View Full Version : My force dilemma

Well, I posted this on the GameFAQs boards, and I was hoping for a bigger variety of answers...

Okay, here's the deal...

I'm at a point with my characters, in that I wish to have a Force, but I'm curious about whihc decisions to make.

1. Which one should I go for? I don't really want a FOnewm/FOmar (they both look really daft in my opinion) so should I go for the FOmarl or the FOnewearl. I like the Tech casting ability, but I don't want it to be so centered around techs that they fail in other places. 'Over-specialise and you breed in weakness' so to speak. Is the lower MST compensated for by the higher ATP/ATA/DFP? Is the Grants boost really worthwhile and so on. I can't go online and I have no intention of doing so for some time (being unemployed sucks monkey eggs)

2. Which Section ID? Should I go with the Bog-standard Pinkal, or should I compensate for my Ranger's cruddy ID choice (Bluefull, but she's lvl 133 and I'm not going to erase her) I get okayish Force equipment from her... I was considering Yellowboze for the chance to get pretty much all the 9 star rares, but Skyly also gets some pretty kick-bottom equipment... Justy 23ST, Angel Harp, Twin Blaze, Yas 7000 and so on...

FOnewearl without question. FOmarl is meant to support other players

best solo Fo using soley fo techs I would say fonewm.

If you want to play a girl both the fos are fun to play, looks alone I think fomarl is more elegant.

As for section ID I think pinkal is crappy. I'd go for redria. You find better stuff that you can trade as well for FO stuff... and I've found more techs under redria than pinkal. I don't like my ID at all... oh well.

do a forum search, there are TONS of Fo discussions all ready made, even in the past month. Goodluck

I already have a Redria character (My hunter)

I was considering the Viridia/Greenill/Purplenum so that I could get the Shots/Rifles/Mechguns to substitute the sheer amount of poo I get on my Ranger (stoopid Gae Bolgs, I'm choking on the bloody things) Should I go with one of those, or go with a neutral like Yellowboze

Also I do agree on the elegence of the FOmarls... One of them would look pretty bitchin' with an Elysion/Morning Glory

You say that overspecializing breeds weakness, but I'd say it's just the opposite--if you try to be too balanced, you won't do anything well. Keep in mind you don't have to do everything. My FOnewearl couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with a saber or mechgun, but that's ok, because she doesn't need to. Especially at the higher levels, you will regret the "jack-of-all-trades" approach. As a FOmarl, you'll never come close to competing with hunters or rangers in terms of weapon-based damage. And if you aren't careful, the extra defense power can actually hurt you, where the monsters just beat on you till you die, rather than knocking you down and giving you a chance to heal. A FOnewearl has a higher TP and MST, can Resta/Anti just as well as you can, and all the while she's nuking the crap out of everything in sight. The only advantage you have is your Grants, which is a single-enemy spell that takes an eternity to cast.

There are a million hunters out there. I've never played in a game where we had a shortage of melee fighters, so why bother handicapping your FO skills in exchange for mediocre fighting? Also remember that the difficulty is adjusted so that a pure HU or FO will be challenged. If you can't fight or cast as well as they can, then the whole game is gonna be harder for you.

Couldn't agree with you more. I have a FOnewm, and at lvl 143- I dominate both episodes Ultimate offline! I also know I make huge contribution online with techs and the damage they generate. I dont think being a tech heavy FOnewm breeds weakness at all- its a necessity! I can join a game and make a difficult situation very light. You have probably heard the phrase " dont judge a book by it's cover"- whether we (FOnewm) look daft or not- we still kick major A$$! Most (not all) FOmarl cant compare at this level.

Overspecialize or not, it all depends on whether you want a challenge or not. I choose my characters based on the level of difficulty I think they're likely to give me, rather than what's most powerful (besides, if everyone thought that way, PSO would be chocked full of FOnewms and FOnewearls and the game would cease to be entertaining very quickly).

I think whatever FO you pick- it would be very challenging in the begining levels. I had a heck of a time raising my FOnewm- but it was worth it. Hope you find a FO thats not only challenging, but fun as well. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I agree with LadyRedComet, blowing everything away with sheer magic power may not be what everyone prefers to do.

If you want to find some of the level 30 techs, you might have to go with the "standard" Pinkal. Do note however, i did happen to find more tech disks under the Redria id. But from what i heard, the RA, Grants, and Megid 30's are only found under Pinkal...well they have a higher drop rate i should say...

FoNewearls all the way,
The have good all around techs and they have the highest TP potential out of all the classes

well I think fonewearl is best but I dunno I mean I've got a Hucast and a FOmar and as you can see in my siggy I kinda fell in love with my HUcast to tell you the truth i even started with my FOmar but I cant stand being so weak at the beggining and cool weaponless. Then I started as my HUcast and fell in love so i kinda need the reasurance myself will it get anymore fun with my force? Also I have a problem with all the spells I have so I need to ask how should I customise my little attack thingy?

As a Force, you'll be re-customizing your hotkeys all the time, depending on what level or boss you're about to take on. You'll also want to use the X button to sort your spell list (the one that comes up when you hit R+Y). This is probably especially important for a FOmar, who will be using two or three slots for weapon attacks.

I always have Resta keyed, and almost always Foie and Rafoie (only exception was non-Ultimate Mines, where I used Zonde series). In Ultimate I have Jellen and Zalure as well. Before Ultimate, I typically had Zonde and Rabarta instead of J/Z.

Spells that I keep handy in my quick-list are Anti, Shifta, Deband, Reverser, and Ryuker.
