a lot of people probably know about the beat-time system. but for those who don't, i wanna share this info with the rest of you. i'm just doing this for the heck of it and to help those in need...umm...okay. you guys will need some math to do this one.

anyways, here's how it goes (get a calculator ready):

let...
'a' = current hour (24-hour time), EX. 6:00pm = 18 hours
'b' = current minute
'c' = current seconds
'd' = elapsed seconds within 24-hour time period (24 hours = 86400 seconds)

now the first calculation...

equation:
(a x 3600) + (b x 60) + c = d

second equation:
d / 86.4 = 'current beat time' (round off)

a beat is equal to 1 minute and 26.4 seconds

well...i hope this info will help some of you.
anyways...

p.s. for exact info on "beat time", go to http://www.swatch.com. at the top of the new page, you'll see your current standard time as well as the current beat time.

LOL, I did all that in my head (with out rounding) one day just to see how long a .beat was. The problem is, if you try this to convert your time into .beats, you'll notice yer missing steps...
Ok, we just used this formula to figure out how many beats past 12am in your own time zone it is. Of course since .beats is universal, how many beats in your own time zone doesn't help one bit... First you need to find out what your base time in .beats are. Do this by going to swatch and converting 0 beats to the current time in your timezone. Obviously, after you know this, you can use the shortcut mentally that 500 beats is the same time but am instead of pm (or vice versa).
Once you know that, you're set...at least for the most case. Don't forget about daylight savings time and standard time (this had me stumped for a while, I was like, "argh, why's the same time next month different, *must... control... fist... of... death...*"). Well, for these, when we jump ahead an hour, just take out 42 beats, and when we go back to normal, add those 42 beats back.

Now here a couple basic bases(currently, remember to subtract 42 beats in a lil bit):
0 .beats 500 .beats
Pacific Coast 15:00 3:00
East Coast 18:00 6:00
Honolulu 13:00 1:00
Paris 0:00 12:00
Cairo 0:59 12:59 (weird..)
Hong Kong 7:00 19:00
Tokyo 8:00 20:00
Sydney 9:00 21:00
Rio de Janeiro 20:00 8:00

I predict the formatting of this will suck...
