View Full Version : Sega pulled the plug?

Coarse

I called EB and asked if they had this game for game cube and he said the sega pulled the plug on the online service and discontinued the game. I think that's bullshit though I have a feeling he mixed it up with the dreamcast version or something. Or did PSOGC really discontinue and shut down?

PhatDiddy
01-02-2004, 11:05 AM
PSOGC is still up so yea that guy was bullshitin.
but i think they stopped makin the game, i havent seen it in the stores since i got it and that was a year ago.

i am sick to fuckign death with EB/GAME/other game shope reps telling poeple wrong info. they think they know stuff and they usually make it up.

hey years ago befor v2 on dc was out, i went into game and asked "is/when is pso v2 comming out on dc?" they said "its not, its only gunna be out on ps2"

Stop by places like Toys R'us and Future Shop. They are bound to have a few copies left. But, like everyone else said, wait for PSO plus, if you can. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Maybe this will explain EB's problem.
(It's about Software Etc., but they're all the same anyway)

http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php3?date=2001-09-21

Anyway, like everyone else said, PSO is still supported on Gamecube. Sometimes the folks who work at those kind of stores don't know what they're doing, but they can't act clueless because it will look bad. So they tell you false information. Retail's a tough business.

I'd have to agree with the link above. Nintendo is really getting the short end of the stick lately. In fact, 2 summers ago, my friend went to EB Games near me and asked if they had Medabots AX. The clerk replied "We aren't dealing with anymore new GBA games." LOL. Went back this summer, they still had new GBA games. LOL.

That's funny, my EB still have PSO for Gamecube and ps2. But I haven't seen them anywhere else. But I find games are usually cheaper at Slackers. If you can find what your looking for.

TerraStriker
01-02-2004, 06:41 PM
That is impossible because PSO was not on PS2 and NEVER will be...So they can't have it on PS2....

On another note every gameshop I been too in Maryland has PSO...In fact when I went to get my Hunter: The Reckoning 3 people in line were buying it...

PhatDiddy

i was just at gamestop today and they still got copies left, even after a year of PSO being released they still got it.

dylcool
01-02-2004, 07:36 PM
I think what they mean by discontinued is that they are no longer producing/creating more copies, not that they aren't supporting the online capabilities. A lot of games get "discontinued" in this sense after about a year or so (or sooner, I don't really know all that much about it).
Never fear, PSO is alive and well.

DarK-SuN
01-02-2004, 08:21 PM
Indeed they discontinued PSOep1&2 but that's because they are about to release PSOplus, just wait a little while longer and you'll have PSO again in the form of PSOplus.

Hmm... I think I'm going to call one of these retailers. When they tell me that it's discontinued I'll just tell them, "No, it isn't." Wonder what'll happen.

Heh. Anybody else like watching the clerks eyes bulge out in panic when you know more about the product than they do? I love doing that in the video game section at Toys R' Us.

pso episode I&II for the gc was actually discontinued awhile back (at least to my knowledge), before pso plus was ever even announced. i remember back in like january of '03 trying to find it. it was a bitch to track down... even if a game has stopped having copies manufactured, there will still be copies of the game floating around. and yes, i've had clerks tell me bs many a time. you don't know it's bad until you have someone tell you pso is only for the nintendo 64... -.-;

why do people always say pso is already dead? a game is "dead" when people no longer play it/log onto its servers and last time i checked this game was far from dead, especially with the recent jp release of ep3 and the impending release of it here in february.

The whole "PSO being discontinued" thing was at best a rumor on the internet.

i dont see how its an internet rumor. my search for it had nothing to do with the internet... the reason i was led to believe it was discontinued is that when i called about 20 different stores anywhere in my area they were all sold out of them and said they wouldn't be getting anymore copies of the game. i asked the clerks from a couple of different stores (ones who knew what they were talking about) and they both said that they called sega for more shipments, only to have sega tell them they weren't making new copies of the game anymore.

It's funny how their site has it but none of their stores do. That's usually the case, if you really want it you can order it from their site and they order one for you. You can also ask someone in the shop to order it for you but you would probably have to get it once it arrived http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_evil.gif

They're up in canada, so their money is different. If i'm correct, they saw it on sale for about US $35.
It took me forever to find PSO ep.1&2. I went to Best Buy, Circut City, Target(I needed some clothes, too.), and EB. While a friend of mine was out at Best Buy, he saw that they had ONE copy left, so he rushed to get it for me(Since he already had it) and got it just before two other people came into the section talking about getting it. Funny thing was, I was in Best Buy at the time, but was exchanging my cheap-ass CD player. Funny how things turned out, eh?
That was in December 2002.

I was lucky. The WalMart Supercentre in Memphis where I was living at the time had several copies of the game, so I had no trouble getting it. Only thing I've ever had trouble finding was the Modem Adapter, and that only because I had to wait until November last year to get it, lol. I got PSO in... Marchish? Not that long ago. I bought my 'Cube at EBX, though, because they had Platinum and WalMart didn't. :razz: Got a memcard 251 at WalMart, too. Heh. Only thing on the 59 that held my HUmar at the time, though, was another HUmar belonging to my friend's brother, and he didn't use the character anymore. So I just gave him the 251 and kept the 59. *shrug* Not that starting a L35 over again would have been particularily painful, especially not twinked with a Rati and Hard-level stuff, but I was attached to my HUmar and I'd heard 59s were better for online anyway in case I someday got on.

</ramble>

Only PSO I see these days, though, is Xbox. X_x;

I dunno about you guys, but near every video game clerk within an hour of me either runs off what their boss babbles to them or what's stated on the internet. I find it very unlikely that half of those people actually called Sega themselves. It's also quite likely that if it were a Gamestop or EB, they were told to not push the game. Bleh, I know, but they do that all the time. They'll tell you they don't have a game in order to push their new releases. (Especially if you want to pre-order them!) PSO doesn't seem a likely candidate for hiding, but anything's possible.

Ever try playing on a JP ship? I think I've seen more new rares in the couple days I've played there than I have since I first came online. The fact of the matter is that just because all those things means nothing on Vega-1, doesn't mean that's the case everywhere else. Also if you say rare-hunting means nothing, then I guess all those threads abuot how to find this and that are...fake?

lmao... I do love doing that... When I bought PSO for the GameCube at a local Funcoland, the clerk was like, "You know, you could just wait a few months and get it for the PS2." To this I replied, "Um, no I can't. Maybe if it were COMING to the PS2. Maybe if I HAD a PS2, I would consider it. Except I don't have a PS2, and PSO isn't coming to it anyway. You COULD have it confused with the Sega ageS remakes of PS1, 2 and 4, which ARE coming to the PS2, but at the moment, those are Japan only." This was the day PSO was released for the GameCube in the US. The guy was just, "Oh... All right..." Meanwhile, I'm thinking something along the lines of, "pwnd!" It was glorious.

The lesson? Games shops employees are more misinformed about upcoming releases than even Gaming mags. They're likely to be accurate about a game's release date within a week of it being released (hence, when their particular store has already ordered their copies), but beyond that, the further away the actual date is, the further off they're going to be. Thus, inevitably, because PSO for PS2 will never be made or released, guys at GameStop franchises will always tell you something in between, "Next month" or "Next year". Unless they've been properly corrected. But even then, they may get corrupted again...
