View Full Version : Do dupers and dupe users enjoy PSO more than legits?

<theory>
I believe that the majority of dupers and dupe users enjoy PSO's gameplay more than legits. Why? Well, I realized this as I sat in Altair, saying to myself "God damn, PSO is a crappy game." I say this every once in a while, mostly when I burn out. I would quit, but I have too many friends on PSO, so I don't. Anyhoo, here is my "evidence" to support this claim:
People who use dupes or dupe themselves do not give a crap about the origins of their items. They just want to use what they want to use, and have fun doing it. If an item they own is legit, that's more often than not just a bonus (yes, people who use dupes still take pride in legit finds, despite what some people may tell you)
Legits basically can't have fun with PSO unless they know their stuff is legit. Why is that? Could it be that they just don't like PSO's actual gameplay enough to just use any old item, reguardless of where it came from? Maybe!
This is how I am: I never play PSO offline, and I really don't like just doing HS runs or some crap for hours and hours to gain a level. PSO just isn't that fun to me. That's why I became legit... I didn't like PSO enough just playing it, so I had to search for something new to hold my intrest- getting items the truest form of the "hard way" known to man.
</theory>
Anyway, if you disagree please post, I'm bored and want something interesting to read.
BUT.... God said onto man, "may this thread not be consumed by flames and stupid fighting..." so please try to keep it civil.

Well, first off, I'd like to back you up on the dupers still like to find good legit items. sure we may or may not dupe them when we find a good legit item but at one point I thought some of my really good items were legit and that made me excited (altho they're duped now). Also I'm not totally sure on the fun thing, you made some excellent points in there but really it's the person playing, not the whole group. some legits really have fun knowing that they can play w/o doing anything that's cheating. but on the other hand dupers have quite a bit of fun too, and legits USUALLY think that they ruin their game from duping, but that's not true. if duping ruined our games why would we do it? and also any1 who says that people dupe and/or hack cause they're bad at the game is just plain wrong. I played my first 122 levels semi-legit. semi meaning I traded and stuff for things that I wanted w/o knowing if those things were legit but I never duped. I accepted a few free items from my friends that duped later on tho. then I totally accepted items (from my friends only!!) after corrupting then I came upon the shop method and started duping. and frankly pso doesn't much involve skill...well, that's all I have to say lol....btw aurra, you have a good attitude on all this stuff lol, you're not going around bashing dupers like most legits do. thx for that lol

Depends on the person. Some enjoy playing legit more. Some enjoy not playing legit more.
I pity the people that say their way is the best, without having tried the other.

about the "cherishing legit weps" i have to agree becuase i never duped or spreaded my home-made mags, my legit orotagito, or my legitimate partisan of lightning...so....there's a little evidence if anyone was scepticle.
I don't agree with duping, but it's human nature to take advantage of a bug.
The only thing that would really piss me off is that if I spent ages finding a legit item, traded it off then a day later finding tons of copies of that item, whats the point of doing all that hard work if it's gonna be duped anyway?
Also it does get really lame when get everyone with the same weapons and the same mags, it's just stupid.
Finding the rare items and leveling your mag are two big parts of the game, tke away that thru duping and all you then have is leveling, which makes the game very boring.
I don't judge ppl for duping, it's there choice, plus it's there own falut if they choose to take most of the fun away from them.

Well as said before many people, many ways. I personaly love to find a rare weapon I've never seen before, although in the DC days I made my own weapons because of a weapon shortage. I still liked it when I found a special weapon that wasn't ye old DB saber. In fact I always love to have a veriaty of weapons to play with, the problem is though I usually get stuck with one paritcular weapon for an entire game. I hate having to search hi and low and kill minion after minion trying to get them to drop weapons I like, such as Partisan of Lightning and the anchent(sp? >_<) saber.
The worst part is while I'm happy to eventually get that weapon, I'm really pissed when I finally get it just case it took so much time to grab hold of it. If you had heard me after I finally got my double saber (curtesy of Baraba Ray after god knows how many run throughs and the fact I was level 90+ at the time) you could hear me cussing out Baraba Ray from down the street.
Unfortunatly not many of the enemies I fight drop different weapons so I just run through the game with ye old Storm wand or Ice staff: Dagon. Heck my hunter has had his del saber set since about mid 40's. It gets kind boreing because I never have new swords to play with or anything nearly as good as the delsaber set. So I kinda get burned out after a while and thats why I have so many secondary characters, so that way when I get bored with my hunter I switch to another one of my haren to play with at a low level for a while.

Dupers & dupe users don't actually enjoy the game more than legits. The ONLY reason I say this is because they spend an incredible amount of time going through the dupe process and/or trading for items. More than anything else, that is what I despise about dupes. I've had to sit in P2 & wait while people screw around in the shop/bank taking care of their dupes. I just want to play the game and have fun. In my experience the dupe users are more concerned about getting the rarest items than they are about actually using them.
That being said, the whining legit isn't doing him/herself any favors either. I can't imagine that a whining legit is having much fun as they bitch & moan about cheaters.
This is just my opinion & it is based on playing with people I know that use dupes and dupe themselves. It is also based on having a cool group of legit friends that does NOT cry, bitch & moan about how cheaters ruined the game.

That's not what I meant http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif I meant that from my experience, people who are willing to use dupes generally seem more enthusiastic about PSO's gameplay (the hacking and slashing of boomas, etc) than legits do.

