is there any way to make a strong close combat ark?

(by strong i mean doesn't get killed easily and able to dish out some heavy damage)

Simple answer, no.

In a close-quarter fight vs a Hunter, an Ark is going down. As an Ark, you need to put as many pets between yourself and an attacking Hunter as possible, maybe adding the Ark character's own attacks once the Hunter is weakened.

If you still feel the need to give it a go, your best bet would be Endo as his attack hits all equipped cards at once.
