There has never been any two characters of potential romance within the game's story to have admitted their love for each other. Not even Ulc and Theo refer to themselves or are referred to as lovers. Itsuki and Rina, or any other potential ships in the game, becoming an official couple has as much of a chance of coming true as PSO2 getting a Western release.

... but it would be DAMN entertaining if Itsuki and Rina confess to each other... Online... while Rina is using her SORO character :-D

A "cool" strange weirdo who despite being a terrible spy with no sense of stealth or subtlety never gets her true identity discovered except by the MC, somehow gains a group of loving friends despite having no social skills and constantly skipping any opportunity to hang out with them, and uses an inherently silly class and its outfit that contrasts severely with her ultra-serious personality.

All of these traits of hers would've been perfectly fine if the anime was a lot more self-aware or at least had a good tsukkomi character that constantly points out the absurd inconsistency of Aika's character.

No, I'm mad about these specific PSO2 anime characters that were so boring and poorly written, even by the game's standards of writing quality, being added into the game's content. Not to mention the atrociously bad final episode of the anime which has still left a bad taste in me. Its not a matter of hating anime in general (which I don't). Its a matter of hating THIS specific anime exactly because I like anime in general to begin with.

While at least Itsuki and Rina are merely guest characters not necessarily forced onto us, Aika is unfortunately a seemingly integral part to EP4's story. Still, I have noticed that the voice acting for Aika (though having only listened to few seconds of it) is significantly better than it was in the anime, like as though the VA actually gave a damn so I'm a bit more hopeful that Aika will be a bit more likeable than how she was portrayed in the anime.

Well, the fault lies more in the story writer, not the seiyuu.
I'd say that M.A.O. did well in voicing stoic Aika, but there's no denying that stoicAika are the opposite of her usual voicing (which is clearly shown when you compare stoicAika to defrostedAika)

If its unnoticeable, its not subtle at all because even subtlety should be easily noticeable. I've noticed no change of her voice or personality from Episode 8 onwards.

... but yes. I'm not hating on the VA. Its really the fault of either the director or writer of the anime that Aika came off as an incredibly dull character.

In short, the anime sucks. It fails to attract newcomers, its a terrible service to longtime fans of the game, and fails miserably as a bridging point for EP4's story.

I wouldn't be hating on the anime so much if I didn't like PSO2 or anime in general to begin with.
