just like it sayz. The guy at the electronics store seemed to know alot about what he was talking about because I understood. I bought an extra D-Link (broadband modem) and I have one identical to it on my computer. the one I bought is stricly for my Gamecube and I have no clue of what to do now. I need to find out my IP, subnetmask, default gatway ect for my new Modem. Is it the same as my computer?

Personally I think you made the wrong choice.
To find out your IP settings from any Windows operating system click Start -> Run -> type in cmd (or command if Win95/98/ME) & click OK. At the prompt type ipconfig /all. This will display your current IP address & all other relevant settings.
Alternately for Win9X/ME you can type winipcfg into the Run box. This will open a little program that will show your current IP setup.

You can only have one DSL modem attached to each DSL enabled phone line.
Your best option would be a combined router/modem, sometimes called a DSL router
if youve got some distance to cover between your devices, you have two choices:
wireless router - expensive but worth it if you have more than one or two P.Cs especialy a laptop/portable/pocket P.C
Wired - involves some simple work in cable laying, but its a fraction of the cost.
If youve got some distance to cover, i would suggest you get a long length of plain Cat5 network cable, without any plugs on, you then run this cable from your router through walls, or in plastic PVC trunking, up into the roof slace/ceiling space between the floor boards and ceiling and back down to your point of accss to your gamecube.
Next on each end of the cable wire in an ethernet wall socket, so you will have two wall sockets at each endof your cable.
next plug your gamecube into one of the wall sockets using a short cat5 ethernet cable ( with plugs) and attach your touter to the other wall socket using the samne type of cable
