View Full Version : The greedy player ruins the day...

Planning to play Towards the Future with two friends I know and trust, a fourth player I don't know joined the band while chilling in the lobby. I don't recall this person ever actually being invited, but I assumed she knew one of my friends, the way she was talking with him, and so I didn't say anything. However, I had this sinking feeling she was going to be trouble from the start. It was very apparent my thoughts were correct when a Tollaw dropped a Red box and she ran over and snagged it before anyone else had a chance to even react (I was the closest one to it when it dropped). Granted I made the team and knew it was merely a Red Handgun (or a Photon Drop), it still was very un-teamly-like for someone to stop fighting just to run over and grab it. However, I held my tongue for that incident and we continued playing. As the Sil Dragon was dying her greed showed again as she moved up and stood right at his feet to swipe any item that dropped, in which case a red box did drop: a Justy-23ST. I absolutely hate when people do that, so this time I couldn't hold my tongue. I made it very clear to her that I dispise people that are greedy like that, but she just laughed. It wasn't until the battle with Vol Opt ver.2 that things would truly go sour. As Vol Opt was dying she again moved to where the item would drop in order to swipe it. Low and behold, a red box drops and she snags it. Playing on Greennill, I knew exactly what it was: a Ruby Bullet. I had been the one to make the team specifically to hunt that item. I have been searching for one of those for months, killing Vol Opt ver.2 literally over 100 times on IDs that can get it, but to no avail. It finally drops and is stolen by a greedy stranger who has nabbed every red box dropped in this team. I asked her politely (I said please) to drop it untekked, but she just laughed and refused. One of my friends, who was much calmer than I, tried to explain how long I had been searching for it. It had obviously fallen on deaf ears (or rather blind eyes) for the moment. The thing is, I didn't even need it to keep since I traded Auracom for one a couple months ago. I just wanted to prove I could find one by taking a tekker screenshot. But before you could say fuckin-A, she had tekked it and just continued to laugh about it like it was some kind of joke. Needless to say I was furious and let everyone know. For being such an asshole I asked her to leave and shortly after the team fell apart. We never even played the Ruins. I just can't play with people who won't be a team player. It reminds me why I almost always play alone (or even offline) when my trusted friends aren't online or are already occupied. Call me a mysanthropist, but I hate people in general. Things like this simply push me further in that direction. Perhaps I over-reacted a bit, but considering all the effort I've put in trying to find a Ruby Bullet I think my anger was justified.

Have you ever had an experience like this...?

Edit: In my rage I forgot a couple key points, so they have been added.

Sadly, the answer is a big YUP! But mostly in open teams, so no complaining about it...
Whenever gathering in the lobby before a quest I always ask (by mail) who's friend it is if I don't know someone. If it's a stranger, I either make a closed team for me and my friends, or play an open run to check the person out. In case of misbehavior, the person is marked as non-friend and not welcome in the quest...
So, whenever something like this happens, I have nothing to complain about.

yes, seen this before. especially in cmode (item hoggers).

funny thing was, before a try for c6-clear, i set the duties (me boxes) and everyone agreed. but the hucast went for the boxes as well. i told him to go and kill some stuff instead since it doesnt need 2 to open boxes. later he insulted me of hogging items (yeah as if i'd wouldnt drop stuff at the next door that others could use better than i). needless to say we failed (c6) in the secondlast area.

well..
back on topic.

i think you overreacted... sure you want a tekkerpicture but well... whats the use of argueing. if its just pumping you up and the other one doesnt even care its wasted energy...

people like that dont trust anyone so noone should lay trust in them. when i notice an item hog i usually dont care for any redbox dropped. everything particularily rare gets snatched... even if its a trifluid and they're a hunewearl that doesnt cast once in the whole game...
(i usually leave this team constellation asap)

words towards morons never help and online you cant grab and slap someone, sadly...

say you what... lets do some TTF-runs for you next time we meet, ok?

have fun ^_^

I'm sorry to hear that, I recently had a bad experience being ripped off from a rare myself. I was in a Seabed run on a Viridia ID. I cleared a room myself while a HUmar waited outside the room. During the fight, the HUmar ran in to grab the rare that dropped and laughed about it as he left. I know for a fact it was a Psycho Wand, because it came off a delbiter, and was a Special Weapon with a staff symbol. Only reason why I didn't pick it up was that my inventory was full.

Maybe sometime we can team up together! I'll work with just about anybody, as long as they aren't jerks. I'll prove to you that not everyone is an asshole like that!

