We are all born as equals, no one of us is any better than another.
Yet, somewhere up the line, things become skewed.
Your parents deem themselves BETTER.N.U (and often do so to their dying days).
Your teachers deem themselves BETTER.N.U (even when you know more than they do).
Bosses (of any shape or stripe) always deem themselves BETTER.N.U.
People develop egos.
Sometimes, those egos inflate and grow, threatening to overwhelm not only its owner, but everyone else around them.
What is it that makes a person BETTER.N.U?
Is it paper? That little scrap of pounded and dried pulp that states that you have a diploma, degree, certificate, etc.?
Is it social status? The amassing of wealth, well-being and social contacts by your forbears?
Is it geographical location? Does the area in which you live imbue you with some strange property that makes a person BETTER.N.U (eg New York, Los Angeles)?
Is it knowledge? Or perhaps the wisdom to know when to use that knowledge?
Is it one's age? Being older sometimes imparts people with a form of BETTER.N.U. (sometimes, another form of BETTER.N.U pops up online, with people having frequented a site for a longer period of time than others, a sort of "old guard", coming together, and all of them have BETTER.N.U)
Perhaps it is having a sense of humor, the ability to let things roll off of your back, no matter how petty.
Perhaps it is the application of common sense and decency, the ability to hold one's temper in check, and above giving ridicule (unless called for).
Or is it all of these?
What, in your own terms, makes any one person BETTER.N.U?
