View Full Version : Annoying Semantics Argument
The island of Gal Da Val is divided into several areas:
Jungle (North and East)
Mountain
Seaside
Central Control
With that said, why does everyone keep calling the whole thing the Central Control Area (CCA)? It's highly inaccurate, the Central Control Area is only the areas from the entrance gate to the boss teleporter to the cliffs. The surrounding areas are not part of the facility.
"Gal Da Val Island", as it's called in the Word Select, is much more accurate. If that's too long for you then why not simply "GDV" (which is akin to the common yet wrong "CCA") or "island"?

What's it say when you go to step into the transporter? Gal Da Val Island or Central Control Area?

The teleportor says "Central Control Area" simply because that's where it take you. CCA is merely part of the island and provides access to the other parts.

As a whole, they make up the Gal Da Val Island. The Central Control Area is the (wait for it) central area that connects all the accessible locations on the Island. To call it the Central Control Area is inaccurate. The whole area is indeed Gal Da Val Island.

Do we call the whole Ruins "Ruins 1?" That's what the teleporter says. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif
Do we call the whole VR Temple "VR Temple Alpha?" That's what the teleporter says. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif
I think you get the point. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

hm, i not quite agree this time...
once you unlocked ruins 3, it says so on the teleporter / pipe, right? *smiles*
and seabed would technically be a part of said island as well imho. hn.. indeed a question of determining. tower is? part of cca as well, isnt it?
i guess, completely right would be 'cca' as main area, since jungle, mountain and seaside are just subareas...
so its right as well as wrong, depending on the point of view.

I actually always say Gal Da Val. Not "Island" cuz I'm French and using an English word like that, with no obvious reasos would just seem odd.

yeah, the french are very proud of their language. but seeing the whole game is actually pretty english most of the time, where's the point.
especially since the intro claims that gal da val is and island?

i call the upper areas 'cca' & lower 'seabed' lol http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Never really given it any thought. You and Vulpes are right in my opinion. I am not trying to hijack this thread, but I have a question. If you are searching for a Gal Gryphon feather, can you go straight there, or do you have to go through all the other areas? For a Sealed J, can you just do Seaside runs over and over again?

Well French does have A LOT of foreign words, mainly from English, most people don't care, some complain. I live in London, so... http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif
The point is most French people wouldn't be able to pronounce "island", some actually say it >_< it sounds like 'is land' ("is" as in "it is true") with a strong nasal sound for "land" so my saying "island" with my trained English accent would sound either odd or condescending.

no, the point A2K was making is that everyone refers to this whole area of Ep2 the CCA.
the CCA is only a part of Gal Da Val (yeah the tower is part of CCA).
Jungle, Mountain, Seaside, CCA/Towers, Seabeds lower/upper make up individual parts of the whole Gal Da Val Island.
just as Ruins 1/2/3 are all just individual parts of the Ruins level. (forest, cave, mines, Ruins all being generic sections of Ragol and Ep1)
i guess people just call all of it CCA because it the main transport to that area of EP2. even though its only a portion of Gal Da Val. i guess GDV would make a lot more sense though, and be just a brief. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

how may people here have done goegraphy?
so how can you have a seabed on an island? the seabed technically isnt even part of the island and is somewhere off the coast, therefore doesnt come into it. we clearly see in the intro video the camera plunge into the sea, in fact, without any land mass of any description nearby.
The island is an island, part of it is taken up by the CCA, other parts are jungle areas, mountain area, and seaside area. they are seperate areas of the island and are clearly not under the influence of senior Gal Gryphon or any heavy machinery/towers.
i bid you fair day http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

We also see Olga Flow apparently underwater in the intro, which is obviously wrong, or you'd drown long before you got OHKOed by the cheap motherflucker on his second form. We're talking PSO here. I mean, does the layout of Mines make -any- sense whatsoever for any sort of facility? >_>; Does Forest really look like a -residential- area to you? Does Seabed maker any sort of sense as a facility for anything, except maybe getting lots of exercise as one walks/runs down 8 billion overly long corridors. >_>
That said, I also support calling the whole thing Gal Da Val. I'm tired of clarifying which area of it I don't hate by saying 'the main part of CCA, after you do the other three'. >_>;

I don't see why you care. But with this logic, why call the ruins "Ruins 1,2,3" when you learn from Rico that it's actually a spaceship?
Hrith
11-15-2003, 08:49 PM
Actually the Seabed facility is underneath Control Tower, if what Elly says is accurate, which does make sense since you get to West Tower from Seabed Upper Levels.
And the part when we see Olga in the intro is Test Subject Disposal Area. If you look closely you can see water being drained 'for your arrival' if I may say so. Hence the water remaining in Seabed Upper Levels, even more in Seabed Lower Levels, and in the Test Subject Disposal Area.

Take a real close look guys, and this will explain everything.
We call Ruins 1, 2, and 3 the "Ruins" collectively because they have the same name except for the numbers. No one wants to call it a Space Ship, because, well, it's the RUINS of a spaceship, isn't it?
Everyone calls Gal Da Val island the CCA because they're lazy. What's easier to say? Gal Da Val Island, or the CCA? It's simple laziness, and I find it weird that people would argue over it. Now if you don't mind, I have a sequel to write...

And it would get really confusing if we called it "Spaceship" due to the VR Spaceship level.

Oh, come now. That would be very easy to get around. Just call Ruins Spaceship, and the VR area by the more accurate name of 'Spacesh!t'
XD
BTW, Gol Bob is so much less of an annoyance with a Cure/Freeze and a Cure/Shock...

Bah. Let Ruins be ruins an let VR Spaceship well be VR Spaceship. LoL
If people have to be lazy can't you they at least call it "GDV"? *sigh*

besides, saying CCA or Gal da Val has the same number of syllables (and French don't fancy short forms)

After reading each post I forgot what in the hell we were even jabbering about.
When people make CCA games it's obvious they're implying that CCA is open...which is the majority of EP2 and is past the fuggin' VR missions.
Make game names called "GDV" and people will think you belong to some feeble clan.
So just because people have been doing it forever that has made it right?

no, its just that the common pso player is too stupid to think GDV=Gal Dal Val(or however its spelt http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif)
