Side note: This is my first time writing a fanfiction. Go easy on me!

Chapter I

Elvendar practiced a few sweeping stikes with the new partisan, then thrust it into the manakin. The hunters guild had only taught its new recruits the basics of a three hit saber strike, which didn't quite apply to the mechanics of a partisan. She was due to go out on Ragol in a week, which meant she had to get more used to the sweeping blows of a partisan or get slaughtered by hostile Boomas.

Elvendar was an outcast. She was a newman hunter. To all members of her race, she was a disgrace, choosing the way of the blade rather than to draw out her inner powers of magic. To all the humans and androids, she was just a foreigner. If she wanted to be regarded as a normal member of her society, she would have to make a name for herself in the hunter business.

"I... will be the greatest hunter in the world" she dreamed, gazing out of the windows of the ship into the ragol sky. She looked at the partisan, wedged into the manakin, photon blade humming. "But first, i'll need some practice..." she sighed.

* * *

The next week had come. Elvendar got up, grabbed her gear, and promptly reported to the hunters guild to recieve her Ragol clearance pass. Other members from her class were also there, but she had never really talked to them much, except for giving them the occasional exam answer. "Hey, it's flatso!" said a rather pudgy Newman Force. Elvendar ignored him. He was wearing a very ugly looking yellow outfit with a hat that seemed to bop around with step. For some reason, he was also wearing a name tag that read "King Canin"; Though Elvendar seriously doubted he was the king of anything.

Elvendar had her partisan strapped across her back, and her basic armor was quite readed. She recieved her Ragol clearance pass and walked towards the teleporter, but couldn't help noticing that Newman fool was following her after recieving his pass. "What are you doing?" She asked Canin, who tried to act like he wasn't following her. "Oh, I was just, er, going to accompany you." he said with a wierd smile. Elvendar looked him over. "You're not going to Ragol armed with just a hedge clipper, are you?" She looked over him. "You can come along. I'll wait for you here, just get a REAL weapon." With those words, he sheepishly wandered away to get equipment.

* * *

The pair stepped out of the warp gate and into the forest of Ragol. Elvendar took her partisan out and turned on the weapon, letting the photon energy flow into the blade. Canin took out a used cane. He turned it on, and the photon energized the end, and then flickered and burned out. Elvendar sighed. This was going to be a long trip today.

Chapter II

Elvendar looked around the forest excitedly. She was on her way. Finally; this was her chance to make it big, and become known as more than just an outcast in her society. She readied her barrier and such whiile Canin stood slapping his malfunctioning cane. She looked at the nearly-dead weapon and sighed again.

The initial part of the forest was uneventful. The area was quite empty, save for a box, most likely a dropped merchant's crate from pioneer 1. Inside was a new cane, which she gave to Canin (for his poor used cane had died alltogether.) Canin seemed pleased enough with his new toy. Elvendar noticed a switch by a door, and she activated it, hoping to find some adventure in the next area. A security light on the door went green, and the twin gates opened before her. Beyond the gates, two boomas wandered around - slow, ugly, but powerful sloth-like creatures. She was confident she could take them both down; although Canin (who had just hit himself in the head with the new cane) might have a little difficulty battling these monsters.

Elvendar nodded towards Canin, then ran through the door. Holding the partisan high, she reached the Booma quickly and gave it a hard downward slash, straight through its torso. The Booma's legs wobbled from the momentum of the blow, and it came down in two pieces. She had beaten this one.

Canin, on the other hand, didn't have such luck. He ran into the first booma and slapped it with his new cane, which did almost nothing but bounce off the beast. In response, the Booma promptly smacked him in the face, knocking him unconsious. His Chao mag looked down at its master and sighed audibly.

Hearing Canin get smacked to the ground, Elvendar turned her partisan for her next strike, running towards the Booma. The dumb creature turned around and noticed Elvendar, but it didn't seem to notice the swift upward slash of her partisan, severing a clean fourth of it's body. The sound of the booma gurgling on it's own blood told Elvendar that she would have no more trouble from that monster.

* * *

After reviving Canin with a moon atomizer, they searched the room for treasure. Inside the stomach of the first booma, a few meseta were found, but not anything significant. Inside the second, a technique disk for a basic fire spell was retrieved. "Use this from now on." Elvendar said, and tossed the disk at Canin.

There were a few boxes in the room, containing articles of clothing, personal items of the pioneer 1 citizens, and other things. None of this would really sell, it had been mostly destroyed by Ragols native animals searching for food. Elvendar wondered where all the real treasure would be; Rare, crafted weapons that the mightiest heroes of Ragol had used. She was certain bigger monsters than boomas would find them eventually, and she had no intentions of dying before her dream came true.

Note: I have no clue why, but i'm really happy with this chapter. Chapter IV is well on it's way, it just needs to be revised. Oh, and say hello to the newest character, Tracon!

