list far less cluttered than what I had before which was a complete mess.

Friendlist colour:

Red: ilfoie spamming bots
Blue: ilmegid spamming bots
Yellow: megivus spamming bots
Green: zanvus spamming bots
Purple: hardcore leechers, avoid their blocks
No group: letsbecomefriends! (lv 21/0)

Yes this would be useful for managers and the TM.

It should stay that way.

I've been playing since release and never joined a team until this year, and even then it was just a group of my friends wanting to have that special chat channel more than anything. Teams are pretty much useless.
But I admit to enjoy messing around and taking goofy screenshots in team rooms. They provide a good backdrop for those photoshoots.

I still found it to be annoying that they didn't implement some kind of counter to show last login time.
They have it for PSO2es, so i assume that they know how to make it work, but just refuse doing so for some reason.

Works as party filter, too.
But yeah, team doesn't do much.

PSO2 team indeed leaves much to be desired, since it lacked crucial features that a team structure should have. One can argue whether SEGA have no idea what features team structure should have; or it was deliberately designed that way.

Friend-list at least are slightly better than the team system.

Exactly the same fucking system.

All chat, team logo could be uploaded from an external bmp file.

PSO2's is a better system.

I was gonna come along and say the original PSO didn't have teams. Was that a BB thing or something then? I pretty much played that one once or twice just to see the new areas.

Frankly on the cube you didn't need them. Games weren't locked to blocks, lobbies were small so it was easier to talk to people (not to mention talking was encouraged on the original, but let's not go there again), and you only needed 4 to a party anyways - it was a much easier experience back then.

It was a Blue Burst thing.

F12 to open team chat, space to talk. It had very basic functions, wasn't too bad, but compared to now, terrible.

Drama is a feature exists in any multiplayer game, even in real life when you beat your broken hearted friend on some games.

Technically yes this team system is missing core features like last login and stuff, at the point someone has to make a website/excel to cover this problem.

This. Just join a team and say some random racist, offensive stuff, and bam you have tons of white knight there to make you a moral person

I will be one of the person who'll be the white knight and kick anyone if he or she is acting like a real jerk cause I won't need that kind of people, intended or not.
Past experience, they only turn things into chaos if you keep em at the point you'd rather keep elite players.

Objectively, I'm sure there are teams that are purposely made to make some random racist, offensive stuff, and bam no one cares if he or she becomes a real shit anywhere. :-?

The issue is that the western community takes teams super seriously. (gotta play with your team, gotta keep good reputation for your team, people judge people by their teams, all that garbage) If someone from team X is being bad and badmouthing people, people will start judging team X as having "bad people", even though it's just one guy.

There's so much drama between teams it's unreal. While I personally made my team as a centre for people to play together, I'm not super strict on team stuff because it's not like we're trying to be better than other teams or whatever, we're just playing the game.

My team is just me and my friend. I could invite people, but I don't want to deal with any BS.
The other friend who I no longer talk to quit at around level 5-10 a few years back because PSO2's English patch stuff "gave him a headache" and he didn't want to learn.

In other news, my tree finally grew in size today! Only took 4 years.

PSO series has always been about farming for ages for better gear, it just needs to properly return to those roots instead of completely fucking it up with time-gated, EQ hunts.

Even with the droprate's being total scrooge-tier back when Ult Naberius was still new it was nice as hell being able to find people to do something alongside with the possibility that maybethisnextAngahasagoodieforme.
EQs were mostly not worth doing other than for cubes as they only had like one or two 12* which were already overshadowed by Ares anyway. (and we bitched about it)

Gal Gryphon's arrival had a similar effect in that there was always something to fall back on (Limited Quest) but he also added value to EQs that he spawned in because his droprate was so damn high there.

By the time PD (and by extent, TD4) came around it was back to idling in the lobby for EQs or hopelessly farming lv80 Ruins for Nero stones. SOMETIMES you can find a rare UQ group and maybe yank a few Ares stones off them but that's a long shot.

Profound Darkness won, we don't do anything anymore.

Have you tried removing those friends? I don't understand why you guys have such full friends lists and do nothing about it.

