I think it's when you lose everything on your bank, and everything you equip. Basically you lose every item you have. It's really a pain. My brother got this a few months ago, it really was annoying http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

You can also get corruption by pulling out the memory card or turning off the power when it tells you not to:)

Aren't the official memory cards the black one, memory card 251, and the gray one, memory card 51(?). They are the one's made by Nintendo...

Mad Catz products aren't reliable at all. I've had two Controllers from them go to waste. Stick to the official products, they last much much longer.

From what I've read, the safest cards against random data corruption are the grey 51 Nintendo cards. However, I've used a 251 since January, and I haven't had any problems with it *knocks on wood*

The most common corruptions I've heard of are:

1) turning off the cube too early (wait for the title screen)

2) The game freezing during a save (most common entering a game and freezing during the double save). This type of corruption shouldn't be affected by the type of memory card; it may be related to connection type.

3) The card randomly corrupting the data (most common with non-Nintendo cards, or sometimes 251 cards)

you can also get corrupted when your offline friend has a retarded GameCube that is really messed up (has sprite spilled in it...got knocked off a table...gets chewed on by dogs...etc...) it fried my OFFICIAL nintendo card, and one of his games, which he let my friend borrow which messed up his gamecube and he had to pay 80 bucks to get it fixed...so...you don't have to use online, or an unofficial card to get corrupted...just look at me...

Well, I'm using a Logic 3 8MB memory card and it has served me well so far. I have been playing offline for about 150 hours in total so far and I'm always careful when quitting. I did have a slight mishap today when my GC crashed whilst online and upon restarting, it said that my game didn't finish properly and all my items might be deleted. Thankfully, my files were still intact. I think I'm going to get another memory card, probably a small Official Nintendo one and keep my PSO files on there.

Err... you can't copy your character files from one memory card to another. It's to prevent having double items and characters and stuff...
