Well, in our house we now have TWO copies of PSO connected to the internet. It's a long, sad story of hopeless obsession (and maybe too much cash to waste).
It all started with the router, really. After months of arguments I finally snapped and yelled at my boyfriend WILL YOU BUY A ROUTER ALREADY!
Now, considering we bought our UK cube for PSO (I had a Japanese one at the time, and didn't know I could use the JP version in the UK), PSO at this point had cost me the following:
One UK cube: £130 (pack in deal with Metroid)
One copy of PSO: £40
One BBA: £35
One router: £50
Oh and er, one USB card: £40
Four months' Hunters license: £24
Total: £319
Well, the other day, I saw a second hand BBA for only £20. The possibilities of networked play occurred to me in an instant. I persuaded my boyfriend that we really, really needed another copy of PSO, and the guy in the shop even offered us a discount! Now the total ran to:
Second hand BBA: £20
New copy of PSO: £32
Cost of obsession at this point: £371
My plan of course, was to run PSO on the Japanese cube with Freeloader. When I got home I tried this right away. It all worked - right up until the point I tried to go online. The cube repeatedly reported the following error:
"An error has occurred. Please refer to user manual."
Well, at this point I was FAR too excited about the fantastic thing I had bought into, that I HAD to rectify it by spending more cash. There were two solutions:
#1: Take PSO back to shop, wait till I go to Japan in only 4 weeks to buy a Japanese copy of PSO...
...or #2: I simply CAN'T WAIT THAT LONG! Let's buy a new UK gamecube, RIGHT NOW!
Guess which one I opted for? ^_^;
So to summate:
Total spent on PSO (WITHOUT buying any merchandising crap, which normally makes the cost of my gaming obsessions run into the hundreds) = £446 (nearly $700).
Well.... it's only £46 more than I spent on my 3DO at launch...
- Shimarisu (I can play ep 1+2 and ep 3 at the same time too, there IS that...)
