Last night I lost Sisqua, my level 100 RAmar to a dc reset and file corruption. All I can say is, it really sucks. 300 hours effort gone in the blink of an eye.
I really hope it never happens to one of you. Lets hope PSO2 (not v2) introduces server side saving.

I am very sorry to hear that Sisqua...
Sisqua was a great character, full of life, love and guts.... I, unfortunatly, never had the chance to fight along side this fine man but rest assured when Sisqua.jr is created I will assist in the level ups as much as possible... He may have only lived for 300hrs but he will live on in our hearts forever...
Rest in peace Sisqua, the great!

I think I'm gonna carry on with my other char Laluki (lvl 31 Force) but wait until PSO v2. comes out in the US before starting a new Sisqua as I'd only have to start again for a third time if I import it.

Well that really sucks. I've been lucky so for and never had it happen. May I ask what you experianced? Did you just save as normal, and then when you went to play again, you got the dreaded message? Or did something happen like a DC reset or a freeze up?

Yeah Danger_Girl, I had complete DC reset - it's happened twice before but I've gotten away with it and just lost non-equipped items. What killed me this time was that I was in the middle of telepiping (the stage loading screen) when it reset. I feared the worst straight away but hoped I would be wrong. Sure enough though, when I got to the character select screen, I got that awful "this file cannot be used to play the game" message.
Ironically I had just been into the ruins to kill Falz and had picked up a load of good items on the way. I was actually thinking what a lucky day I was having when it all happened.

That really sucks man. I've had a couple of BSOD's but managed to recover from all of those without losing anything. Let me know if you need anything for your Force, my main is a 56 Force who may have some left over stuff if you want http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_smile.gif

What has been nice is the number of people who have mailed me, or expressed support both here and on other boards (or in the game itself). My regular team even suggested a moments silence in the lobby!!! I'm sure Laluki will really appreciate the kindness that others have shown her now that she has lost her big brother.

I forgot to say thanks for the game Sisqua, it's a shame it had to end with that.
Cheers!

Thanks Milli.
I did out of desparation email SEGA to see if there was any way of fixing a corrupted file. As expected, they said this isn't possible. I thought I'd post their response though, for no other reason than I found it quite amusing that even SEGA refer to the BSOD!!! (If this doesn't sound unusual, think about it - can you imagine a Microsoft rep. referring to the famous Windows Blue Screen of Death in an email!!?)
Dear [Name withheld]
Thank you for your email.
Unfortunately there is no way of repairing damaged game files- this applies to all games, not just PSO.
Regarding the way the console reset itself, I would like to make sure it is not a regular occurence. If it is happening on a regular basis with all disks, it may be worth checking that gd-roms and lens are perfectly clean.
In any case, we are aware that it can happen occasionaly, so let me apologize for an inconvenience that unfortunately cannot be prevented entirely.
Something else I would like to double check with you is whether you were actually affected by what has become known as the BSOD, the Black Screen of Death, which sadly cannot be prevented. If it did happen, some users find that you can still save your progress and avoid damage to the file, by removing the modem cable and waiting (up to half an hour, it appears) for the save option to be given.
Best regards

What really tugs my chariot, I that letter is SO unsympathetic!
I hope SEGA hardware developer's families fall asleep for 300hrs... so I can write into them and say:
Dear Sega-man,
I'm sooooooo sorry to hear that your family are in this temporary coma.. Why not try picking up a copy of PSO and playing that to kill some time... With any luck you won't get BSOD'd and I won't write in another pointless letter!
Thanks for nothing.
Yours SINCERLY!!!!!!
