Thought I derailed the rapper thread enough. . . so I though I'd rant about this. . . plague.

Every-fucking-where I go on the net, all I see is people with names like "Tashurouni" or "Tsurumashu-chan" or some borscht shit like that.

Then theres like, half the people on the net (90% on here) with a damn anime sig, (I'm still counting them by the way, 34 so far) or some obscure Japenese word they heard on the latest anime their mom bought them, and decided it was cool to put in their location field, or mood.

Ahhh yes, then comes the people who blow their entire paychecks on that special edition subbed-dubbed whatever the fuck you people watch, 7 DVD boxset.

"omg I just bought the latest episodes of .Idontgiveafuck, it's so kawaiiii ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ "

Then you got the people obssesed with the word, kawaii, and chibi. (ignore the avatar, I won it or whatever)

"oh, FOnewearls are so kawaii! SO CUTE AND CHIBI1111!!1"

You don't look fucking cool spewing random japenese words.

Then comes the semi core of all this, people obssesed with J pop or J rock, whatever.

"Ewww american music, you should listen to Suri-no-I sing like a cow with bronchitis, shes so kawaii!"

(that word never ends)

Seriously, stop being fucking sheep, and spending your lunch money on the latest anime everyones buying, making your screen name something you heard from Cowboy bepop or something.

Am I saying theres something wrong with the culture? No.

But it's wrong when FUCKING HALF THE DAMN PEOPLE ON HERE AND THE INTERNET OVERUSE ANYTHING INVOLING JAPENESE WORDS AND CULTURE

Personally, I think you're scared the Japanese culture will affect the US (or wherever you live) and dramatically change it forever where you'll go into a cafe and Hello Kitty people will serve you food.

Seriously, I don't mind too much... most of the time. It does start grating when as you mentioned, people use anime names. There's enough SuperSaiyajin32987238GOKOU around, thank you very much. o_o

haha i knew one o these days this was gonna happen. so japanese stuff is a lil overused, it doesnt bother me too bad i guess. thankfully people seem to be done with the supersayangoku/vegeta or watever names. lord was that ***. anyways, i happen to like certain undubbed animes, but i do agree people are becomin a lil obsessed with the sayings and such. tho maybe its just cross-culture influence. wat did the indians say wen the british came over? hmm maybe thats two differnt cases tho.regardless, i just live with it and eat more cheesecurls. yes, tis cheesecurls that makes things better...mmmmm

Most people are sheep when it comes to anything Japanese culture (mainly anime), but I see no problems in this if people are actually interested in the culture-not just following the crowd.

What about those of us who're obsessed with Tuvan culture? Who would put up a "My Yurt" sign infront of their house... even though their house is most certainly not a Yurt. And what do you say to those of us who walk around throat-singing, and when you walk off you let out a loud "Shude!" and attempt to ride an imaginary horse onward!

I may never have never said "Kawaii" in my life. But I'll gladly put "Feynman Lives" bumper stickers on anything with a flat surface. And I'm considering a huge graffiti project in which I spray-paint the Tuvan flag on the side of my old school.

What do you have against people like me?

And my opinions on those lil japanese wannabe who run around with all their anime gear, and their three words of spoken japanese that they use constantly... Just glad I'm not one of them... and I say it's all Cartoon Network's fault.

Please note the following.

- Watching anime does not make you Japanese.
- Writing a few kanji characters does not make you Japanese.
- Visiting Japan does not make you Japanese.

In fact, there are only two ways to become Japanese:

1. Have a Japanese mother.
2. Have a Japanese father.

Although I in other cultures people get pissed at people trying to act "American"

Other things that irk me? People w/ the Chinese character for "Water" or what's worse is "Ai" (ask lolita what that means http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif) on their shirt or anywhere tattooed on themselves.

Well, I'm 1/4 Asain..but I don't think I'm special cause of that. And naturally I favor the Japanese cultur..it's in me blood yup yup -_-. Just not fair that I can't understand thier language. JP players are so cool. Btw, the topic starters post made me LAUGH SO HARD.

It's so true..it annoys me alittle but hey. It's something they've been introduced to, so let them assymulate it into thier personality I say.

I feel that anime is becoming more mainstream now, and thus, creating all these people that Balthor seems to hate. But what does it matter? Maybe in 10 years it'll all be "underground" again and only people in the know will be watching anime.

I could not agree with you more. This has always bugged me, and finally someone brings this to light in a broader sense.

It is ok to like and practice this facet of the Japanese culture, but it seems as though people jump on the bandwagon and obsess over the trend of using japanese anime/vocabulary and tie it into internet usage like both were meant for each other. It's not necessarily everywhere you go, but when the website has anything to do with videogaming, the Japanese culture seems to follow (since both are very popular in Japan this is no surprise). This has been drastically bad for gaming, and I think is a main focal point to why videogames are still targeted as "kiddie" fair and the majority of the American population label this form of entertainment in being immature, even though it is a ignorant misconception.

