my very first online name was D@rtFr0g because it was a pain in the ass for people to type. I dunno how I came up with that one, but it worked. People bitched about how hard it was to type my name in-game, so from then on I became "Spy." It's short, its sweet, and it's ambiguos. With it I can be a womanizing brit or a calm, cold killer for hire.

There was a special on the Discovery channel or something about a pack of wolves that were being studied. The alpha wolf's name was Kamots (with an 's', didn't know how it was actually spelled until later). I picked it because I was tired of my previous handle, which was just an abbreviation of my real name. I also thought that no one would ever pick that name. I was quite wrong. It's everywhere. I registered my Kamotz_@hotmail.com account long before hotmail was owned by Microsoft. Some guy beat me to it =P

Well, as I always do, I made my first character on PSO, I looked him over and named him Omega12. Don't ask, I just name stuff of the top of my head. But when I signed up at PSO World, I spelt it Omege12 instead of Omega12..d'oh! Oh well.

Fly Robin Fly is a weird old disco/funk song by Silver Convention - when I though about the character I wanted to make, it popped into my head as her theme song. It's got a great, cheezy base line that I'm sure Puffy's ripped off by now. For whatever reason, I didn't feel like capitalizing it, so now I just look even more foolish than necessary. Anyhoo, I sure lucked out because this name landed me the coveted Viridia section ID, heh.

To come up with names for my characters, I try to find something that will fit his or her persona well. I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I take my character creation in RPGs seriously. I mean, this character is going to represent who I am, how other's prercieve me, and I tend to try to acctually role-play the part a bit (if the game allows such, like Baludur's Gate, Icewind Dale, etc). But anyways, I first think of how I want the character to be--personality wise. From there, I try to find a mix of appearance traits that will fit said personality. After that process is completed, I sit and stare at the finished character and try to come up with names that just FIT. For example--

....my HUmar. I wanted a character that was sorta cocky.....well, not really cocky, but more like very confident in his skills. He knows he's all that and a bag of chips when it comes to combat, but he tends to not gloat about it, except to his fallen foes......saying such things as "....hmph....pathetic...." when he disembowels a Delsabre......or "superior-tech!" when defeating a boss. Around people, he tends to be sorta shy, never really participating in conversations, except to chime in every so often to tell others where to stick it. =D However, sorta contrary to this description, he's a good guy. His intent isn't malicious or anything. It's just the way he is. Sorta like me--a smartass by nature, but in a subtle, clever fashion to where 99% of the people in the world don't know that i'm insulting them or poking fun at them. And like me, he's a good hearted person, always willing to go out of his way to help others, never asking for them to return the favor.

Anyways, I take these character traits and try to come up with a look that will suite him. Hmm....let's see.....a overall good guy, yet he comes off like an @sshole to others....percieved as a bad person.....let's make his suite black with yellow designs. We'll give him pale white skin, to accent the fact that he spends much of his time indoors training his fighting arts. As for hair? Well, let's give him hair kinda like mine--parted in the middle and length about to his chin. We'll make it yellow to match the yellow parts on his outfit, and also to kinda contradict the way people percieve him (blondes generally tend to be percieved more as vibrant people by others). We'll give him crystal blue eyes to reflect the goodness that's in his heart. And since his good intent is not readily apparent to others, reflecting that in one's eyes is a nice, subtle way of conveying that (since, according to the oft used cliche, the eyes are the window to the soul).

Ok.....so I take all this into account and try to come up with a name. What kind of name would portray all this to others? What kind of name will sound like a seemingly dark, troubled young man, yet he's good natured? Hmm...I know!!! Let's name him "Malakai". Sounds like some kind of evil person's name, yet at the same time, carries with it a sense of serenity, a sense of determination and devotion. And what do you know?!?! "Malakai" is YELLOWBOZE!! Matches the rest of his look--yellow hair, black outfit with yellow decoration on it. =D

Anyways, sorry for the long, winded post. But you DID ask how we came up with our names, right? =D It's a long process for me to come up with one (as outlined above), but remember--you can't change your name once a character is created, and consequently, you're gonna be stuck with it for the remainder of his or her game life. Might as well take the extra time to make it one that you won't regret. =D

OH.....by the way. If anyone ever want to know why I named my new character, a HUcast, the name "Torment", just let me know. I came up with a cool storyline as to why, from a role-playing perspective. It has to do with something that....occured...with Malakai. It's pretty cool.....i think so at least. =D Anyways, just let me know if you're interested and i'll post it up. =D

A long time ago, when a friend asked me to bring him his orange juice, I erupted, "I am not your slave! I am Drahktar! Eater of Souls! Master of all! Servant of none!" I'm not entirely sure what cause me to react that way, I think I was really hopped up on caffine. Then I started using that name for everything: ICQ, e-mail, profiles for games, and stuff like that. The real appeal to a name like this is that no one else has any reason to take it, so I always get the name I want.