I've never had anything like that happen to me, but only because I'm offline only. I must admit that I too frequently find myself hating people in general. They really do suck sometimes.

why in god's name don't you play in locked games? that's what i do. i can't take the morass of immature little fucktards that infest pso. i just can't. i haven't randomly met any cool new people in months (i only seem to meet decent people if they're a freind of a freind). i count myself sooooo lucky to have an awesome group of legit players to play with who are not only good at the damn game but are also just fun people in general and never ever EVER EVER grab rares out from under each other.

i spent a good part of my pso career playing almost exclusively offline. and i almost never venture out into the great unwashed pso public unless i'm bored and feel like slumming it and having a good laugh at the general decrepid state of things.

to me, when someone just grabs an item, it's not about the ITEM per se, it's the PRINCIPLE of the thing. in my group, there's no real set way of determining who gets a wanted item (be it a mat or red box or whatever). it's partially determined by what class you have out and suchlike (FOs generally get first dibs on canes and such); but mostly it's just a civil discussion about who wants it the most. i can't recall the last time anyone made a fuss over an item. 'cause the damn game isn't really about items, it's about camraderie and teamword. dammit.

the worst thing about playing in public is when something halfway decent drops and some little spoiled brat jerk with a 00/00/100/100/100 guldmilla grabs it. THEY'RE NOT GONNA USE A RUBY BULLET INSTEAD OF THEIR GM, SO WHY TAKE IT? they already have their uber dupe crutches. so obnoxious. and if they really want it they can probably just go and get one from their freindly neighborhood duper.

but i guess, when you're raised by wolves... it's just the way they were brought up. you first log on to gc pso (your first time ever on pso) you probably go to one of the most populated ships (vega 1, ant http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_cool.gif and it's welcome to the jungle. you quickly learn that it's every pixelated avatar for themselves. open games gernerally don't foster a "team" atmosphere. people either adapt to that mentality or they reject it and either quit playing altoghether, quit playing with other people, or get really really lucky and find a regular group of people to play with who share their desire for sharing and teamwork (and then hide in locked games on obscure ships).

so yea, if stuff like that pisses you off, just make sure to stick to your freinds. i know if i see someone i don't recognize in our lobby i'll mail around and ask if anyone knows whether or not they're cool before including them in our plans.

Yes yes yes... we've all run into the greedy PSO player that is unwilling to share... I'll admit I've had my fair tries of just instinctively running and grabbing the red box... but eh... if it's something I can't use, and I feel I can remotely trust another player in the game based upon how they are playing, I ask them to equip it to see what it is... and if I don't want it, I let them keep it... can't collect every red box or my box will fill again... speaking of which... I think I need to go crappy rare dumping... where is a Hard game? LoL...
My sincere condolences to that who was ripped off a Psycho Wand. I remember I had one of dems once... then I FSOD... and lost it... but I had it for a good...

you're all right, greedy people are annoying, (man a ruby bullet) specially when they barely do anything at all to get the item, kind of like you kill an enemy and they take the item it drops

How terribly unfortunate! Chalk it up to experience & be more careful from now on. I'm sure your friends will understand your caution after an event like this. And I can vouch for what bordering had to say since we play together. There's nothing better than having a group of friends that you can trust & don't hoard rares. More often than not, we have trouble figuring out who gets the rares! Players actual argue saying, "you take it" "no you"

I usually do play in locked teams. But we were just going to load a quest and, as I mentioned, she seemed to know one of my two friends that were with me. There was no reason for what happened, just a person who's only interested in playing for herself.

In the end it really wasn't about the item, but the principle of the matter. She was playing as part of a team, and therefore should have been sharing with the team. She alone didn't kill everything to make those red boxes drop, we all played our share. So it's very un-teamly-like to grab everything, especially forcibly so (running halfway across the room or standing at a boss drop point). Trust and friendship must be earned, and I can't accept either from a person that acts the way she did. I will never knowingly play with this person again, that's for sure.

ace13
10-15-2003, 02:57 PM
I tend to agree but that kind of stuff mostly happens in open games. Most of the games I play now are with friends, legit or otherwise. Usually now we get into games and specific rares are "called". That particular rare drops and the person who called it gets it. We've been playing this way for sometime and it works. Of course the team has to consist of friends or it doesn't work of course. ACE

I only recently met the worst team player imaginable. I was in TTF and this one guy started up the boss teleport AS SOON as he touched it. Always. Even falz. I missed the forest boss, because I went back to get the extra Bartle for max kills, and I just barely made it Cave boss teleport in time... They had disapeared and the red barrier was gone but somehow the game sent me as well even though I was late. He even laughed about it. Total idiot.

There may be no "I" in team, but there is a ME(if you switch it around a little), which is all that the greedy little bitch was thinking. Voting to force out a person would be nice, just make it so people couldnt abuse it like PKing. Maybe where you would jsut be forced out of the game and not be allowed back in.
Why did she go through the trouble of taking one from legit people and pissing them off when they could have just made it easier and asked for one from a duper?

I play open games on occasion, but if I do I'm not looking for anything. And any rare I find I offer to the rest of the team before stowing it away.

But yes, that sucks. I've never had the experience you've had, but all the same, I'm sorry it happened. *sigh* Most of the PSO community really needs to be smacked upside the head something fierce.

Ouch... That sucks almost as much as the HUnewearl who came in, asked for a pipe, watched when I Gizonde'd the Pal Rappy, and grabbed the box.

