View Full Version : Questions about Hori's PSO memory card.

Hey, all. I was wondering if anyone who imported Episode III imported Hori's GC memory card as well. I've been thinking about importing the card, though I plan on holding out for the US version of the game.

First, are there any compatibility issues with Japanese memory cards on systems from another region? I'm under the impression that the cards are all pretty much the same, but I'd appreciate it if someone could confim this.

Second, is this card officially licensed by Nintendo? It looks like it has the GameCube logo and stuff on it, and it's obviously endorsed by Sega, since it contains unique card data, but is it basically like an official Nintendo card? I ask this because I know the headache that 3rd party cards have caused people here, and I'm reluctant to get one if it's going to result in corruption. I'm worried enough about it being a 251 rather than a 59, but on the other hand, I could really use the space. So, has anyone used this card or heard of anyone using it? Have there been any problems such as corruptions associated with it?

And finally, though there's no way of really knowing this yet, do you think the Japanese card data on the memory card will be compatible with the US version of the game, or would it be unlikely due to different file formats or the language used on the cards or whatever? Just curious about that last one.

Anyway, I just wanted to know because I'm planning to order some import stuff before Christmas, and I'd really like to get one of the PSO memory cards while I'm at it. But I just wanna make sure it'll work okay with my US game saves and stuff first. It'd be great if the card data works with the US version of the game, but I mostly just want it because it doesn't cost too much more than a domestic 251 card, and it looks damn cool. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

So, can anyone out there give me any advice? I'd really appreciate it. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Hi,
The Hori memory card is an officially licensed Nintendo product and comes with PAPER cards NOT card data.

The card is blank when you first use it and it can be formatted to be used with the American game.

Personally, its cheaper for me to buy this limited card than a regular one in the UK - and the fact that it's PSO related makes it all the much more worthwhile.

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news but there is no extra data on the memory card.

Sorry,

Mr.Springate

Are you sure they're paper cards? The description on every import site I've seen seems to imply that there's game data on the cards. I'd actually prefer paper cards, because chances are that if there's already game data on the cards, they would only be for use with the Japanese save, and the card would have to be reformated to use with a US or EU version of the game, deleting the card data in the process (and that would just be depressing).

But I'm getting the impression that there's data on the cards (which I imagine would be similar to the data on the card that comes packaged with the game Animal Crossing) from the descriptions on import sites. For example:

Lik-sang: "Includes five special in-game cards already saved to memory and ready for use."

Play-Asia: "Additionally, the Hori Memory Card 251 Phantasy Star Online III includes a save stats with five special cards already preloaded. A great tool to start into the game."

NCSX: "In addition to the crisp artwork on the clear memory card 251, data for five special cards will also be pre-loaded onto the card for frantic fans to unleash in the game."

So, I'm wondering if these descriptions are incorrect. If so, it wouldn't be bad news for me since I'll be getting the US version of the game, and paper cards would make a nifty collector's item. Do you have the Hori card yourself and speak from experience? Please tell. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I've never used any Japanese games or accessories with my GameCube before, so as much as I want this card, I'm curious about what things I should know before buying it.

Every single one of those sites is completely and utterly wrong. You get no extra data, but you do get some very lovely real life cards.

Awesome. Looks like I can order without any worries about compatibility, then. Thank you very much, both of you. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

May I reiterate? Does anyone own the card and tell me from experience that there are no pre-loaded cards for use in the JP version.

I got the HORI memory card and yes you get REAL cards(or paper cards whatever you want to call em) , not PRE-LOADED cards on the memory card.
Like said above, some sites were wrong.

Yes all sites were wrong at first time and jp players i know were wrong too i think sega only wrote 5 free cards inside but they dont wrote if was real cards or game cards.
And i didnt know ep 3 had cards inside pack i think was only for trial user or sega direct.
