XBox: XBOX Action Replay Question ??????

Hi Guys just a quick question. I am looking to get the xbox action replay with the memory card. What I need to know before i buy it is will it allow me to back up my characters onto my PC ?? i dont want to do this for any dodgy duping just so that I have a hard copy incase my xbox ever goes faulty and I loose data on the HDD. Is this possible ?? or is there another way of doing this without having my xbox chipped ??
