Is PSO2 down right now?

I just started playing and i'm getting a msg when i try to play, idk what it is so i'm wondering if something random happened and now it's not working or if it's just down for maintenance or maybe an update

Yes, maintenance is typically scheduled to start at 10PM EST every Tuesday, so it just went down about 50 minutes ago.

EDIT: You can also keep tabs on the site Kril linked below. I wasn't able to post it unfortunately, since I still need to cross a certain post threshold before I can have links or images in my posts. Bumped will always have a post up ahead of scheduled downtimes, and usually try to have something up in the event that the servers must go down for emergency maintenance.

Either way, yes every Wednesday/Tuesday expect extended maintenance. I recommend playing PSOBB or PSU if you REALLY need that Phantasy Star fix. (Like me)
