I managed to get myself a pair the other day and was wondering what people thought of them...they seem to have a pretty high chance of getting an instant kill.
Are there better short-swords out there?

Personally I love S-Beats. I've been using them as my main weapon for litteraly months. They rock against slimes and PanArms. The third attack is a bit slow, but my Devil/Battle changes that completely. Hell ya! I think S-Beats are great!

I have a pair myself. Oddly enough, it was a Delsabre on Hard mode, Ruins 2 that dropped the S-Beat Arms. Not a Sinow Beat like I imagined.
Anyways, after forging them into S-Beat Blades, I found them to be the strongest ATP Dagger-type weapon. However, with a lack of any Photons, the S-beats can be far from the strongest. I have a pair of Bloody Art daggers that deal an extra 50% to Dark, 45% to Machine, and 45% to A-Beast. Needless to say, my Bloody Arts are my dagger of choice when going toe-to-toe with the baddies. And I don't like to rely on the S-Beats special (Instant Kill). Enemies die too quickly anyways, so to me, it's a waste to even bother with Special attacks which miss very often.
But even then, you'll find Daggers utterly worthless on the higher difficulties, since enemies tend to swarm your character VERY quickly. Better to go with a Partisin or Sword with high photons. Found me a Chainsawd the other day with 45% to dark and 35% to Machine that does nicely coupled with my God/Battle. =D

My friend has a pair as well, and when there's two of us we tend to find that we survive alright even when we're swarmed, with a bit of teamwork..
Of course that's only V-hard forest and caves, so it might be different on the mines and ruins...

Bah! I use my S-beats in the ruins V-hard all the time. I spank those funky neon sharks. You just gotta be a quick chick (or fella). I eat Del-Sabers for breakfast! Just do the little circle dance with them and whap, whap, whap...dead Del Saber!
Whats with androids and their big clunky swords anyways? Must be a male ego, phallic type dealhttp://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_wink.gif.

LoL, Danger Girl!
Acctually, I don't use my newly aquired Chainsawd with my HUcast. My HUmar is the wielder of it. And like him, I get no complaints from the wife. =p
But anyways, HUnewearls have a much higher Evade and Defense rating than HUmars, so you can easily go toe-to-toe with enemies without much fear of getting knocked flat on your butt. HUmars on the other hand, kinda lack in those 2 areas, thus forcing them to rely on weapons which hit multiple foes in one swing if they want to survive solo. When playing online with my crew, then yes--i'll swap over to Daggers or a Delsabre's Buster. Serves two purposes--Daggers and Sabre's are more fun to use, and I don't wind up hoarding all the XP. Works out well. =D

Oh I'm just teasing Tormenthttp://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_razz.gif. I like big cluncky swords toohttp://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_wink.gif. I actually hate daggers. There's just something about those S-Beats. I think they have sentimental value or something.

Personally DG, I HATE it when you use those S-Beats. You seem to die more often than usual when you use those things and you die enough as it ishttp://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_wink.gif. Oh, and I know all about what *ahem* sentimental value those S-beats hold for youhttp://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_razz.gif.

Sometimes when I use my favorite weapon, Vyaja, I try and do the special attack and I keep missing, and missing. And since I am not killing anything, I die. And when I am aliv again, I hit start to equip my weapon...and I am out of meseta! D'oh!
Hehehe...

Geeze. I'm only here a short while and i'm already the recipient of teasing from my peers. Must be my long hair in braids. People think i'm a rastafari or something. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_wink.gif
But yea, I can see how an item would hold sentimental value to someone. Hell, I STILL have the very first rare I ever found--a DB's Sabre I aquired from my very first rare monster, a Hildablue. It wasn't until later on when I got to V-hard Mines and Ruins did I realize how common these things were. But I kept it nonetheless. A trophy if you will. Well, that and it has 50% Dark attribute. =D
And besides, the S-Beats are one of THE coolest looking weapons in the game. Not only the asthetics of them, but the way it looks while attacking. I wish more weapons had the flair when attacking like Daggers, wands and Double Sabres do. And the game needs to be more kinetic....like an anime....or similar to games like ZOE for PS2 or Guardian Heroes for the Saturn. But that's a new topic all it's own, saved for another day and time. =D

Lysan sweeetie, I die more with the S-beats because they get me excited. You know how I am when I get excited http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_wink.gif.
I know what you mean Torment by the way S-beats look when attacking. I remember I was getting some motion screen captures with them. Ambrai caught my image right in the middle of the "spread eagle" portion of the attack. I have yet to see them. I guess he kept them for his private collection http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_razz.gif. He has tried to blackmail me a few times with them though.

