Small rant. It's so ironically stupid when someone says to another person "you're grammer sucks" (Uncle spelled "your" as "you're" on purpose) or "learn proper grammer", it makes Uncle want to slit his wrists and jump face first into the Mississippi river. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

I'm surprised a rant like this didn't occur sooner. I agree with you on the whole grammar nazi thing. I find it annoying when people point out spelling errors instead of addressing points in an argument. To me it's just another form of topic dodging. If you can't post anything intelligent, then don't post anything at all.

pesonally i dont care. if someone needs to feel better about themselves by pointing out something really so erelivant(sp), like grammer on an internet site, then hey, go for it. but in the big picture, who really cares how something is spelled online, as long as u can read what the person is trying to say, u shouldnt give a dam.
(i know how ironic it is for me to post and have a spelling mistake, thats why im the grammer specialist.)

I dont care about stuff like that, but when people can't spell at all, it's horribly irritating. For example... Using "u" instead of "you" is very annoying. and "ur" instead of "your". Stuff like that make me want to shoot myself.

That's why shifter wrote : "as long as u can read what the person is trying to say"
yeah, grammar does not belittle one's speech

I thought he was referring to the fact that so many so-called grammar Nazis don't seem to have a concept of grammar or basic spelling, but that's just me.

I'm only a grammar Nazi when I have to be, and in my head. It's more fun that way. In general, I consider it a courtesy that I attempt to make all of my posts, for the most part (and yes, I know that's a direct contradiction), well-structured and spelled. I know I like it when someone else's post which I happen to be reading is constructed in a way which implies thought and time put into it.

Well you dont need to read them then, do you?
It would be fun to see you write in some other language. But im sure that would not be a problem for you.

I am only a grammar police if the person I am correcting calls me stupid but mispells something in his post. Here is a good example from another forum.

Guy-Dude your an idiet.

Me-It is spelled idiot, dumbass.

See, he wants to sit here and call me stupid, yet fails to spell idiot correctly. And this happens a lot where people will be making fun of me or someone else and they fail to mispell simple words such as you, your, and like a ton others.

Other then that if someone mispells something during a normal post, I don't make an ass out of myself and try to make the person feel bad.

I'm a grammar , long live my mispells! Anyhow, you got a point uncle, if you can't do grammar, don't point it out. That didn't come out right...

It isn't easy to NOT read them when you see the big fat pink bubble popping right in the center of your screen.

Augh, my eyes! The joke... Still.... Going on....

So sorry about that.

Anyways, I would agree with you, I never comment on how one types because it doesn't bother me. I would say so long as people can understand what you're trying to say, it's okay. So what if he/she missed a comma here? Or a capital letter there? Or if he/she said:

Your going to regret that!

You can TELL what he/she's trying to say, right? :)

I hate it when someone starts arguing with me and then thinks he's smart because I typoed something. I mean it's not like we all use word processor to type up what we say.

Heh, true. Plus when in a rant or argument I tend to type fast and I don't check my work after writing it. When I'm ranting I don't think "Okay, so now that I have vented myself, let me check for spelling errors". Eheh, but yeah, I totally agree.

Ranting and not checking for spelling/grammar errors is normal. Then, that's what the "edit" button is for.

Yeah, for here it's easy. In messengers or at gamefaqs there's no such thing as an edit button.

well then it only matters it the person does not seem to know how to spell the word, just say to them it is spelled "that way", and there.
otherwise it does not matter
