Krayana & Duke: Mortal Immortals
Chapter 1: Run and Hit
Years after the landing of Pioneer 2...
She picked up a clear glass decorative piece from the store shelf. The piece was laser printed in its interior with the three-dimensional image of Pioneer 2 that sparkled in the bright store lights like tiny bits of sand as she examined it in her hand. It was an unusually pretty and uplifting object, something she might have bought if she wasn't on duty. Instead, she stood there pretending to be a customer who was taking a casual shopping day, but avoiding purchasing anything she saw. She had to be ready, but not appear suspicious. So she put the object back on the shelf.
Krayana raised her eyes to look outside the store window, past the plaza, and into the nextdoor store. Duke was still there, wearing his black and dark blue FOmar robes, also disguised as a shopper. He cast his eyes up at her, with a reassuring look of confidence that they could pull it off together. She only continued to glance at him for a moment more, before placing the paperweight back on the shelf and examining a glass piece in the shape of a rappy holding a monomate.
But the moment they both were waiting for came. A white HUcast walked casually through the plaza, and her eyes caught it immediately. "He's here." she said into her hand, as she pretended to be rubbing her face.
She turned her eye for a moment to make sure the FOmar had heard her message. He gave a slight nod, and they both walked out of the stores they were stationed in. They kept their distance from one another, walking down the plaza on opposite sides, but in the parallel direction to the HUcast. The mall plaza was crowded with teenagers and other shopping adults -- "This is going to be difficult, be careful of your fire," she said into her hand again.
"Right. I'll use my Elysion." she heard the FOmar reply in her earpiece.
She waited until she had walked behind the HUcast, and the FOmar had gotten some distance ahead. She reached her hand to her hip and pretended to be scratching herself, but in the same instant as she drew her hand back, she was equipped with a red handgun. Turning around swiftly, she pulled the trigger and released a photon bullet that screamed across the plaza and left its mark on the white HUcast's head, sending him to the ground. "Hit percents rock." she whispered to herself.
Within the same instant, the FOmar cast a zonde spell, revealing a cloaked Sinow Berril. People in the mall around them began to gasp and scream. "Everybody down!" the FOmar called out. People swiftly followed the order, and he drew his Elysion as the HUnewearl sent another photon bullet to the Sinow's shoulder. A strange device on its shoulder, one that normally wasn't found on a sinow, was hit off. The FOmar then drove his blade into its body and the machine dropped to the ground. As he drew his blade out of the enemy, he saw another HUcast charging towards a group of people in the plaza behind the HUnewearl. "Kray!!" he called out.
The HUnewearl quickly turned herself around, spotted the machine, and shot its head off. She kept her gun out ready to fire. "Everybody stay down until you are ordered to rise. Anyone standing will be fired upon." Some moaning and crying were heard in response.
She and the FOmar slowly stepped closer to one another until they were back to back, scanning the plaza for any more enemies.
"Does your scanner show anything else is coming?" the FOmar asked the HUnewearl.
"No..."
"Mine either... I think we're clear."
They both gave a sigh of relief. "Alright. It's safe everyone, you can rise." she called out to the civilians lying on the floor as they had been ordered.
People began to stand up, many holding on to one another scared to death. But within moments, a HUcast appearing to be among the civilian class stood back up, and proceeded to detonate itself...
