View Full Version : Did anyone with Network Adapter use a Proxy instead of ICS?
Instead of Internet Connection Sharing, did anyone use a Proxy that worked, and if so, what one?
You see, I have regular Windows 98 and that might be the way to fix the problem I have. How did you get it to work?
Oh, and if anyone can, get Tavia to call more attention to this board. It shouldn't be this dead, lots of people are floundering here.
Sorry if that was harsh.
DANKE!
BUMP or whatever.
Please help.

I have Windows 95, so I can't use ICS.
I use WinRoute Lite, and it works wonders.
Oh please elaborate..

> Where?
Um, on my computer? Not sure what you mean there.
> How?
Setup's like this:
I have an internal ASDL modem that connects to the net. I put in an Ethernet card. Then I used a RJ45 Crossover cable to connect it to my GameCube BBA.
On WinRoute Lite, in the Settings tab, I entered my login details. I'm not sure if it matters, but in the Advanced Settings, I unchecked the DHCP and DNS proxy settings.
Now you have to go to the settings on your network card. Go to the "IP Address" tab, and choose to specify an IP. Enter this:
IP Address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
In the network settings on your GameCube, choose to manually set up the connection. On the screen that appears, input this:
IP Address: 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Then it also asks you for the DNS numbers. When your PC is online, use the program WINIPCFG located somewhere on your hard drive, and write down the two DNS numbers, usually something like xxx.xxx.xxx.1 and xxx.xxx.xxx.2
Enter those on your GameCube too.
You should be ready to go now. Leave the other options empty.
So whenever you want to play, start WinRoute Lite, click Start Engine, and then Dial(you only have to click Dial if you aren't already connected to the net). Have fun!
How much?
There is a Trial version of 30 days. After that, it will refuse to connect. The program itself isn't easily found anymore either. You can download it on P2P software. If you want to get the serial number, use P2P as well. The program is way to expensive.
How easy?
Pretty easy. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif At least, if you know how to do it.
