You dont. You can only keep the weapons/items that you backup so you can use them on a new character if and when you get corrupted... which is what he means, I believe.
I heard you can get online fine with characters made on the USB card, but once you reload an old saver (backed up save on PC)... you can not get back online with the character... although I have not tested this.

Yep, PentupAnger is exactly right. If you create a char on the USB card and go online, you're ok, if you reload that char then you get an error saying something about using a comprimised save file. The only thing its good for is restoring items, mats, mags etc.

if you do restore an old saver, the online server will detect it, but all you lose are items in inventory AND in bank, but you still keep your character

The exact error message is:
(No.122)
There is an error in the save file.
It was either saved improperly, or the
server was accessed using a compromised
save file.
The following data will be reinitialized
:Items/Challenge mode.
PRESS START
After that, yes you can join online games but like Brillyfresh said your items will all be gone. Both in your inventory and your bank. Thanks for clearing that up Brilly, I guess I should have given a little more detail http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif
