Why is it suddnely too big? I've had the same sig for about 6 months now, but now I'm being told that it's too big. Was there a change in the sig ruels?

i cant actually remember what it looked like. post up what it was and we can all comment in a friendly discussion.

oh wait i remember now. you had the sword pic and some text. prolly best if you put what you had back in, just remove any line breaks and make the text small, its what i do so i can have a nice pic in, with a short bit of text http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

I was hurt to see my sig taken down. I mean people all over PSOW knew me by that sword and when I took it down, some people cired. Since then it's been a part of my sig on every forum, it has become a part of me.

I'll post it when I get back home.

as in youll put it up as i suggested? or just post it up? i think the removal of line breaks and small text will ail your sig woes. i remember the sword now, didnt make me cry to see it go, prolly because i couldnt remember what it was when it was gone.

The picture wasn't the problem. You had just added so many line of text over time that it was at least 200 pixels high (don't remember exactly how much over it was).

Zaneatron

just make the text small anyway, maybe not all of it. just to be on the safe side http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
still looks a bit iffy to me. i dont think the top 2 lines need to be 2 lines, 1 line should suffice?

It's fine now.

There was more there earlier.

do you have a ruler to measure it? or do you have wierd, magical, unexplainable powers that we can only aspire to, that allow you to see the size of a sig?
btw can you see time?

Normal line of text 16-17 pixels.

So I count them as 15 and give then benifit of the doubt if it's close.

As long as you're not 20+ over it probably won't even catch my attention.

what about small text? is that about half?
hmmmm, techinally 180 pixels is a size of some description, i shalt consult photoshop for a size in milimetres...

seriously, can you see time

meh, well photoshop didnt hold any easy answers, im sure a ruler would do....

this is because photoshop says that 600 pixels is about 5.08 cm or so....it dont add up for sure.

Depends on the resolution your screen is set at.

If all else fails I just size the screen to be 180 pixels (using a 180 pixel pic as a reference) and look at it like that.

oh, i gets ya http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif you can tell em when you see me later......

well, my second consultation didnt go too well with photoshop, he says im just using him now, like a computer program, hes sulking in the corner, and wont talk to me, but no, playing around witht he resolution didnt do much, unless i put in the wrong number, which i probably have. ill put him in your old bag frink, and see what i can get out of him...

well, i dont have a clue, ill just stick to a bloody ruler, using computers to do simple household tasks is a waste of time.

I meant that if someones computer settings are at 600 x 800 then with a ruler the same pixel size will seem larger than to someone viewing in 1024 x 768

yeah i know, but for me, a sig that is 600x180 will always be 600x180 in my resolution, i think. unless you suggesting that a sig created at a lower resolution would in effect be smaller to me than it is to the person in lower resolution. i get that, but if they used photoshop for instance and set it to the exact size, surely it would still be the same size to me as a sig i created with the same measurements?

i dunno if that made mucho senseo

You need to factor in DPI. I'm guessing that Photoshop sets a specfic DPI for the document and that the measurements are going off of that.

I was sorta wondering about that .... =/

Layperson's explanation for how screen resolution effects the apparent size of images:

Take, for example, the PSOW avatars. 64x64 pixels.

Person A has a computer. Person B has an identical computer with an identical monitor. Person A has their screen resolution as, say, 1024x768. Person B is blind/a n00b/stupid/whatever and sets his as 640x480.

To Person A, the avatars are somewhat small. 64 pixels isn't very big in comparison to the total width of the screen, it's only 1/16th of the width.

To Person A, they're huge. 64 pixels is 1/10th of the screen.

The -actual- size of the picture has not changed, but it's -apparent- size has, because with fewer pixels running across and up and down, the same size image seems to take up more of the screen.

Now, the actual -print- size depends on the quality of the image, what DPI it's at and such, and this is what Photoshop is giving you. Say it's 300x300 pixels, and it's at 150dpi and will be printed at that. The print size is 2 inches by 2 inches, or 5.08 centimetres. It has nothing to do with the actual dimensions on the screen if you take a ruler to your screen, but rather how big it will be when you print it on paper.

Which is why depending on your window size/resolution, you may or may not have to scroll to see the full width of the forums. Filesize isn't the only concern with sigs, it's also how big it is on people's monitors. Don't want them to get too hugely annoying. ^^;;;
