View Full Version : Final Keyboard Questions

Alright... I finally picked up a Datel Powerboard... and I am not very impressed by a few things. If anyone who owns a Datel Powerboard would be kind enough to help me out here I would be very grateful.

Ok... first the 3 lights in the top right corner (Caps Lock, Scroll Lock, Num Lock) keep blinking every 50 seconds or so. This gets old but I can live with it.

Second when the lights blink I can't type for about 5-10 seconds afterwards. Now this is a pain in the ass.

Finally after playing for about an hour or so the keyboard does what I posted above but after 5-10 seconds I still can't type. After about 2 minutes of this I unplugged the keyboard and plugged it back in. It then proceeded to work... but I mean what the fuck. I pay money for a product that is THIS defective? I have asked a few other Datel owners and they say that they have had similar problems. One person hasn't encountered any though. Is my keyboard really defective or is this just how Datel makes them?

Thanks

I bought a keyboard from them and it does the same thing. If I try to type "This keyboard sucks!" It would probably come out something like "Tskboarss". I was so pissed off after I got it. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_argh.gif

The lights blink when the keyboard recieves power. When you turn your computer on, watch the lights, they flash. So, your keyboard keeps losing and then gaining power. And about not being able to type for a while afterwards, that's weird.. I havn't seen that before..

So is the keyboard just not getting a consistent source of power? Or something like that? http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_confused.gif

well the fact is when you type too fast the whole thing is doing crappy thing

solution : be zen and type slowly

the problem comes from the ps2 adapter not the keyboard as I've already tried to plug another kb in the stuff... the problem was the same

It's annoying for those who have a high speed rate, which is why I get alot of typos because I type up to 55-60 WPM.

you're not the only one http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

Go fast typists http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif *waves two little flags*

But I do hope the new $60 kb is fast-typists friendly.

I got the PS2 and keyboard adapter in one thing and it's fast typist friendly..

I agree about that crappy keyboard...it was a waste of 20$.
Instead of being "Perfect for Phantasy Star Online"
it's "Cheap garbage".Seriously,I had the Power Board sitting on my chair,it fell off,and three keys poped out...I put them back in and they still worked though...I guess that it has "Easy Repair" rating from me.

Behold! Through the power of duct tape and super glue I have become one with the keyboard...kinda...I dunno, i'm bored. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_bored.gif

still better than the virtual kb i think

and I don't wanted to waste some 100 $ in an ascii kb

http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_yes.gif Yeah even though it sucks pretty bad it's better than nothing.

Well thanks guys. It sucks that it is such a cheap product, but I do agree that it is easier than using the software keyboard.

Was just thinking, do you think the reason why the keyboard doesn't work properly is because it's not getting enough power? I mean doesn't UK use around 220v. But US uses 110v. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_confused.gif

ashramrak
08-04-2003, 08:10 AM
nope it's not that

220 or 110 v in a KB would be crazy; imagine you leave you shower; talk to friends in PSO and get electrocuted to death lol

all countries KB are 5 v powered I think (or 12 ?)

the point is that this datel adapter thing has many design flaws and that's all http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

Ok, I got a little frustrated last night and decided to pry apart the casing on the powerboard's adapter thing. Thinking maybe it gets too hot inside or something. After looking at it and saying "Hmmmmmmm" for five minutes I decided to try typing with it with the case off. And so far it seems to work. I dunno if it's just me but hey it's worth a try right...right? http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

Hmm I heard someone else mention that taking the casing off makes it work better. For some strange reason, my keyboard has stopped acting up.

Mine seemed to be working good with the case off last night but then I tried it this afternoon and it was acting up again. Maybe I can squeeze some fun out of it by burning it. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_bored.gif

I'm on my third powerboard right now... the first one having been glaringly defectinve, and the second one (bought yesterday) being almost working. Here's for third times the charm!

There's a simultanious conversation about this in general I felt obliged to link to, mainly because it contains powerboard ranting and slight raving on my part, just in case anyone was deciding that the powerboard was the right way to go...

Well it's really sad that you all keep thinking that it's going to work better with the case off

you know that's a very simple piece of electronics; not an overheated pentium 4 with too much overclock http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

ashramrak

I've just tried the happy fun box

what can I tell ?

plugged a french azerty kb; works flawlessly; perfectly; ....

Typing pretty fast; no probs at all

believe me; if you are upset with your datel adapter forget it and order an HFB

and of course you can plug the datel kb with the hfb

I'll post a mini-review later; after I play with it a little more http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

Krawz
08-07-2003, 03:10 PM
How much did it cost you?

ashramrak
08-07-2003, 05:07 PM
26.5$ on ebay, including shipping to france (6.5$)

I think it's cheap according to the fact that it is "artisanal" and not something produced in masses like the datel

after an evening using this I'm 100% convinced

not found a simple bug or rant

next step for me is to buy a wireless keyboard to go with my wavebird (tv is 29" and I'm far from the cube) http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

I don't feel like writing a review so let's just say :

Highly recommended !

Well it"s not sad and yes it does work just like any other kb with the case off.Do you have one if so try it with the case off and put a fan it the room.I'm 100% sure it will work better and faster. If you have a datel stick with it just take off the case then you will be all smiles http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif.

I feel the same whay there is no need for us to throw words at each other. All i'm saying is if you have a datel kb try taking the case off,but you don't have to do so.If you think its a bad idea then don't but i have one i was told to do it and my kb works just fine because i'm sure no one wants to spend more than they have to on a kb.Well anyway let us toast http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_beer.gif for we have kb's and we are online.
