How many times have I seen a dumbshit stick a "no offense" before he goes slamming down on you? It seems that by some federal law, saying those two magic words will instantly grant you pardon and you'll be allowed back into the land of milk and honey with the little birds and butterflies. Okay then!

I use the "No Offense..." prefix frequently BUT, like any tool that people use, its funtion is determined by it's use. I will not go up to some one and give my unsolicited opinion, preface it with the N-O, and expect them to like me. In fact I dont do that period.

If someone asks my opinion on a matter (like... say... a relationship problem) and I believe they are partially or wholly to blame for their woes I will first warn them by asking if they are absolutely sure they want my opinion, as I tend to be polite, but very VERY blunt. If they STILL want my input, then I'll start with "No offense intended, but I think you are doing X, Y, and very possibly Z incredibly stupidly..." I will then explain myself in a cohesive and rational matter, stressing the point that I am not out to tear them down, but to honestly help them see some things they really don't want to.

Now, Back in Agreement:

No offense, but the error in your subject line is that you forgot the comma after "no offense." That, by the way, is also how I use no offense as a phrase, the rare times I use it. I literally mean, no offense.

I was not correcting spelling or grammar, but showing how I use no offense. Was agreeing with the original poster but simply wished to note that there were times it could be used where I *thought* it wasnt offensive. Used the comma as a means to illustrate. Maybe it was a pointless post, fine.
