Well not exactly news to those of us who already own the game, but a great submission to the newcomers :)at least if you plan on saving the game (we're sure you will). PSO is using a new saving techinque that encodes your Dreamcast's serial number into the saved game, thus allowing that save game to only be loaded on your particular Dreamcast. If you want to play at a friend's house with your saved game, you'll have to tote the Dreamcast along with you.

What's the whole point of that? Phantasy Star Online will be the first console game where your identity can virtually be at risk. Every person who plays the game will be playing with a unique character, and the last thing you want is for your save game to be on the Internet for other people to use. Well, perhaps you would, but this keeps the game fair by making everyone have to work through the game fairly. This works well with the built-in code protection for the game as well, which will not allow Gameshark or other cheat device's codes to be used during online play.

So when you log onto PSO for the first time, your serial number will be tacked on so that your character is secure. Pretty cool, huh? You heard it here first