I didn't see the color, but I can guess by the way he (it definitely wasn't a girl. Talked and acted like a guy. Don't tell me I'm sexist, people think I'm gay because 80% of my friends are girls) refused to simply tell me what it was that it was a ?(Sword)SPECIAL WEAPON. Not that I or the RAcaseal could use it, and my HUcast friend already had one, but it's just wrong to drop in, pick up an Agito, and deny it. Heck, I'd have let him have it if he'd simply said so, and apologized (even though I nearly got OHKO'ed by a Gulgus-Gue while Shifta'ing the droids).

I wish the game creator could boot, like in Starcraft.

Very similar to my incident with Berill Hands. Everytime it dropped in my PURPLENUM game, someone runs to snatch it. And it was each time I made an EpII game to look for them. Since then, it stopped dropping for me.

Vulpes that's mainly why, if I could(stupid online levels past forest force you to need 2 people) - play by myself. And hunt by myself. And NO ONE is getting my lavis cannon.

Well, it's not over. It'll drop again, hopefully. Then again, Vol was never too keen with leaving his shit(so to speak) behind after he's dead.

Omg especially in Cmode. The stupid idiots go after every orange box and if they get a weapon better than their old one, they don't even drop the old one when he can see that I am using a Sword or a Brand. They think that their weapons will carry over or something...

I know how you feel... I had a kind of similar experience in Ruins Ult... I have been looking for a Guardiana for a while now, and just entered a game in ult, they were in Ruins, so I figured, hey, it might drop. So I go down and begin to play, when all of the sudden I see a red box, sitting there on the ground, and I continue fighting, thinking I'll get it after I'm done with this enemy, I'm closest to it, when all of the sudden a HUnewearl in the group stops fighting and goes and grabs it out from near me! They pick it up and a few seconds later say "Guardiana" Like its no big deal, like they have multiples of it... and then just take it... I mentioned that I had wanted one, but they just "lol"ed me... Not that it would have mattered, I wouldn't have accepted it if they had dropped it... It just wouldn't feel the same as if I had been the one to pick it up first, head up to P2 and tekk it, seeing a huge suprise in front of me... If only there werent greedy $@#%s in PSO... Humans are so disgusting...

One of the things I've done in games is that if a new person joins, we tell him he's last on the totem pole when it comes to rares. The game creator gets dibs on the first drop, 2nd person gets dibs on the second drop, 3rd person gets dips on the 3rd drop, 4th on the fourth, 1st on the fifth, so on and so forth.

Another option is that we make claims to what weapons we want - in games I make first claims to any luck material that we find (now its typically trifluids) and the other players make dibs on other items, and the feeling is mutual. I do admit that if a person wants a rare and I pick it up, mostly its due to see if I can equip it or not!

If someone asks for it, I always drop it. I have no need for another rare when I have 20 Varistas and 6 clubs of Laconium waiting for me in the Item Bank.... heh, but really, I do drop it.

Oh, another thing you can do is leave bad feedback. For cheating. Thats always a good thing to do, as I've done it many times before because of people being total assholes to the team - starting the teleporter and not dying, even if being asked to die, so everyone can get a chance at the boss among other things.. Yelling, screaming, calling us anything insulting towards a group (gay, Jew, n*****s, anything) gets the person an automatic negative feedback from me and a voiceban.

PLUS, most of them are too dumb to realize that people will leave negative feedback about them. Its like sweet justice, actually! And another thing, just realize that sooner or later, people will start getting sick of her/him in their games. I cannot tolerate a person who is a jerk, and doesn't leave when asked to do so.

Oh, the best thing to do in the world is this: Let the person die. If they ask to be revived, simply state in a nice, calm voice... "We're following your lead of not being team players. I don't feel like reviving you at all." OOOH that gets people. I only do that on extremely rare conditions - the best part is doing that at Falz, and teach 'em a lesson about what you do can haunt you in the future. Or something.

This is why I play on Japanese ships. People NEVER snatch the item. They leave it on the floor of P2 for people to claim if they want it, or play rock/paper/scissors if 2 people do. Even when a duping player joined one of my games, who seemed to be a rude little kid - he typed "Hoshii!" (I WANT!) as soon as the Diska of Braveman dropped at the dragon, he also had NO idea how the rock/paper/scissors rule worked, but when I dropped it on the floor of P2 and explained how to play he did NOT swipe it. Even the rudest of players on the JP ships aren't as snatchy as ANYONE on the US.

Once I was in a Japanese game, a US player joined and we were at Vol Opt. Ruby Bullet dropped, he/she did not swipe it immediately, but stood there watching as a massive discussion started between the 2 RAs present as to who needed it more. Then the US player (HUnewearl) just walked up and took it. I was able to embarrass them into dropping it by switching into fluent English at that point, something they WERE NOT EXPECTING - they actually dropped it but then immediately quit the game without a word.

You'll get Ruby Bullet eventually. Just keep playing TTF - I found mine finally after guilt-tripping myself to hand over the first 2 that dropped to the RAs present. Fortunately no RAs were in the team the third time, so I claimed it and gave it to my mostly-offline RAcast.
