Has anyone other than me noticed that Fresh Kills hasn't been very fun recently? Before I even get started, I'd like to say that even though this topic is something of a rant, it's in Fresh Kills because I thought I should post it in the forum it's relevant to. (If this isn't Fresh Kills, I screwed up somewhere, please move it. Unless someone wanted to move it out of fresh kills, but I don't see why you would...) I'd prefer this be taken seriously, so please don't reply unless you're going to post something well thought-out and related to this topic. If you'd like to see examples of the sort of replies I don't want, look here:

http://pso-world.com/viewtopic.php?topic=64597&forum=14&16
http://pso-world.com/viewtopic.php?topic=64580&forum=14&5

...and so forth. I don't want to flame anyone, I just request that if you see your name in any of those topics, I'd reccomend that you either write out a decent reply or don't post here (in this topic) at all. If you do post something pointless, I'll politely ask you to leave, I don't want to start a fight. If this topic gets locked just because of what it is, it will only serve to prove the point that I promise I'm about to get to. Anyway, on to the topic.

It seems to be that recently, the mods have been downright condescending in their approach to topics. I'm aware that this is a board with different admins than the ones I usually go to and they have different ways of running things, but on all the forums I go to other than this one the mods will usually give the members a few chances to stop breaking rules before a topic is closed; here, it seems that most topics are simply closed with a brief description of why. If the topic itself was offensive I could understand, but when it's based on the replies, that's sort of unfair. Do you really look down upon the members to the point where you have to babysit us? Do you not consider us rational human beings, capable of behaving ourselves? I'm sure I'm going to get some smart-aleck reply about the mods being forced to baby-sit us, and maybe that applies to some members, but I don't think all of us need to be so carefully monitored that eight topics on one page need to be closed. (At this point, there's less, but go back a few pages; I counted as of last night because that's when I was originally planning this out.) I don't think it's too much to ask that you try to reason with us before closing a topic. I know you're only trying to do your job and following the rules, but when you start looking like self-important facist dictators to most of the members, it might be time to make some changes.

No, I'm not just going after the mods here; I know that rules have been broken, most likely several by myself, and I'm sorry if I've caused you a lot of trouble. To the members: Could we lay off the perversion and flaming here? There's always PMs or other boards, I'm just sick and tired of seeing so many topics closed. I haven't seen so much of it today, it's just the past several days have been a mess. I'd also like to ask people whose posts generally consist of one sentence and a pile of smilies or anything of the sort that they confine those to one topic rather than fill the board with images I'd really rather not see.

To any concerned parents who might be reading this, though I can't imagine why: I appreciate the initiative you're taking to protect your children, but trust me, we get exposed to much worse at school. Sexual comments are to be expected on forums mostly populated by teenage guys (no offense to the teenage guys out there), and the moderators can't be online 24/7 to watch for them. Don't chase after the admins for their behavior, talk to the offending members themselves.

Before anyone even says it, no, I am not trying to suck up to the mods or admins, but I'm trying to make peace with them since I think they're annoyed with this forum in general. Looking at the topics, I can say that if I modded it I wouldn't really be able to blame them.

That's all I can think of. If you'd like to post a (serious) reply or if you have any suggestions, feel free to add them. I don't expect this topic to do anything, but at least I tried.

...thank you for doing exactly what I asked you *not* to do, Vol Opt. This topic wasn't about you, and I have nothing against you, I just want some serious replies rather than ones that will only serve to take up space. I spent about 20 minutes writing this, please don't reply unless you've at least got a paragraph. I'm counting a paragraph as 5 sentences, that's not too much to ask.

you said that it is not that funny in fresh kills then you should start a topic because you are funny in other peoples topics IMO.

I admit I have had some stupid replies. and I guess I'm sorry for that. presently though, mike thinks he's cool because he "pwned" every topic. I only do that cause I'm bored and no one is active. anyways, mike is going to far and saying "pwned" in every topic

I would have to agry, there are many people out here breaking rules and a small few get the blame. Topics always get locked when half of them dont need to be. In the spam section isn't it just about spam? well hundreds of topics that are just spam are getting locked recently. I understand when topics are repeats but lately topics get locked when they are slightly similar to another that was made within a range of three days. I know this isn't exactly your point but I felt a need to add this, sorry.

What do you mean stupid replies? The DTPA is important! It may have been off topic....but that isnt the point! Anyway, on the topic, I have decided that the mods have been way too strict lately. They moved one of my topics to rants when I really needed it to be in Fresh Kills. It's under a different name now though...and it pisses me off!

mimicr
Aug 29, 2003, 04:46 PM
The mods have been way more strict, I agree. But then again, there's not really anything we can do about it.
Maybe it happened it arkham?

