Broadband Adaptor!!??

i wanted to get online to meet some people this weekend...so i called EVERY store including wal-mart,k b toys,eb,toys r us,Best buy,and a few others for the broadband adaptor..everyone gave me the same response "we dont have the broadband,only the modem adaptor" or "we dont have either".....whats the deal with this?is the only place to actually purchase the adaptor directly from nintendo.com?