One reason that I've enjoyed the game more since gaining the ability to dupe is that I can use a variety of weps at once. It is very satisfying to freeze an enemy with Snow Queen then hack him up with an s-rank twin; or to use a Psychowand to blow up a group of Gilchics on ult then switch to high-power mechs to destroy a Sinow Red (yay FOmarl!). When I used to worry about FSOD I could only carry one wep at a time, which got very boring. Now I have a ton of toys to play with http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif
One downfall is that I have endless copies of the strongest weps for each class, and I find myself using the same weps on all of my chars in each class. So I've started to develop personalities for my characters and started to have them pick favorite weps; my HUnewearl will not use a sword ever again, because her namesake would die before picking up a sword. My FOmar is enjoing his Ancient Saber. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Then I'd say it's the same. Once you get into a game & actually start killin things everybody seems to have a good time. I've never noticed a real difference between a legit or a dupe user in that way.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm talking about. I became legit after V1 because I burned out bigtime with all the best stuff. I wouldn't have burnt out though, had I liked PSO's gameplay more. I hate going through Ruins, and I REALLY hate going through Caves, heck, just about the only fun I have on PSO is rare hunting with my friends.
I think it's the rarity of the stuff that makes me want it- a legit Sange & Yasha is more rare than a duped one. Can anyone argue? Therefor, I would find it cooler to own a legit one than a duped one.

i think that the only reason for why dupe users might have more fun is that there are more of them, and hence it is easier to find people like yourself to hang out with.
the key to having fun in pso is community.
now that i have found a legit comminity of 20+ people, pso has taken on new meaning. it rocks. it's not JUST about the items, it's about helping each other. the people i play with are probably some of the best players i have ever played with on pso, and i've played with a lot of the "famous" dupe users. it's freaking awesome to be able to do Cmode with english speakers, and actually learn what's going on instead of just blindly following a jp around.
so i think an isolated legit, or a legit surrounded by dupers (<-- this used to be me, and it WASN'T as much fun at all) would probably not have as much fun with pso as a person who is part of a legit community.

http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif I only cause trouble on lamefaqs. I come here sometimes to see what's going on in the community. It keeps me grounded in reality since most of the people I play with think like we do & the Cheaters forum almost always has a topic worthy of a reply. I think this particular thread is interesting. I don't really agree with it but it's something I never thought of before.

Another thought just came to me in support of Aurra's theory. I think I would have lost interest in the game a long time ago if I didn't have any decent weapons to play with. A RAmarl with weak guns is simply painful to level. So I spent most of my time when I was legit trying to trade for and hunt for weapons that were fun to use (especially double-saber types), and rarely got any playing time in.
Once I was able to get ahold of all the items in the game I would ever spend time hunting for, the game really became a lot more fun for me. No more worries about making sure we have the right section ID or that we might find the rare I've been searching for so long and someone else gets it (because, being a FO, I'm usually in the back). No more worries about selfish item-hogs, no more worries about trade rooms... when I play now I don't have to worry about items, and I can have fun supporting my team and chatting.
If I had enough time to find all of these items legitly, I would probably try. It's fun finding legit items that I already have dupes of (found a God/Body in Ult Caves this weeked - it was lots of fun giving it to the one legit person in the room, and convincing him that his tech support gave him as much claim to the item as my HUs final hit). However, I am a full-time student and I work 30 hours a week as well, plus I have an apartment and a fiancee to take care of. I get enough frustration from real life, I don't need the frustration of hunting for 300+ hours for an item I want.
I think people are able to have more fun with the game when they are able to spend the time playing, not wanting. A legit may want an item, but as long as he/she enjoys the hunt, and doesn't let the longing get to him/her, he/she will have as much fun as a duper. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I agree completely, being a duper and using duped weapons is alot more fun. Being a legit purplenum is truly one of the most duanting tasks. I truly pity you if you are an offline purplenum force or hunter. I was one. It took me 30+ runs in VH temple just for one double saber. I was elated when I finally found it, but all the time I spent looking for it, was in the end, not worth it.
I love how duping enables you to get weapons youd never thought ud ever try to look for, but kinda had a little part of you inside wanting it. Take the Orioagito. It's a good weapon, but an agito from a tollaw was impossible. I just didnt try. It's not that I didnt want it, it's just I knew I wasnt gonna get it. Now I managed to get a duped Orioagito, I can say confidently that I would have been thouroughly dissapointed If I wouldve spent the time looking for one. It just isnt worth it.
Duping has opened me up to new chars. I always though RAcasts were stupid. Just sitting there with a lockgun blasting away. But I was able to get some real good duped RA weaps, and now I love the class. I can't get enough of how good the Spread Needle and the Snow Queen Are.
I agree that It is dumb walking around with the same weps as everyone else. For this reason, I try to use weapons and Mags that are somewhat unique. I've never seen another Hunter regularly using a twin blaze and a diwari, most are to busy using their BKBs and Dreamcast Mags. And when I get bored of those, I can easily switch, maybe get out a demo comet, ive become fond of mine, or bust out my old varaha, and finish the last ten levels.
Though I must say it can be somewhat annoying. It takes alot of time to dupe the 100 or so mats people want for the rares that I want to use. But now that I have pretty much fufilled all my main wants, I can truly just enjoy the gameplay.

When I was a dupe user, this was the opposite for me. The game got boring, because there was nothing else for me to earn besides a level. And I was tired of being part of the 'duper' hate, and switched over.
Either way, PSO is boring period.

I think most of you are misunderstanding... I'm not trying to say that duping makes PSO more fun. I'm just saying that I would bet that those willing to use duped items would generally enjoy PSO's raw gameplay more than people who aren't willing to use dupes. The using dupes or not using dupes is not the control variable here.
