The decomposition process created an excess of gases, causing the whale to go plooey. (It died a week earlier or so.)

I could have sworn that it was a sting operation gone bad. The cops were waiting for the infamous moped gang to leave thier whale base, then a shootout occured... The moped was unharmed, but the rider was turned into a pile of goo.

Woodchips can do the same thing. They are prone to spontaniously combusting due to the heat produced from rotting. The heat can sometimes build up and explode, entirely forgoing the combusting part. I just wonder what that guy by the scooter is thinking...
