They aren't really ears. I think it's a brain monitoring type deal, so they can keep tabs on the mental stability of the pilot while they are in the Eva.

It's a reference to an Irish sitcom called Father Ted. Feck is apparently how the irish say fuck, or it's probably the fact that people in the show are Catholic (well, a parody thereof) and need a replacement for it. Anyway. I play with _J and Cubis, they've both used it here. How is it that you have never heard of Rei Ayanami, she is argueabley one of the biggest anime icons ever, especially in Japan where her image is stamped on more or less everything. The most basic explanation I can give is that she is one of the main charcters from an anime called Neon Genesis Evangellion.

I do agree that that the best chance of her losing in the character polls is to put her up against another popular anime character. As for the option of having her go up against Link, if memory serves me correctly Cell Shaded Link from wind Waker was knocked out the competion by Orcania Of Time Adult Link and Orcania Of Time adult Link was knocked out by Sonic so there is little or no chance of those two coming up against one another.
