View Full Version : Would a mod that allows text size to be at 2.0x or something for 2160p be possible?

So last year when I came back, I asked a question here regarding resolution and text size because I had purchased an Ultra HD TV at the beginning of the year and was curious about playing it at 2160p without getting an eyestrain. Of course, with a GTX 750 TI, playing at 2160p at a decent frame rate was more or less possible. Now I have a GTX 1080, I sold my Playstation systems and joined the PC Master Race, repurchasing my games on GOG and Steam and now I would like to play PSO2 at 2160p with that much better frame rate. But there's thing that tiny little issue where I can't read the menus :(

Could a mod be made so that the text size would be at 2.0x or whatever just like you can make it 1.5x for 1080p?

I'd want Sega to implement proper UI customization features instead of relying on mods that might break Sega's ToS. Stuff like the E-Trial Codes really don't need to block half of the screen while other UI elements could benefit from an increase in size for easier visibility.

Hey I'd want an official update as well, but I doubt we'll have one before SEGA pulls the plug on PSO2. As for ToS, pretty sure that wouldn't be any different than using a translation for the story and UI as well as a real time one for the items, so I'd be willing to take my chances.

Two things: 1) post this in mod thread next time just in case board mods get a little stingy about this
2) No. Customizing font size is a bit iffy, as well as just dicking with ui in general. Your text probably wouldn't fit in the proper boxes anymore. Gomen, hope this answers your question

Are you talking from experience regarding text and UI?

As someone who moderates over the public modding discord: yes. You'd probably have to redo somethings after every update because Sega almost always touches the UI

Hmm, doesn't sound like I'll ever be able to properly experience PSO2 in 4K if this is the case. Still, I wonder why they implemented a custom option in the in tweaker in the first place if this is more or less possible:

sega scaling UI over a ref resolution, u can change it in user.pso2 in Documents folder. basically smaller ref resolution = bigger UI scaling over that. it will be a little bit blurry since using lower res.

Screen = {
InterfaceSize = 0,
MaxScale = 2,
PreferredScale = 1,
ReferenceResolution = {
Y = 720,
X = 1280,
},
},

Tried that last year (you probably found the same reddit post I did), didn't work.

worked for me. it's the place where tweaker edits the scale. knew about it when there was a bug on tweaker that reversed the X and Y values so my texts went too small however i tried tweaker scaling options. i'm on virtual fullscreen btw

Oh ya, I recall reporting a bug earlier last year when someone from the Arks Layer team said that it was found a while, guess that might have been it. Would you mind posting your config along with a screenshot of your results so that I may compare with mine?

EDIT: BTW, don't know if that was on purpose or not, but those settings in your previous post are the default ones when you select 3840 x 2160.

EDIT 2: OK, I'll make it simple

This is 2160p at Window mode with the UI at the regular scale
https://i.postimg.cc/dZ9vhXth/pso20181203-014945-000.png (https://postimg.cc/dZ9vhXth)

This is 2160p at Window mode with the UI at the 1.5 scale
https://i.postimg.cc/hhVGFZgW/pso20181203-014720-000.png (https://postimg.cc/hhVGFZgW)

This is 1080p in Full Screen mode with the UI at 1.5 scale
https://i.postimg.cc/62nBXqkL/pso20181203-020114-000.png (https://postimg.cc/62nBXqkL)

See the size of the IU of that last one, this is the size I want in 2160p. So, is this possible?

Arks-Layer member/"Tweaker" Discord mod here.

You can have custom settings as long as they're valid and sega won't override them. The simple act of moving your game UI windows will edit their entry in the user.pso2 file. Thus if you use something like Notepad++. you will be asked if you wanted to refresh the source file. since the X and Y values would have been changed.

HOLY SHIT! While googling for a solution to my problem, I just found that SEGA's official launcher for PSO2 doesn't support over 1080p. I had my doubts, so I open it and it's true, 1920 x 1080 is the max resolution offered by the game officially, anyone not using the tweaker has to use the pso2.user file to get 2160p, WTF SEGA!!!! I understand that this game came out in 2012, but seriously, passed 2016, this should have no longer been a hidden feature! For Christ sake, Japan has 8K TVs now with satellite programming to match this insane resolution, can you get with the program?

So ya, never mind my issue, no wonder no one can properly answer it, 4K wasn't even on SEGA's mind to begin with! It's a good thing I didn't buy my GTX 1080 for PSO2 or I would be crying right now :(

Did you make an account here just to ask this? Trust me, if there was a solution, I'd be dancing for joy.

Please post if you find a fix. Even on my 55 inch TV, the tiny ui is rough.

There won't be a fix until SEGA makes one, which by now will probably be never.

Well, time to talk about PSO2 in 4K again. Do you think that the upcoming western PC version will push SEGA to implement official 4K settings in the official launcher and the option for bigger HUD size (like 3.0x or something)?

yes lets talk about something with little to no info far away from actual release hmmm