I love S-Beats for several reasons.
1. As mentioned, they just look cool
2. Having the highest % instant kill in the game is nice, not always useful, but nice.
3. Even though all seem to have zero photon affinity, The S-Beats are one of the few weapons able to do enough damage anyway (sure you could do MORE with 60%, but do you REALLY need to?)
4. I actually do like the functionality of daggers, just not the look. S-Beats on the other hand... (see reason 1).
My HUnewearl was actually created for the express reason of using my S-Bests. Her MAG was also choosen not on stats, but as an addition to her look (she is REALLY hot right now http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_razz.gif)

There's another good thing about S-Beats that no one seems to have mentionned yet--Rangers can use them! Why any of us would when we've got Shotguns is beyond me, but there it is...
Seriously, they look cool and the funky martial arts "dance" your character does is beautiful. As a Ranger, I'm used to seeing my character just sort of stand there flinching a bit at gun recoil. S-Beats are a refreshing change.
Also, is it just me or do S-Beats have better reach than normal daggers?
Daggers of all sorts suck in the Mines, where Gilchics get blown back preventing the multiple hits to take place and Canadines decide to just fly in the air when you're armed with a melee weapon. Nevertheless, it's satisfying to kill and S-beat with S-Beat blades. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_smile.gif

I know what you mean Xaken, that's the reason I basically chose to play a HUnewearl http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_wink.gif
Keeping my goddamn Garuda mags has been a bit of a pain, and their stat arrangement is pretty wonky...but hell, they look great. As someone put it...

I hear you loud and clear, Xaken. I always choose my mag not based on functionality, but rather on asthetics. And call me obsessive, but EVERYTHING has to match--the outfit colors, the hair, the weapon of choice, the mag....everything. I like my characters to just flat out look badass. What's the point of decimating monsters if you can't look supah fly doing it? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_wink.gif Like he said in White Men Can't Jump....."it's better to lose and look good, than to win and look bad" http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_wink.gif

Oh man, Danger Girl.....i'd love to get some screen captures of my character during some of the attacks with daggers and sabre. With the sabre, I want a snapshot of how it looks when you're close to an enemy, and your character holds the sabre with both hands in a ready position, then you start to walk toward the enemy and your character holds it ready in one hand, and the other hand is outstretched in front of him. That animation is just too cool. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_wink.gif
Problem is, all my VMU's are full with game data.....all 7 of them. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_wink.gif Maybe I can contact this Ambrai person and get them done.

I borrowed a friends once, those are awesome blades, they go well with my HUcast, he slaughters them in very hard caves and mine, but I need to raise his evade a little more http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_wink.gif lol

Acctually, MechDan, Daggers are my HUmar's weapon of choice when trudging through the Mines. It's rather easy to get full functionality out of Daggers while you're there. Answer? Only do up to the second attack. Never use the third. Against Gilchics, it works well because, like you mentioned, they fall back when attacked, only allowing you to get in the first 2 attacks (by attacks I mean button presses). As for the flying saucer thingys (can't remember what they're called), just fling a spell at them and they drop. Daggers keep Sinow's on their toes, being that you can attack relatively fast, thus forcing them to recoil while you add in another attack. And against Garantz, the only thing better is a high Mech % Mechgun. If you can get in there quick enough, they don't have a chance to launch any missles.
Anyways, just my 2 meseta on the matter. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_wink.gif

Ahh, the memories. *Sniff, sniff* My first real ?rare? was an S-Beat arms found on hard when my Hucast was still a young microchip. I generally dislike daggers, but love my S-Beat Blades even if it has no %. It?s a beautiful weapon to behold. There?s also something satisfying about beating a Sinow Beat with its own arms. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_razz.gif
?Also, is it just me or do S-Beats have better reach than normal daggers??
Being longer than daggers, I would have to say that yes, S-Beats do seem to have a much better reach than daggers.

I have yet to get my hands on one of those. Hey Danger how bout letting me borrow those S-beats of yours just to try em out; to see how they look on Punanny. ..... On second thought, you probably wouldn't want to part with them, even for half an hour... and i dunno if a force char can even equip it.. besides I think I'll put in the work to find me one.

well i have one, too and i max out that thing out but there is a little problem cause when i use it in v-hard mode ruin is danm slow and i get killed often. any my main weapon is db-saber is kool cause i didn't realize it very usefull than those 10-12 star weapon. Want to why? it easy to kill with special attack that cuz tp since you use tp you don't miss often. if you put on your power attack high there will kill enemy with one hit better than instantly kill you often missed. GO TRY IT. I know most of you want to have rare item but if you have it you don't even used it what it the point have it anyway.

Sorry, Forces can't equip S-Beat blades. If you still want one, I have one to spare.
Anyway, I guess I just never got the positioning/timing down on daggers to connect with the second attack against Gilchiks.

Fomarls can?t equip the S-Beat Blades. ATP requirements slightly too high (485 I think) whereas Fomarl ATP maxes at 483. However, if you manage to get your hands on a set of Pan Arms, Fomarls can equip it. Fonewman/Fonewearl, I?m not sure if they can equip the S-Beat Blades or not. It would depend on their max ATP. This is interesting as Fomarls can equip the Inferno Bazooka, but Fonewearls can?t because Fonewearls have a lower max ATA (120 I think) than Fomarls (132) and the Bazooka requires 125 (I think).http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_smile.gif

I use Hell Rippers often enough. I always bring them to the caves (Pan Arms, Slimes), The instant kill bit works quite often. As for the S-Beats having longer range, I don't think so. Daggers don't actually have to connect to do damage, I think you'd be surprised how far away you can be with daggers and still hit.
