Can't do it.
.................................................. ......................couldnt you just save it to a memory card from the HD and then load it to ur new xbox's HD?

Every Xbox HD has an EEPROM which the character is bound to, you cant copy files to a new HD with a different EEPROM.

Er,to put it simple, your characters are tied to your Xbox's Serial Number,so you can't move your characters to another Xbox period, unless there was an actual way to change serial numbers.
This has happened to me before,I lost alot of good characters...

Weeeell......I made a HUmar on a friend's Xbox, then used a mem card to bring it to my Xbox, it works, just you can only do multi, no online or single player.

unless there was an actual way to change serial numbers.
Only with an illegally modified Xbox.

Hello http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif. Well u can trasfer & u cant. With a MOD u can Clone the old Eeprom to the new Xbox & put the NEW Eeprom to the OLd xbox. That way the serial number & HD remain the same. Also your character saves yadda.. yadda are done with no harm. The game & xblive couldnt tell the difference. So give it a try thats what i did.
U can learn something from everybody http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif.

I have heard this can be done and would like to know exactly how to do it. I have some friends who have xboxes that are dying a slow death so we have been backing up every item they have so that when it happens they can at least get their items back. Is there website that has good instructions on how to complete this process?

If your Xbox is already modded I can explain how to do it.

Jeez, just take a screwdriver to the X box and swap the HDs around. It's not rocket science.

Seems like a remarkably roundabout way of doing things. Reprogramming EEPROMS? God you haxor types really like to inconvenience yourselves. It's surely a simple 5 minute hands on job, if the EEPROM is on the HD, unscrew both consoles and swap the HDs round. I've done it many a time with faulty consoles, swapped a drive from one with glitchy graphics chips et al, to one with a broken drive.
If the EEPROM is on the main board, only then should you inconvenience yourself, having to reprogram the damn thing.

Another thing... what is running 'real bad'? If ithe DVD ROM is running 'real bad', just unscrew the X-Box and swap those around. In consoles these drives are in a nice self contained unit, no messing around required. You won't necessarily void the warrantee either, despite all the THIS CONSOLE IS NOT USER REPAIRABLE, CONSULT A TRAINED TECHNICIAN shit in the manual, it boils down to this:
Is there a little sticker over any of the screw shafts? One that says "Voided if removed?" If not, go to town on it with a screwdriver. Safety screws involved? No problem, just buy a ratchet screwdriver with replaceable security heads. ($15 at worst, and useful for life). If you can get your X-Box or indeed, any other console apart without voiding a sticker, nobody in Chistendom will know.
Back in the old days, we wrecked many a Saturn and SNES with power surges from faulty soldering irons. This sort of shit simply doesn't happen any more, consoles are too well made, rip it apart and piece it back together - requires zero skill. No, you will not electrocute yourself either, unless the console has an internal power supply and you are DUMB enough to leave it plugged in while fixing it. No soldering irons required for this job either, simply get into the bones of the unit, lift out the DVD ROM, unplug it, plug it into the other console. Remember to connect the little red and black power wire on the unit too - just jack it straight in. If you boot up the console and it doesn't load, then you forgot to plug in this simple little wire, that we all forget to do from time to time. Problems with the unit recognising the drive door is shut? You simply didn't align it well when screwing it back together.
Seriously, anyone who ever put a PC together can fix a modern console, in fact it's far, far easier than putting a PC together. Don't be scared of the woo-woo warnings in the manual.

I understand your delimma, having gone through something worse. As far as I know, saving a character to a memory card is the only way to do it and you will only be able to play your character in multiplayer, not single or online as stated above.
Atleast you have a chance to start a new character and transfer all your items from your old character to your new one.
I sent my Xbox in for service on the DVDRom drive ( wouldnt play Morrowind, Rainbowsix 3 properly) and they formatted the hard drive. In total, 12 characters were lost, ranging from level 24 to 115 and well over 2000 hours of playing time ( i have the image burn on my big screen to prove it. As well as several rare items ( Crush bullet, Meteor Smash, Varistas, Talis, guilty light, hildebears cane, Summit Moon, and many many more). When i called and complained that they were supposed to fix the DVDRom drive (which still didnt work) they said tough luck.
After i sent it back in for the same problem and explained everything tot the new tech, he sent me a free game (ooohhh...Munch's Odessy). I refuse to play it as it represents the death of many favorite charcters (including my lvl 107 Fonewearl) Life can suck at times.
Finally, after 3 times being sent in for repair, they sent me a new XBox.

Basically I shouldn't even play on my brothers XBOX anymore until I get mine because it will just mess me up.
I have a level 62 HUcast and I do not want to give up that level, it took me a lot of play time to get there.
If I have to I guess I will just give my new char. all of the items I have but will have to start leveling all over again. (or I will just keep playing it on my bros XBOX)
