View Full Version : Internet lingo makes no sense.

'Pwnz'? What the heck is that? Is it me or is some of this lingo making no sense?

Another word (or series of numbers) which makes no sense is '1337'. I learned from someone that this means 'elite', and he then started calling me a 'noob'.

I know what noob means of course (why not just spell newbie though?), but I can't really see the connection between 1337 and elite.

Why am I accused of being a newbie for not knowing a word which is so indecipherable? I'm sorry for being such an internet freak, who can't speak much else than English, but some of these phrases are so pathetic it makes you want to hit whoever coined the phrase over the head with a concrete rappy wing.

Oh and 'owned'. Come on, no one owns another individual on here, shut up for once you internet linguist braindead b******s. It's not a cattle market for god's sake.

internet lingo is mainly using numbers in place of letter to make it seem "cool". btw its n00b, not noob. which is shorter to spell than newbie.. usually an insult. other times the lingo is to supress bad words, such as you cant say "whore" in certain places. so some use the world "whor3" the 3 is for a backwards e.. lingo is just for people to act cool.. its not really associated with words such as lol, brb, ttyl, ect. but just ignore it if it bugs you. its not really that big of a deal.

on a note of forgetfulness, pwnz is short for ownage or owns. for example, like you just kicked a guys ass in battle mode, so you say, i owned you, or you got owned. while others just say, ownage or i pwnz you. ect. hopefully you get the point now.

on yet another edited note, the word 1337 and elite, turn the '1337' upside down it lookes like 'leet', as in e-leet.. get it?

another edited note, i need more sleep, i cant spell for crap today.

actualy, haha, some guy that played tfc took normal windows font, and remade it into 1337 font.. as in you would type in e, but it would come up a 3, and o would be a p for pwnz ect. it was kinda cool, but got old quick, i think you can download it at customtfc.uk but its for tfc.. not pso

Translation: Your computer reads binary as ON and OFF, causing formations of codes, symbols and programs... I think.

(or, in english.)

I had more to say, but, eight bits to the byte is excessive.

that proves a point, doesn't it.
that's in ASCII, with each byte spaced. without spaces, a four letter word would look like this...

01101110001100000011000001100010 (for example, is n00b)

when the 1337 speak in the 0's and 1's i will be impressed. few will be able to understand them then.

now that will be interesting

on a side note id rather just spell n00b than a bunch of 1's and 0's. or nub.. its shorter
