View Full Version : Bored with PSO yet??

I dont know about most ppl, but i've played about 250 hours, and i'm bored with the game already. Character development is too linear, and they lack class specific skills/techniques...you're either a force, hunter, or ranger. I mean in diablo 2, an amazon could be a javazon, or bowazon, or even a tankazon....a sorceress could be fire, ice, or lighting, and etc. and they had their own class specific skills .you raised certain stats according to the type of character u were. But then again, maybe its just me.

ok i'm sure anyone who's a member on this forum likes the game, and are currently playing. Maybe some ppl got the wrong message when i started this topic...and now ppl think i'm bashing pso, i'm not...if i didnt like pso, i wouldnt have bought it, and i certainly wouldn't have played over 200 hours on it. the difference between pso and d2 was character development. that was the only reason why ppl could play d2 for 2-3 years.

i think you misunderstood of what i was trying say.
for example, as a force, you can learn max level of every technique. in d2 and a lot of other games, it was more challenging because you cant max out all your spells, you can only focus on a few, and you'd have to make a choice.

I know the chars don't have as much depth as the D2 chars, in terms of learning skills. I'm not griping about it. But if you really wanted to make variant chars you can do the same on PSO. You can make a lightning force, fire force, cold force. I have a force that's all about destruction, her names Ter Ra, I'm hoping to equip an Inferno Bazooka, and any other weapon besides force weapons. You can make a force that uses a sword (rather a saber), a sage (that's his name too); I have a character like this. You can make a ranger just use only a certain type of gun (i.e. only handguns or rifles); I have characters that do this. I have hunters that only use certain weapons. I have hucast and hucaseals that you just daggers. I have a hucast that just uses fist weapons (i.e. knuckles). You can make whatever variant possible in this game. Yes, the variants likely don't have the depth that of D2, but it is a different twist on the game.

Whenever I get bored with a game, I take a break from it, and usually play something else. But a game like PSO, I always seem to come back.

I did play D2 for 2 years. I was pretty addictive as well. So addictive, I know I've made over 200 chars on it; 75% being mules. Damn was that tedious to mule things; a mule for every type of item category. But I've played PSO about the same amount, and probably more.

In Diablo, there are 3 character classes. Same in it's expansion.
In Diablo 2, there is 5 character classes. There's 7 in it's expansion.
In PSO ver 1&2, there are 9 character classes. Split up in three groups.
In PSO ep 1&2 there are 12 character classes. Split up in three groups.
PSO has more variants of characters, instead of being more "choose your way" with one character.

A Force can either go on all-out techs, or melee.
A Ranger-human can go long-range with support techs, or use melee with those techs.
A Ranger Android doesn't have techs, but can still melee.
A Hunter can either Melee, long range or tech.

Even though there were more possibilities in D2 with 3-4 variants per class, they required planning to work, otherwise the character would become junk.

Currently PSO Episodes 1&2 is the only game that I am playing, heck it is the only thing that I have been doing in my spare time ( besides coming to this website ) so as of right now I am not fed up with PSO. I do however admit that everynow and again things can beome stale and repetitve, especially when you are looking for certain rares and you are not finding anything or when your character is not leveling up as fast as you want it to. I am fortuate in that I got my GC copy of PSO at the same time I got Metroid Prime and Skies of Arcadia Legend. I took 2 breaks from PSO to complete Metroid Prime and Zelda Wind Waker so that helped break up the monotany, if I get board again I will just work on Skies of Arcadia Legend for the GC, Wild Arms 3 for the PS2 or any of the numerous GBA rpg's that I have on the backburner. That's one of the good things about PSO you can put it down for months and then you can come back to it and pick up right where you left off, you can't do that with any other game because you would have forgotten where you were and what you were supposed to do.

I've put about 500 hours total into PSO. I played it to death when I first got the DC version, then put it up for a few months. I busted it out a few more times and played the crap out of it some more. I've never put it up for mone than 2 or 3 months at a time, and I've never stopped playing until I've gotten a new character through the entire game on all difficulties offline. Now I'm playing the Xbox version and I don't see myself getting sick of it anytime soon, especially since I've never gotten to play it online before. The game itself can be redundant at times, but getting new weapons and meeting new people keep me coming back.

You got bored of PSO!!! Weel I spose single player can be a bit repeative, but hey I still slog it coz its so addictive and rewarding! I'd say give it another go try train up like 3 chars at a time or sumthing or try multi player split screen it rocks! OMG Episode 2 rocks!!!

It can get boring after awhile, but in the long run it is a fun game all together if you you're into the longevity of it and developing your character. Heck, I've stayed a PSO fan since Phantasy Star 1-4 on Sega...now those games rocked!!!

You're already bored after 250 hours? That seems like a lot to me. How many games do you put 250 hours into?

In Daiblo 2, you could make different kids of characters in each class (Bowazon, Tankazon etc....), but the same can be done in PSO. A HUcast is vastly different than a HUmarl. A FOnewm is vastly different than a FOmar.

I loved Diablo (put in over 2000 hours) and liked Diablo 2 a whole lot (put in about 500 hours), but PSO is AT LEAST in the same league as they are in terms of addiction and time spent. 250 invested into a videogame seems pretty damn good to me.

I'm not sure how many hours I've played, but I've had the game since Christmas, but I don't play too much. Just some evenings and on weekends. And in April maybe June, I quit for about a month because of my 5th Corruption. Now I play sometimes and currently, I can't play at all because I'm sending my game (GC Version) to Sonic Team CA, to be checked out to get rid of FSOD, and hopefully they'll send me a new CD Disc. Anyway PSO is okay now, but once you've beaten every level, every boss, been able to use rares (I'm a legit), and done many quests, the game gets boring after awhile.

I kinda get bored with my characters now and then... I made a HUcast, but once I got to hard, I erased him to make a HUnewearl... I then made a second character a FOmar, but once I got to hard, I erased him and made a RAcast, but then I got tired of him when I got to HARD Ruins... So again, I erased him and made a HUmar that is at lvl 7.. I stopped there and started playing James Bond Nightfire because I needed a break... too bad I can't erase my brothers 2 characters...

I've spent at least 1500 hours on this game...

The key to keeping this game exciting is having good online friends and using a variety of characters... your sig indicates that the only two chars you use are RAcasts. IMO only playing as a Ranger WOULD get very boring. I've started to learn to use droids and explore Cmode to alleviate the monotony, which has finally begun to peek in (I say finally bc I've played this game non-stop since I bought it back in October).

Try a new character to change things up. I suggest a FOnewearl http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif (as different from RAcast as you can be) Or try Battle mode and Cmode. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I don't know how they did it, but Sonic Team managed to perfect the ability to brainwash RPG fans into playing a game more than a normal person could stand.....LOL. I've tried taking a break from PSO before....once....and that lasted about 2 days. I've always been into PSO since it first came out for DC. Lately I've been experimenting with different characters, and that's probably what's kept my interest in the game. I would say having a female and male version of each class would definitely keep things from getting too repetitive...so that's probably why I'm STILL hooked.....CURSE YOU SONIC TEAM!!! @.o