If they're people you wouldn't want to know what you're doing, chances are they're not exactly great friends either.

Team questing is horrible and independent, there should be content specifically made for teams, like in black desert, there are guild quests that require of many members help to accomplish and the best part is: you are able to fail.

I have a solution to both of those. :3c
They could do something like GW2 did and let teams trigger EQs whenever they want by spending team points. Maybe even include some special team only quests. I'm sure solo players would complain if there were any unique rewards though.

Just because PSO2 has always been about farming for better gear doesn't mean it couldn't be... you know, better.
For example, it wouldn't be as meaningless if they added more new content instead of reusing old content so much.
Or if they added a lot of different, fun things to do. Doing the same few old things over and over is unsurprisingly very tedious, repetitive and boring.

Have you tried removing those friends? I don't understand why you guys have such full friends lists and do nothing about it.

If they're people you wouldn't want to know what you're doing, chances are they're not exactly great friends either.

I'm almost never doing anything, so I don't really care if people can see what I'm doing.
My Friend Lists are all full because lots of people use my Friend Partners.
They give me tons and tons of FUN. I don't want to just cut them off. "Hey, thanks for all the FUN. Now f**k off!"
I don't want to remove people unless I'm close to 100% sure they aren't active.

When I need space, I remove people who meet all these criteria:
1. an EN username (feels like they're more likely to have quit)
2. an empty ARKS card (no team, no comment, no symbol art, etc)
3. don't remember ever seeing the name on my "used friend partner" history
4. don't recall ever seeing them online
5. never sent me any GJ

It'd be a hell of a lot easier if it showed last login, like PSO2ES does.
That's what really pisses me off. Why does PSO2ES have so many better features?
They should kick out the PSO2 directors and have the PSO2ES guy take over.

Another thing they could have done was made favorite Friend Partners a separate list from the Friend List.
That would make a hell of a lot more sense.
But... I guess you wouldn't be able to call them "Friend Partners" then.

Yeah because if you click on someone on a friendlist and see them in a party of 4/4 in a mission means they're doing something, right?

I've had times when I went into a mission to finish off a daily quickly with some friend machines and then go afk for maybe 10+ mins.
Now with this new setup, if someone can now see I'm doing something and whisper me of maybe "Can I join?" or "Want to do a mission?" or "TA? XQ? EQ?" or whatever and I don't respond, now I would seem like I'm ignoring them.

Plus, I don't see how it was soooo hard to if you see a friend on and merely asking them "Busy?" with them easily giving you a simple yes/no or something.

Sorry that I'm not some Facebook/Twitter idiot that needs to hear and find out what people are doing 24/7 and liking everyone to know what I'm doing every moment I'm on a fucking game.

I often hear of people getting upset when it feels like they were lied to because of being able to see what others are supposedly doing.
For that reason, I don't see it as a good thing. It's too damn vague and misleading.

I know people who will start a quest just to get away from the lobby, or in preparation for the next EQ.
Used to do it myself. Doesn't mean we're actually doing anything, or not AFK.

Then be vigilant and set your status to away every time you do. I'm reasonably sure that's what the "Zz" icon I rarely see in the friend list means.

Also maybe I'm weird but being ignored is not really my first instinct when I don't get a reply, and I feel it's the same case for a lot of people so you're worrying over nothing.

Too bad team feature don't have that "Away" system, or custom message that the person can leave message (again like friend list feature) and say they want to join an EQ/AQ/TAXQ or not.
I had tons of trouble asking who's away and not away. Traditional way is only confirming manually in team chat.

My only complaint about team's is the team room. There's like absolutely nothing in there to occupy you or your team mate's time. Maybe if there was a tekker at least, or a Dudu. If you could start missions from your team room it would also be pretty nice.

TaigaUC

I wish team rooms weren't on a separate server.
I'd just hang out there instead of the stupid lobby.
But I can't because I need to leave block.

I like to hang out in Franca's Cafe or the Bridge now.
The Bridge has annoying ambient sounds though, and EN people like to spam chat in Franca's Cafe.

It'd be ncie if rooms weren't on a separate server, too.
Then we could, you know, use room functions without losing block.
