View Full Version : A new approach to PSO

A buddy and me discovered a rather amusing approach to pso. When you start a game deposit all your weapons, go down for the forest or what have you unarmed. Then as you play through the game you can only use the weapons you find, weather they be rare or not. I dont play like this all the time but its great when your just looking for a change. Try it out, let me know what you think http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

i personally just enjoy the challenge of going completely unequipped (no mag, no armor, no units, no barrier, no weapon, no nothin!) It makes you appreciate your MAG a whole lot more when you realize how weak you are without it. But your idea is pretty cool too, you're still without your best weapons that you know and love so it is a little more challenging. whatever...to each his own.

Sounds pretty fun. I've never played it, but isn't this what challenge mode is like?

I play solo offline- But I like this idea. I can't do challege mode (I'll never get my Crazy Tune...). But this sounds cool for some nice exp... Now when I can do this on Very Hard... it'll be nice...

Hey! I don't even bother bringing a weapon into Ultimate ruins with my FOnewm. I need to cast those techs QUICK! So I guess I'm in favor of the idea...

I like the idea of going completely unequipped, but I think a MAG is something of your character, so I would think it would be fine to leave that. However, I do think it would be quite interesting to try without it, you would come to appreciate it more.

i met a HUcast online when the game was first released in england... well... about two, maybe three days later, who had a mag that hadn't been fed WHAT SO EVER. so in a way, your reliance on your mag is something you believe to be vital to your character.

My friend called =] goes around in hard mode with a plain mag equiped, it seems sorta mega super ultra legit person.

Ok, I modded the rules abit for mine. I played in VHard mode, and found it to be refreshing to the normallity. (And I gained two levels, as well!)
In addition to whats been stated (No Equipment, No Items) I also did:
1) No Techs until a "sample disk" was found. Meaning, I didn't use my HUmars resta until I found the resta disk, and relied completely on mates until then.
2) No Mag. I agree, the mag is part of your character. But mine gives me 314 ATP. Wheres the challenge then?
3) No grinders. I used what I found, and only that. But I also found 4 trigrinders which I didn't use. I know it's small and it's nothing, but I wanted to keep it minimal.

This is what challenge mode is for. And you even get a nice S rank at the end. Kind of a lame idea.

The last time i played like this i deposited everything but my 4 slotted armor ... i brought down a mag i just started to raise (lvl 15) ... when you play that way the once were puny drops become a lot more important http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

The difference between this an challenge mode is you arent timed and you dont play as a lvl one character. I personally enjoy this a lot better then challenge mode

I remember during the DC days, somebody here hosted a game like that. I believe it was Iceblink. He hosted a game(s) where you could only use what you found (no matter what level u were).

Remember, I can't play challenge mode.
I'm offline.
Solo.
And this has given me a new look on PSO (Almost like a sport, comparitively).
And I'm leveling up, fast. 3 levels in the past few hours with time off to eat lunch, run three miles, and shower and get cleaned up.
This is fun. And I'm not stressed over "Wheres the force?!? Our time is already over 30 minutes!"

I love the idea, I always look for variations on games I play.

I was surprised to see how fast the idea caught when i first set it up. I started the game then left after the dragon boss. I came back some time later (they were in the ruins) and once i entered they started telling me the rules to the game http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

i love the diea, i might try it when my friedns get to lv 100 and then go to either Ult. Forest or V.Hard and try that, but then we would be more "item greedy"

Want another challenge? Try playing through the regular game on Battle Mode with 3 other people. Suddenly the ideas of a high level FO blasting everything in sight with Techs and an RA with a Spread Needle pinning down everything infront of him/her aren't so good.

A tad more realistic, and hard as hell. It takes serious teamwork.

Me and a friend did that..but he didn't know about it. We went down in Caves and whenever a Shark was about to hit him I would hit him so he died in 1 hit but it looked like the shark did it.

hehe, ive done it before, infact i do it all the time
except it doesnt even bother me, cause im a force (fonewearl to be exact) and where i cant go melee, especially in ultimate, also i completely rely on my techs, and when thats what does my damage, it doesnt really matter if i go un-armed or not
however, i do have 3 hunters, in which if i get bored with them, i do this http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
i think its a fun idea http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

That's right, I remember being a part of a few of those. I believe we called it "Cave Man Rules" back then. =)

It was fun then, and it's still fun now. =)

i find that this is too similar to challenge mode for my liking (i really suck at challenge mode, and im racing the clock and myself basically for a chameleon scythe...so...challenge mode is not big for me...). I still like my idea of totally unarmed including MAG armor etcetera...not only is it extremely challenging (try it in Ulti...) but its like...a spiritual thing, im a lot closer with my MAG now! even though some might see it's stats as 'imperfect' (Sato 17/26/66/91 ) i think he's perfect for me!

but still, this is a great thread! people are giving variations that make the game more fun once you get tired of the endless repetition...and anything that makes the game more fun is good!

ooh...we should make a new thread, and have each person post a variation of the game on it with the rules and everything! it would be really interesting to see all the ideas people have! somebody do that im too lazy lol!

ive got a good idea for pso to. see when u get the crap beaten out of u by dfalz or anyone who killz u repeatedly u quit and go to forest 1 on normal and play the fake in yellow quest with all your items. then kill rappies till your anger is gone! if this doesnt work, go get help.
