I haven't seen too many recent updates for it and just out of date info, is the development at a slow crawl? are there people even working on it anymore? I've wanted to play but I've been waiting for things to get fixed etc before delving into the game

Very active, current rewrite is being tested by the team and Patrons. Discord is very active.
