To get away from all the legit vs unlegit threads going on, I thought it would be nice to make a thread everyone can participate in without many flame.

Anyway, as you can see from the thread title I'd like to discuss the purpose of '???' weapons and items. And NO I'm not talking about '??? Rifles' and whatnot. I'm talking about those white sabers that have weird animations (ie. Two white sabers that act like mechguns with the Yasminkov sound effect). Here's some info I've gathered so far on it..

It's encoded on the disc so it cannot be "hacked" by a hacker.

It's not multiequip

One of the sabers acts as a triple flow (Think of the double flow except you can do the special 3 times)

They don't alter your stats, making them useless.

They have their own hexcode so they are individual items and NOT mixed and matched

You need the God/Equip patch to use them

...And that's about it.

So any thoughts? I think they're left over weapons Sega was planning on putting in the game but scratched that idea but still kept them on the disc because they thought nobody would find them. Or maybe they're just graphics that were used in testing the animations..but, I want other people's thoughts on 'em.

Well I agree with you very much. And speaking of hacking items off of the disc that is exactly what I keep telling people. If there is an item flowing around but never seen legitmately yet its cause they pull it off the disc. Just like when on PSOX servers photon drops could not be exchanged for awhile and people still had VIRUS ARMORs and BKB and all the other drop exchange items.

If Sonic Team was smart enough thety would do two things:
1.Before they do the final testing phase, they have to remove all items that are not supposed to be released.
Or
2.If they're not able to do so,they can create a permanmently banned items list so that these "beta" weapons can't be used online.

Yes,these are 'Dummied-out' items, according to that description. Most of the time Dummied items are always unavailiable without hex-coding into the database, and are always unusable without the right patch-up.

I have seen this weapon in action before,and-
They don't alter your stats, making them useless.
which is why I bring up the question why you would want to use one in the first place. Sure,it's cool looking, and is like doing x9 fist damage long range, but I'd rather go with some hacked-up% mechguns anyway.

I think what they are is the result of protection built into the game to keep it from crashing if it hits an invalid item code. Since, they aren't actual weapons, it can't pull up a name, so it just shows "???". Also, it wouldn't have any set stats for it, or have what classes could use it setup. They most likely appear as white color sabers since it wouldn't know how to draw them out, but since it would know in some cases as to what type of weapon it is, it would be able to set up the animation.

ST didnt make them, they arent real items. Just trial and error and something glitched came up.

Uh yeah ditto on what ginko said, why would you bump this with something so rediculous? Don't do that again and read the forum rules.