Chapter III
Android's Ambush

The trip through the forest had been great. The pair of hunters had slain a total of eight enemies, all of which were relatively easy. Elvendar was confident at this point that they could head towards the ruins of the central dome, in which there had been reports of larger and more fearsome beasts to battle. Based on her previous experiences, Elvendar knew that bigger beasts meant bigger treasure. Elvendar liked the sound of bigger treasure.

The hike to the central dome was most surprising. Elvendar had slain the few Rappies that had tried to block the journey thus far, but she never expected anything like this. Three hunters, all verified to be from pioneer two's hunter guild, had been reduced to Booma fodder from another hunter's photon weaponry. Their bodies had been looted of all possessions worth anything. Someone had obviously murdered this trio.

"Who would do such a thing?!" Gasped Canin. Elvendar shrugged. "I don't have any ideas, but whatever did this must still be near. The corpses are fresh. Be on guard." With those words, the two walked off. Elvendar noted that Canin kept his hand by his 'trusty' cane (as he described it), yet she doubted it would do anything against another hunter, much less a monster.

* * *

A few minutes away, it could sense them. The android strafed around the trees, taking note of the hunters? positions. It knew that leaving corpses in plain view would make them follow the trail. According to its data, the two were named Elvendar and King Canin, registered newbies from the hunters? guild, and it was sure it could destroy them easily.

"Excuse me, mister Tracon?" A rather young hunter prodded.
The android turned around and looked at the hunter and stopped sneaking around. "Yes, Ash?"
"I'm sorry... but..."
?...But what?? Tracons eyes started to glow red.
"This... has gone too far. I don't like the idea of killing hunters for their equipment, even if the clan master says so." Ash frowned.
Tracon glared at Ash. "Do you want acceptance into the clan, or not? This is what we do. This is how we survive in the underworld of the hunter clans.?
Ash sighed, and nodded.

* * *

Elvendar and Canin continued walking, following a trail of dropped items that seemed to have come from the slain hunters. The items weren't really of any use, just pendants, energy cells, etcetera. The trail had led into a darker part of the forest that didn't seem to show up on the radar, and it was very noticeable that Canin was afraid of dark places. His eyes grew big with fear as Elvendar entered the forest cautiously, and then he stuck close to her as the ventured into the unknown.

She heard a noise. What was it? It sounded like a dull hum, that of some sort of energy. "Photon Energy?" She wondered out loud. Before she could investigate, an android and a human hunter stepped out. "We -"Tracon proclaimed, "will destroy you!"

Chapter IV
The End of Ash

"Prepare to die, weaklings." The dull black andoid stated, his large scythe humming with photon energy. The scythe, while seemingly not as powerful as the fabled 'Soul Banish' scythe carried by powerful mercenaries, eminated a deadly aura nonetheless. The green photon filled it's blade, and the weapon was prepared to eat some souls.

Elvendar looked at the robot and smiled. "If it's a fight you want, you've got one!" she said, readying her partisan. Canin pulled out his cane, though neither of the two fighters seemed to pay any attention to him. Ash pointed at Canin. "You'll be fighting me, force!" Canin simply replied, "Sure, why not." and shrugged.

Elvendar started off the fight, dragging her partisan on the short dash up to her opponent. Upon reaching him, she pulled her partisan in an upward slash, which was easily blocked by the veteran hunter. "You'll have to do better than that, girl!" He yelled, and took an offensive stance, swinging the mighty scythe easily. Elvendar hopped back, avoiding the blow, then stabbed forward at the android's exposed chest. The blow hit the side of his abdomen, but did no real damage; she only managed to scratch his plating with the photon blade. The andoid backed up a bit.
"Well, aren't you a talented girl?" he asked rhetorically, waving the photon partisan about.
"Why are you doing this?" Elvendar asked between breaths..
"For the glory of Iwa No Kuni! I, Tracon, shall help our village rise to take over Pioneer two!"
"Are you telling me you've been living in a village from pioneer one? ...Madness!"she spat. She gripped her partisan tightly and came in for a slash sideways, which was quickly blocked. Tracon smiled. She brought the partisan around over her head, slicing downwards with tremendous force. Tracon expected the blow, locked weapons, and disarmed her. He brought the scythe blade up, poised to strike at her head. "Any last words?" He grinned.

* * *

Canin, as usual, wasn't doing so good. Ash's saber blocked every strike Canin tried to get in with his cane (quite easily) - while Canin had taken two saber wounds to his right arm. Ash charged in for a jab with his saber, which Canin avoided. Ash wasn't nearly the fighter that Tracon seemed to be. Canin, deciding that he wanted to end this and help his companion, threw his cane at his opponent. Ash ducked, then looked at his foe with a puzzled look on his face; Foie fireball hitting dead on. Ash had managed to bring his barrier up in time to meet the second projectile, but the ball exploded on his shield and sizzled parts of his skin.

