I have not read into this, but most of my friends have an xbox and do not have a gamecube. Is it possible to transfer my items and equipment to xbox pso so i can play with my friends and not lose my items?

there isnt a way. cause xbox and GC are on different servers

This is one of those things that Sega just overlooked and kinda screwed a lot of people by doind it this way. If they would have set it up so that they all connected to a central network of servers then you could quite possibly do that, but since the GC has a network of it's own and Xbox has "Xbox live" your chances are limited to asking Sega nicely many times or hacking the crap out of your game. Both ways are very unlikely to work.
