my FOnewearl just could not beat Vol Opt
is it just cuz FOrces don't have the offensive punch or what? oh, BTW this is Normal mode and I think she's like lv 26 (don't remember exactly)

Forces generally need to be at a higher level to take out most bosses and clear out dungeons. You should probably level up to about Level 30+ before tring him again.
By the way, you never stated why exactly he was giving you a problem. Was it the first form of Vol Opt? Did he freeze you? Shock you? Or just down right kill you? Or maybe it was the second form? o.o

Hm... on normal mode, 26 should be enuff to pack a punch, as I did with my FOnewearl at level 22 0.o... Make sure you have plenty of sol atomizers VS the first form in case you get shocked, and a good resta to immediately heal you. Don't forget, fluids should be stocked to max if possible.
As for the second form, its dead easy. Learn the strategy off guides (I recommend Reenee's guide: http://www.pso-world.com/sections.php?op=viewarticle&artid=808), being a force it should be no problem. Deband if necessary. Good luck!

I'd suggest using Gizonde and then Zonde. Both techs have enough range to hit him from anywhere and can deal quite a bit of damamge. You just need to make sure he can't kill you with 1 hit, and carry enough mates and fluids.

(1) it was the first form of Vol Opt.
(2) how can he freeze you on Normal mode??
(3) yeah lots of shocking
(4) yeah that happened too
(5) it was the first form
The pattern I used was: knock down that thing in the center of the ceiling, chase him when he is floating around the room in the screens, Gizonde his ugly face when I caught up with him, then start looking for the red "pillar" (is that what you call those?), but before I could locate the red "pillar" and zap it with zonde he had already Gizonded me and then I was paralyzed (not fully paralyzed, just crackling, the kind that goes away), and then I started the pattern over.
do any of you guys have a better suggestion for an attack pattern?

Hey, I use a FOnewearl. What always gave me trouble with vol opt is not being able to catch the red pillar. If you can figure out the pattern to the red pillar, then you can whoop vol opt.

ok im assuming you are using techniques, if so try zonde or razonde!! FO's arent really meant for close combat unless you have a high level character with a good weapon.
P.S. Use foie on the pillar that is red. It can vary from person to person, but usually did the trick. i never worried about the thing on the ceiling. i just shocked him as we circled around. When the pillars came i just used gizonde/razonde to freeze him then foie. On the second form zonde him to no end! Just be very moblie and watch out for his attack thats a green sphere that chases you. If it catches you its instant death!

with the pillar is rather easy. post yourself in the middle of the room and either turn or... i noticed that a single zonde sometimes autoaims the red one when you aim at the thing in the middle.
besides this, forces might have a difficult start, but they're the ones who can kill vhard-ult bosses way more early - its all a matter of HP and MST (and boosts, whereas during the 2nd part of the vol opt-fight of the battle weapon-tech-boosts get ignored.).
good luck.

Whoopsy daisies... sry about that, some codin error or somethin...
Uhm... ok let me try a rundown.
1) The cinematic ends, and ur left w/ everything...
2) Foie the little thing on the roof til it falls, altho I never figured out what it was for..
3) Quickly chase the monitor with gizonde until it stops, BUT STOP THE CHASE IMMEDIATELY WHEN U HEAR THE TOTEMS COME... use Foie if u found it, but make sure the target is ON THE RED TOTEM...
or
If you can't find the red one, gizonde and hope that it hits the red one. Make sure that u have plenty of sol atomizers, as said before... they'll come in handy.
4) After the totems shock you twice, recover, resta, whatever you need to do. Then go repeat part 2 until you defeat part 1...
I think that should be sufficient, if you have hotkeyed resta. Just in case, bring along a few mates if you don't have the consciousness while fighting to use resta.... Cast deband if necessary, it helps... hotkey if necessary (I recommend it, if you die in one hit)

You know what I learned? I use a FOnewearl, and I had a buddy with me when I first fought him, but here's the key thing of the day.
SCREW ATTACKING THE RED ONE!
Forces just don't cut it enough to hit the red one. You'll get lucky every so often and keep it from hitting you, but it's harder to find them on single. Just do as much damage as you possibly can! Who cares if you get hit? A Resta'll fix your damage problem, and Sol Atomizers the Shock, but the faster you can do damage, the better.
And... of course for all Forces... Stock up on Fluids.

GO FOR THE RED TOTEM. Last time I played vol opt it was easy I only got hit once. Just stay in the center on the area and when they pop up hit the red one then hit the amp on the ceiling then go for the monitors. Then when the red totem pops up again beat the shiz out of it. When you get to the 2nd form just give it some damage then run when hes looking straight at u, missles are being sent at you, a laser is locked on you. Then your set.

Hm. Nice thought, but:
1) I tried, but it takes too long to cast the spell... you probably will be shocked before it takes effect.
2) Gifoie only hits once, and at normal level chances are pretty low that it'll do much damage...
I recommend standing in the middle... THEN as soon as u hear the totems come up, use L (if ur on GC, or w/e it is to change camera) and quickly rotate while pressing L repeatedly. Chances are high you'll spot the totem. I think that the primary thing is to have sols ready, and that resta is cast often. Like I've said before, have deband on just in case.

Wonder if anyone has noticed this.
1. If you're fast enough in attacking the Red "totem"/pillar, Vol Opt will not Gizonde you.
2. That thing on the roof is a booby trap. If you shoot it down, you'll cause an almost confirmed shock status on yourself when the pillars pop up. You don't need to touch it at all.
Screw Foie. It might be his weakness, but there's many problems to using it. Gizonde him until you can find his red pillar - if you're fast he won't even shock you.
Gizonde will not knock the celing trap down which is why it is safer. Foie, I think will do so.
Only when you find it can you then use foie or zonde to increase damage. If you're in a rush and can't find the pillar, use Razonde.
Oh and if you want to cause extra damage to him, I believe that you should use single attack spells on his vid screens - attacking all the screen at once destroys them prematurely, because he'll only receive the damage he would have taken if you attacked one panel at a time. The only exception to this rule is if you're high level, but by then it doesn't matter already.
Basically compare this.
1. Destroy all screens = damage x number of area effect spells used
2. Destroy screens one by one = damage x number of spells x number of screens destroyed

the best advice i can give is to stay in the middle of the room and use zonde and foie techs to you heart's desire. =) that way you can hit all the totems at once and not just the red one.
for the second form, running can do you wonders. just attack when you get the chance, and if you'll agile enough, you could go the whole time without being hit.

Don't you want to shoot the thing in the roof, due to the fact that once he tries to zap you, he shocks himself in the process, preventing him the ability to shock you again (at least for a little bit anyway?)