Although he was wounded, Ash saw his opening. Unarmed, spellcasting forced Canin to make quite an awkward stance - leaving his abdomen open to be run-though. Ash quickly took advantage of this, sliding the blade through Canin's abdomen easily. With a wide open eyes, Canin held his near-fatal wound tightly, anger and pain lighting up in his eyes. Ash sadly didn't see Canin's mag, fully charged with photon energy.

* * *

The blast made Tracon fall on his back. Ash flew a few feet, his smoking corse hitting the soft cool ground. Tracon's situation allowed Elvendar to run and grab her partisan up again. Tracon got up and turned off his powerful scythe. "It seems... that I am beaten, for now." Tracon panted. "Train. Become stronger for me, hunter girl."

Tracon picked up the smoldering corpse of his comrade and dissapeared into the forest. Neither Elvendar nor Canin really cared that he got away. Tracon was clearly a combat machine, and they knew they'd need more than luck to deal with a threat like that again.

Chapter V
Reboot

Two long months with Canin. His stupidity echoed in Elvendar's head. She had been through the forest, Killed a dragon, and was halfway through caves with him. "Please... let it end." she mumbled to herself, as Canin continued to lecture about the different types of peanut butter available from Ragol. She walked through the room, over the fresh corpses left by other hunters. Canin started to forage for shark teeth.

"Hey look, the ones in the mouth of the yellow sharks are sharper!" Canin tried to explain, but Elvendar ignored him. She was consumed on how to turn off the photon fence. It seemed to have no switch whatsoever, and there was no obvious way of getting through. "Well, maybe i'll just break it down!" she huffed in frustration, switching on the photon blade of her partisan. She heaved the mighty weapon down onto one of the fence posts, severing it cleanly in half. Canin looked over at Elvendar dumbly, with his hand in the Guil Shark's mouth. "The switch is under that box, Elvie" he informed her, as the reviving Guil Shark chomped down on his hand.

* * *

Elvendar looked over casually as Canin howled in pain, and smirked. She jogged towards him, and a strong slap of her partisan against it's face made the thing go unconscious. She whirled the partisan around, and stabbed downwards into the beast's chest, slaying it with a gurgle of blood. Canin looked at his bloodied hand. The muscles and tendons had been completely torn by the shark's teeth; the hand lay limp and gushed a blood. Canin, frozen in fear, was unable to speak.

As Elvendar took out the medipack, something shifted out of the shadows behind her. Swiftly igniting a violet scythe, the creature took it's aim, and sliced Canin cleanly in two, a blow faster than the shocked Elvendar could react to. Canin would be unable to be revived this time, his body nearly all destroyed. Sadly, his final thoughts were of peanut butter, shark teeth, and his wounded hand.

The creature chuckled, then turned it's it's maniacal expression into one of disgust. "What a weaking. I should have taken care of him in our last battle." he spat. Elvendar looked up at it. It appeared to be a HUcast, wielding no other weapon than a soul eater, and looking remarkably familiar. She looked at him, slightly puzzled.

"Have you forgotten me allready, warrior girl? It is I, Tracon." he waved his scythe, smirking. "And now is your time to die." He brought his massive 'Soul Eater' around in a great arc, aiming to slice through her torso. She held her partisan's hilt up to block gracefully, yet ineffctively. The photon blade sliced through the center of her partisan and through her torso, severing her cleanly in two.

* * *

Beep... Beep...

(Bright lights. Where am I? Was that all a dream? I can't feel anything. Why can't I move? What happened to Tracon? I feel tired. Maybe things will make more sense when I sleep. Sleep sounds good. Sleep...)

End note: okay, I know that was a cheesy chapter, but it's what needed to be done for plot development. Stay tuned for chapter 6!

Chapter VI
The Black Goddess Rises

"She's coming to. Her vitals are stabilizing." Said an unfamiliar voice lingering above her.

"What happened?" She thought. The doctor helped her to sit up.

"You've been out cold for about two weeks now. You were hacked to pieces when a hunter brought you in. A young scientist and doctor named Helena helped restore you.

Her vision cleared. She looked at herself. "My hands... they're... metallic?" She wondered, moving her arms about and looking at her new body.

"A living alloy I created." Stated another voice behind the doctor. "I am Helena Orachi, apprentice studying the great Dr. Montague's works. I've found a system to recreate the body of a humanoid into an android using... well, you don't need the specifics. Happy to have you with us."

Elvendar got off the bed slowly, and moved her body around to see what she can do. Her body was completely anatomically correct, and her movement range was the same as it had been when she was a newman. Helena moved beside her and took her arm. "Let's go get you colored up!" she said happily, and walked her down the hall to another room.

* * *

It had been a couple days since she had been out of the hospital on her own. It was hard for Elvendar to fully get used to being an android- she missed her soft skin, and her ability to sense things normally. She had not yet even picked up any sort of weapon, nor did she have any intention of going to check in with the hunter's guild. These days seemed peaceful to her. Little did she know, things around her were about to get a little less quiet.