I know this person who goes to Japan every 6 months, has taught themselves Japanese out of textbooks, watches anime more than western entertainment, only plays Japanese games, has Japanese avatar names and inserts Japanese into their dialogue (usually because their brain can't drag up the English one half as quickly as it used to). I'm not kidding.

This person is me. This person is also employed as a freelance journalist on UK videogames magazines, and has had to date two translation projects for japanese games released in the west.

I'm not fat, not a sad teenage hentai fan, I'm a fairly attractive woman in my 20s. I live off my hobby, hell my hobby feeds me, and it takes me to places other people can only dream of going to. I wouldn't call this sad, I'd call it wonderfully enlightened.

There are true Otakus like myself surfing the internet. But then there is also the 'wannabe' group. I, myself find their culture interesting, like one of their holidays called Sakura Week (Cherry Blossom Week) at this time, no school.

Anyways, the wannabes are the ones that overuse words such as 'BAKA (stupid), CHIBI(little), KAWAII(cute)' notice its usually those three words? dont they know how to say shit? (kuso) and it takes them a while to realise baka also means idiot, jerk and fool. But then they get confused with the word yuru which doesnt really exist, and they will be saying it means idiot. uhhh .. HELLO?!? the word doesn't exist! I think you mean bakayaro (asshole).

Not only that, they easily get obsessed over an anime which was meant for little kids, such as hamtaro, pokemon (pocket monsters), and more. And yea, buys them too.

I only buy something that is worth watching again like Excel Saga, now thats my type of humor! or a manga as halarious as Pretty Face, which is about a guy that has gotten in a car accident. the Plastic Surgeon doesn't know how he looks like, but finds a picture of a girl he likes in his pocket and now he looks exactly like her, and the plastic surgeon thought ahead with the .. uh . chest. And I'll stop there with that.

I never really liked the anime produced by Broccli, its too kiddie. Clamp was pretty kool with Card Captor Sakura, and Chobits. Rumiko Takahashi was kool with Inuyasha.

Other anime shows such as Onegai Teacher, I My Me Strawberry Eggs, just sucked as hell!

I was into anime when I was a teenager in high school, but I am less into now. I will still watch, just not as much. As for hentai, well, it is just funny with the translations and all...especially when dubbed (some are just that ridiculous...Bible Black sounded like it acted by homeless people off the street).

yo u dont know wanna be anime character freaks tell uve been to my school ,theres actually and anime club at my school, i live in miami its highly poplutaed with rappers ( like me) so in my school ,sorry to say ,that the 20 peeps who are rockers are the freaks or dorks but anyway i like anime u know but not to the point were i jackoff to fake brests! but anyway freashmen year i joined that club when i got in there i saw it all, all the dorks the crazy rocker peeps with spikes comin out of there neck and the dumb ass guys who need to give out there credit card number to talk to girls and yes they said all the words "kawaii" "baka" "chubaka" all that shit, next day i quit that club and stuck to my breakdanceing club where there was girls watchin us break and me and buddys swappin moves and having fun but in that anime club there so like freakin.........gay i mean they were watchin this movie ( kite i think it was) and well the moderator of the club (legendary history teacher MR.Mendive lol) he tells them when theres like nudity and shit to cover the screen with a jacket they have(this is a catholic private high school) but he was ok with bad words and gore and crap well came a time in the movie where these people fuck and shit and well the guy(with no life) who owned the movie and brought it and memorised all the parts covered the screen right before the scene with the fucking,then all of those losers tart saying,"awwwman come on" &" oh man that so freakin hot" and me and mr.mendive in the back of the class just shakeing our heads on how sad it was for them to be saying" come on i wanna see boobies!" i mean Mr.mendive actualy told me i was the only normal kid in there! heres another thing ,school newspaper came in the mail couple weeks ago and it showed a small article on the anime clubs trip to an anime convention and a picture of all of them ,they all looked like freaks 1 dressed up as that ranma fag with his hand behind his head ( that head scratchin thing that goku does when hes dumb!! YES THAT) then some busted girl with like cat paws ,1 fat ass dressed like neo ( neo cannot be that fat!!!) all the costumes you can think of!! freakin water drops next to there head and bubbles coming out of there nose when they sleep! and freakin falling face 1st with there legs in the air ( like when someone says something dumb)THESE PEOPLE HAVE ISSUES, if i can find the paper ill scan the image..

I find it funny when people refer to themselves as "chan"... From what I understand, that suffix is one commonly given to children and pets, and generally used as one of affection... and is utterly idiotic to use in your OWN name. You don't introduce yourself as "Mister", for example...

Another thing: otaku. Yeah, another word I barely understand, but from what I've read, an otaku in Japan is usually someone with an obsession for something like games, anime or manga... Someone that spends almost every bit of their life with their hobbies. One more thing I find funny: When people add an S to the end of a Japanese word to make it plural. Like "samurais". That one always gets me, so hysterically funny to me. I think I even remember hearing it in the one GODAWFUL dubbed episode of Kenshin I saw.

