Hello everyone i have decided to take this time and, compose a small guide on trouble shooting and getting your Nintendo Gamecube repaired.
First the symptoms
(1)If you every hear a ticking or humming sound coming from your system, simular to excessive loading while playing any videogame its the first sign of trouble with your lense or motor.
(2)If you start to recieve one of the following error messages,on a consistant basis then follow the instructions below...
ERROR MESSAGE # 1
The disc could not be read, please read the nintendo gamecube instruction bookletfor more information.
ERROR MESSAGE # 2
An error has occured, turn the power off and refer to the Nintendo gamecube, instruction booklet for more information.
What The book Tells You
All that this will do is give you a brief explanation of the error, and tell you to call this toll free number *1-800-255-3700*
If you decide to call this number have the following ready
Have your Nintendo Gamecube at your disposal,to save time write down the following information before calling.
I.Locate the nine digit DS-number from underneath your system it looks like this EXAMPLE:DS901******this determines rather are not you are eligible for a fee waiver.901*must be the first digits*
II.Locate the DOL numbers on the back of all,of your Official Nintendo assessories*do not mention any third party assessories are,you will be automatically disqualified, from the fee waiver process.
III.Personal TipBe sure to mention that you just puchased a new game, and recieved the error several times and that you have exchanged it at the place of purchase twice already also the game plays fine on a friends gamecube.*Why tell this little white lie, because it will eliminate 3 excuses NINTENDO can use.
(1)The represenitive saying maybe you have recieved a defective game disc.
(2)The represenitive asking if the game is scartched or dirty, smudged etc..etc..
(3)The represenitive asking you to try,the game out on another gamecube system.
*All of those will result in you, recieving a S/R number, and being asked to call back if the problem persist*
Problem:The NINTENDO repair hotline is always overloaded, and its nearly impossible to reach a live represenitive.
NO problem here is exactly what, the represenitive will have you to do:)
1.Look at all of your game disc,in a well lit area, check for scartches, fingerprints, smudges,or any other possible debree.
2.Using a soft cloth preferbly Cd cleaning wipes, but *quilted only* paper towels & tissue work just fine. Apply a non-abrasive cleaning solution to it,liquid soap with warm water,if using alchohol use a 50/50 water cut,to weaken the strength.
3.Starting from the inner circle out gently, make stright strokes to the outer circle NOTE:Never clean disc in a circular motionthen using the dry side of your cloth, wipe the disc in the same exact way until dry,no streaks or residue if possible.
4.Now disconnect your Nintendo Gamecube and all assessories, remove any game inside of the unit as well. Leaving the game hatch open slowly turn your system upside down, for 30-60 seconds while gently shifting it side to side at about a 45 degree angle. NOTE: what this does is remove any possible dust,or debree that could have wedged itself between the lense or motor resulting in DRE.
5.The last step although not mandatory is,that if you have a vaccum with the sucktionhose ability, you can remove any debree from around the gamecube fan using this method. Simply place it over the fan ventilation portortion,of your system and suck the dust away.
WARNING NEVER SPRAY COMPRESSED AIR INTO YOUR GAMECUBE UNIT
Because regardless of what many may say,all that can every come from this is that the air pressure, will wedge a piece of debree into your unit resulting in more problems then before.
The reason that i decided to post this guide,is because i had a very hard time getting the repair fee waived at first. I hope that this will make any fellow PSOW member, who may suffer from this get there system fixed for free alot easier http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif . The normal service fee is $77.00 but prices vary, because NINTENDO allows the technitions to charge what they wish.
PSOW MEMBERS I HOPE THAT THIS GUIDE,HELPS ONE OF YOU OUT IN YOUR DESPERATE TIME OF NEED. *LOL* ALSO MOD'S IF YOU FEEL THAT THIS MAY BE OF ANY HELP TO ANYONE PLEASE FEEL FREE TO PLACE IT WHERE EVER YOU LIKE http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif *sticky... sticky... or guides section ...guides section "just an idea" http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