Trickstr

I suppose this can be linked to the mods being more careful about what goes on in fresh kills, they made a link warning informing us of this, maybe they are keeping a closer eye on fresh kills now, which is partly comforting but there ignoring all the flaming and just locking threads

The mods have been saying that they will keep a more strict watch on fresh kills for a long time, perhaps one particularly bad incident made them decide that it is indeed time to carry out their promise. Besides, it is quite obvious that.... some of us have been making threads for the purpose of getting them locked. I agree that the mods have gotten more strict, but the reason it seems so bad is that some of us are making it far worse than it would be.

Congratulations panda... i might hae just said the first serious thing since joining psow... its hard with a pumpkin head...

It's not the moderators' fault. It's stupid Gamespy that got wussy with the parents' complaints.

There is one reason stuff is modded:

The average Internet gamer is an asshole.

Believe you me, you haven't seen even the tip of the iceberg yet. Among all the forums on the web, PSOW ranks just barely into the "Strict" adjective. That's because it's big, it's popular and there are lots of people. Mods won't care much on a forum with just 300 people. You're among buddies, you let yourself loose, you have fun and post stupid stuff, but whatever. However, you now enter a place with more than 15,000 members. This isn't pocket change.

As a contrast, here are some rules on another, much more strict forum just to give you an appreciation of what things can go down to. I will not mention said website.

-Do not register under a Dragon Ball name.
-Do not post threads about religion.
-Read the articles before asking a question. If you ask a question that's already answered in the articles, you will be banned.
-Do not ask why your thread was deleted.

As for the whole kids VS adults thing, I believe in three fundamental principles:

1) If your age contains a single digit, don't even THINK of going on the Internet.
2) The web is a jungle. There are no laws, no limits and no restrictions. Whatever page you do, you make your own rules. If you don't like how a place is managed, go somewhere else, there's tons like this.
3) I assume the average Internet person is an adult, and therefore, if I gotta curse, I will curse, and I will not censor myself. Kids learn to curse before they're even born, so for all the effect it's gonna do to 'em here, well, whatever...

In some cases, sure, but you want an example of a pointless lock?

http://pso-world.com/viewtopic.php?topic=64525&forum=14&1

True, the topic was equally pointless, but it wasn't flaming or anything, it was just spam. In a spam forum. It might have developed into flaming, but it didn't even have a chance.

Believe you me, you haven't seen even the tip of the iceberg yet.

I've been online eight years, please don't make assumptions. -___- I know this forum isn't the most strict, it's the sudden change that gets to me. It's both members and moderators.

If your age contains a single digit, don't even THINK of going on the Internet.

I still think it's a matter of maturity rather than age, and it depends on where you go. I didn't start really posting on forums regularly until I was 12 or so. I never stumbled onto porn sites or anything with massive amounts of obscene material in general. I must be lucky, eh?

all i have to say without wanting to say much is

it's sad that we are forced to babysit when we really don't want to, when we want to give you the freedom to do whatever you want but within accepted reason. fresh kills was created with the intention of spamming and fun but why must some members, SOME, not all ruin it for everyone. and why must these members do it and take the fun out of everyone and make us step in and do our job making us look like the bad guys? we want to keep this forum fun and free for everyone but then there comes aong a select group of members (and i am not pointing fingers here) that spoils it for everyone. we do consider you guys rational, just not all of you guys, because some of you guys heve proven otherwise and have proven that you can't behave. and seriously it sucks that they do this and take the fun out of fresh kills for everyone else. and it sucks when we constantly see posts purposely made to make jabs at mods and staff. the quality of posts and conversations here has gone downhill tremendously and that has nothing to do with moderators, only the users. what are we supposed to do when there is questionable posts made on purpose? so we are foced to lock a topic and take the fun away when there are other good posts, but we are doing our job, now who's to blame? if there were no questionable posts in the thread in the first place, if everyone abided by the rules, no locks would happen.

the dime guntz thing wasn't a pointless lock since it was done on purpose.

so if you guys can work it out amongst yourselves, and abide by the rules and quit the flaming, the accusations and the mod hostility, i have no problems with it. now if the problems persist, then unfortunately we have to do something about it.

but lamerpanda, i mean, even you see what kind of responses you get in this thread, honestly sometimes it's a lot to deal with. watch my post get even more hostility, when my intention is for you guys to work something out so we don't have to keep feeling like we're changing soiled diapers.
