View Full Version : Can't we just stop? (About derailing threads)

I swear it seems that every single topic in rants turns into an arguement about gay marriages. What's worse is that one of these arguments have gotten anywhere. Here's basically what happens:

X says that marriage is for a man and a woman
Y disagrees
X gets on his moral high horse
Y reminds X that not everyone wants to be Christian
Z says that homosexaulity is a choice
B says that there is homosexaulity in animals.

(This continues for about 5 pages)

What it basically amounts to is the people who are for gay marriages keep providing factual evidence, but the others are too stubborn to listen.

I think both sides need to just give it up.

You are more than welcome to stop reading any rant that turns into that(which not every rant does, thanks for blowing it out of proportion).

No we can't stop. Sorry. Don't like it, don't read it. It is that simple.

Isn't that the total point of this forums existance?

i wouldn't say that gay marriage discussions is the point of this forum's existence. i would say complaining is...

Of course that particular one is not, but the idea is.

You don't like something and want to complain, do it here.

Unless you want to talk about the mods. Then you form an underground resistance, kinda like the Maquis.

Then I should be in the Maquis.

Anyhow, I think it's not that they are complaining about it, what Ness means is just that every rant becomes a discussion on one. Which I think should take place in Off Topic btw.

And those against it provide factual information too, but the other side ignores it just as well.

And to the second part, how about no.

Lolita, I appreicate you trying to see my point of veiw. As for the rest of you, I apologize for trying to rant in the rants section. I'll never do it again.

BTW, Abdur, I didn't say that every single topic in the entire section turned into a gay marriage debate, but it seems that most of the recent ones have.

There's a difference between ranting and constantly engaging in never-ending debates. Don't get me wrong a debate every once in awhile is good,, but not when you have several debates on the same subject going on simultaneously.

I know, threads change topic easily(had to get some back on topic yesterday). Just the flow of the forums though.

Ever notice that things get to suddenly be a topic of discussion by everyone at one time, where it's suddenly an issue without ever realising it?

There was the load of conservative and government threads, then there's the homosexuality and adoption and all that. But people discuss whats going on, even if it does feel like it's being discussed to death. I agree with you.

Some things are never fully resolved. That's while I like ranting about them. It's all fun and games, y'know http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif.

I see your point but imagine this:

Suppose you're against the war on Iraq, Ness. (I don't know if you are but that's not important.)

Suppose you're a famous deputy in the american government (Yeah, with a tie, moustache and all =P), and that the president keeps rejecting your proposition on not bombing Iraq.

Would you prepare new arguments for the next reunion to try to change the president's point of view, or would you zip your mouth, considering last option is very stubborn?

Ness, you are not asking for just ONE topic on the subject, you want NONE. Ain't gonna happen, its the internet.

Well, as of recently the topics I've posted, regarding my sexuality and friendships, have turned into a debate about marriage (or the basis of)... or for the most part, inspired somebody to create a thread about the topic.

Basically, some people decide that if there is a link between the two topics (gay guy, gay marriage) that they can discuss their topic, hijacking the thread. Kinda like talking about monkeys and bananas, and then throwing in banana rum smoothies and how alcohol should be banned. For example.

Some people just want to argue about something, but they're too lazy to create an actual thread and try to change the purpose of someone else's.

If you really hate forums that have a lot of topics like the ones stated, you should just hang out in a forum where no one is allowed to post.

Then people like me get caught up with the discussions brought up by those people. 'Tis a vicious cycle indeed.

the guy's got a point. if you're ranting about gay marriage discussions, then the thread goes here, like ness'. if you're discussing the morality and legality of gay marriages, the thread goes in off topic and preferably sticking to one thread for all gay marriage related discussions instead of splitting off into 5 threads. see the difference, discussion, complain, discussion, complain. and keep on topic guys. i don't see what's so difficult to see in ness' rant.

No, threads are being derailed and turned into gay marriage debates, that's what I want to stop. We have had 3 threads turn into a gay marriage debate already. None of which were actually intended to. If people want to talk about gay marriage then they should make anothe topic for it, not derail someone else's.

I said give up because it's not worth derailing threads over. If they want to debate about the morality of homosexaulity or gay marriages, then they should make another thread for it.

Sorry, but you cannot debate on that. Anybody who knows themselves or their peers enough, know that is a subject you should avoid at all costs, because it cannot be debated. It's like debating on which is the best religion, or which music genre is best.

What you do in your bedroom and other aspects of your lifestyle is your own business, not mine. Anybody who gets offended by others' sexualities should just kill themselves right now.

Brings me to another point about people being offended by what other people do publicly... the Janet Jackson thing. I found that incredibly funny because of the way my country is. We have topless women in some of our newspapers, yet 'hardcore' pornography is banned to a certain degree over here. The US public got angry over that particular stunt, yet they have a multi-billion dollar porno industry.

Sorry for derailing!