I love anime. I love Japanese culture. But then, there are people who go too far. Yes, Japanese culture has affected us here a lot. Not just with anime, but with business. If you go far into business, you will realize what I mean. Those "total quality circles" are really awesome.

I will admit, I occasionally use Japanese terms in real life, but honestly, I don't think it is anything out of the ordinary, because I think I use just as much spanish (I love Mexican culture too). That sentence was long. Anyhow, I have never used the term Kawaii until this sentence. Maybe an occasional Gambatte or "Cakie ga sugi desu" on my birthday, but I think I use more Bueno or No (that was a joke... you can laugh now). But not near chef, or any other Japanese person, 'cause I could embarass myself. I really do want to learn though. And spanish. Woo!

I like j-pop, k-pop, anime, and stuff like that most likely because i am asian.I do have to agree with you though. sometimes people take it too far by changing their names. i found out that someone actually changed their name to Duo Maxwell. I gave my opinion about the Japanese culture earilier in this post,but I think it is time I express my opinion about "Otakus". I know that there are alot of people here that like the Japanese culture (I am one of them) they like to watch anime and maybe tried to learn some Japanese. Some of these people even use Japanese names on the internet. A few of them actually goto Japan (some more than others). These are not "Otakus". Otakus are the people that go around saying maybe 6 or 7 words and phrases in Japanese and bragging about how much Japanese they know.

Among these phrases are usually the words "baka" "kawaii" "chibi"and the suffixes "kun" "sama" "chan" "san". These are also the people bragging about their anime/hentai collections and talking about how they are moving to Japan so they can watch anime all day. They usually know little or nothing about the Japanese themselves. Many of the constantly boast about there Asian girlfriend/boyfriend. Does it really matter what reac he/she is? As long as she/he loves you what does it matter.

People like "Otakus" give us fans of the Japanese culture (like myself) a bad name. "Otakus" are also the ones responsible for the butchering of the Japanese culture.

Now while I'm not obsessed with anime and Japanese games, my friend is. He blows practically his entire paycheck on anime everytime he gets paid and is like a walking anime encyclopedia. I really really hate it when he starts droning on and on about some anime he just saw. It goes in one ear and right out the other. And then he'll buy a game like Xenosaga and spend an hour telling me the plot (guess why I haven't played that game yet? :-/). He never does that with games that are of non-Japanese origin because he doesn't buy them! And yes, he wants to go Japan too.

Maybe we should just embrace the fact that our country's culture is mixing with that of another. I don't know if this is 100% correct, but as I recall western products are popular amongst japanese teens. So what if we have a few annoying Otaku's, on the other we have some people who will help close the bridge between our cultures, people who bother to learn japanese and appriciate the japanese as well as their culture.

Japan is not a race. Japan is a country, one that I would not like to live in either. Like Ness said earlier, they economy is terrible.

I simply would like to defend myself here.
First, yes I used to watch loads of anime, but I was never really obsessed with any of it. I still watch it from time to time, but it's certainly not my life. I never spent an entire paycheck getting a box set or anything as exorbitant as that. Even at the height of my interest, that seemed a little nuts to me.
I do not go around spouting kawaii and chibi and baka like that's all the Japanese language consists of. I say much more interesting things like full sentences and paragraphs and they rarely have those words in them. I teach myself aside from taking classes (which are language AND culture classes). I do this because I find the history and modern culture fascinating and exciting and I think the language is beautiful.
And yes, I listen to JRock. I happen to love it. It helps me pick up the language more quickly and there are some insanely talented musicians in Japan. I love the theatrics of Visual Rock, which isn't something that you see here in America. The bands are more exciting to watch because their lives are like elaborate stage productions with costuming and makeup and sometimes even skits. I find that immensely appealing. It doesn't mean I think American music is crap or that I don't listen to any of it anymore, it just means I prefer the Japanese style of music. And it isn't because I'm following anyone or any trend there may be. I discovered anime all on my own. I discovered JRock all on my own. I think it's highly unfair of you to lump everyone into one category. Yes, there are people who do the things you ranted about, but there are also those of us who truly love the country and the culture and it has nothing to do with anime or JRock/JPop. We do not deserve to get the same treatment as the wannabes.

Alsio America is the most high tech contry here. Japan surpasses in electronics only because they can make them cheaper, but that is more about labor laws than technology. They do make better cars than us though. Also ytour list of things they make is more cutlural than technological. We would have bullet trains here too, but we get around in cars just fine. You would be screwed if you tried to drvie somewhere in Japan.

They usually know little or nothing about the Japanese themselves. Many of the constantly boast about there Asian girlfriend/boyfriend. Does it really matter what reac he/she is? As long as she/he loves you what does it matter.

People like "Otakus" give us fans of the Japanese culture (like myself) a bad name. "Otakus" are also the ones responsible for the butchering of the Japanese culture.
