Well:

1) You equip a hacked/duped item, depending on what it is and what Sega has queried, when you're online, you'll get disconnected. The item is also recorded in their database along with the serial number of your game. I had that happen when someone gave me a hacked God-TP and I accidentally took it out of my bank.

If you have the item on beforehand, then sign online, you won't be able to join or create a team.

2) Devil/Technique (or a hacked version of it) basically makes it so that techs have the opposite effect (Whoever said "Whoever asked what Devil/Tech is is dumb" can go eat my big chocolate balls. Not everyone knows the terminology, which is why I'm being nice and explaining it).

3) Unfortunately, there's no item or method in the game, other than using a Game Shark and putting in codes such as "do not drop item when dead," that will protect you from thieves. I would read the Cheating/Stealing FAQ on gamefaqs.com for info on protecting yourself from potential theft situations.
