View Full Version : My little rant 1

OK, i'm very sorry if i'm doing something i'm not supposed to here, but i couldn't find any rules, the only stickey is the FSOD topic.

Right, i want to rant about some of the people here at psow. Not naming anyone, but some people are just down right rude. Someone posts something, a glitch, a picture, some news, a rumor, and if it's been mentioned before, they get shouted down by about 10 1000+ posters saying that they suck and they're such n00bs. Now come on, where are your manners? Everyone on these forums has feelings you know, if you disagree with someone, don't insult them, or 'flame'/'attack' their post, discuss it.

If someone posts something that's been seen before, don't start calling them n00bs or start generally saying unfair things, just say 'sorry but that's already been posted before, it's quite cool though'. Not everyone has been here since the site was made and has a million posts. We were all n00bs once.

If someone says (typical arguement) 'I think duping sucks', don't reply with 'ohh you ****ing loser, duping is great, you're just a whining little ****'. And if someone says that, tell them off! Don't reply 'nah u ****ing duper, legit is the only way, duping ruins everyones game'.

And finally, slightly different from the rest, but don't tell someone off for breaking unclear rules. Like if someone was to reply to this saying 'you can't say that! it against the rules!'. What rules?!?? I looked, and couldn't find any, i'm not deliberatly breaking anything. Simmilarly, if someone 'bumps' a post, you can't tell them off for that either, for more than one reason:

1. It's part of psow, this is the only forum i have ever seen that moves topics to the top when they're replied to.
2. If the staff were that against it, they'd automaticaly lock all topics that have had X days since the last post.
3. The search function. What's the point in being able to search for an old topic, if we're not aloud to post in it? Just so you can read it? Look at the reason above this one.
4. Where does it say how long exactly a bump is? All i can see is 'do not bump', it does not say 'do not post in topics that have been X days without posts'.

Delete this if you really think its soooo wrong. But i'm sure i'm not the only one who feels like this.

This most definitely need to be said. In fact, I'm surprised that it hasn't been said sooner. On a large board like PSOW, finding new members isn't much of a problem but there are serveral board suffering because the older members treat the new ones like crap.

Anyway.....

What's sad is that there are members here that intentionally dedicate their time here to being assholes to others. Many of those members have already been banned, but there are a few that are still here.

The only thing I disagree with is the stuff about bumping.

1. It's part of psow, this is the only forum i have ever seen that moves topics to the top when they're replied to.

What kind of boards do you post at? All of the boards I've been to move a thread to the top when it has been replied to.

2. If the staff were that against it, they'd automaticaly lock all topics that have had X days since the last post.

There are rules against bumping threads. Any thread that isn't on the 1st or 2nd page is not to be bumped.

3. The search function. What's the point in being able to search for an old topic, if we're not aloud to post in it? Just so you can read it? Look at the reason above this one.

That's the only reason I search for old topics is so I can read them. Alot of those topics are pretty funny. Take Scriptor for example, all of his threads were locked, but they are still worth visiting becasue they are so funny.

4. Where does it say how long exactly a bump is? All i can see is 'do not bump', it does not say 'do not post in topics that have been X days without posts'.

It hasn't been officially written down, but one of the mods said to not bump anything further than the first two pages.

Basically finishing on where Ness' getting at...

...The other pages are for reading purposes only, however there are execptions.

1) Popular topics unnecessary for recreation.
Example: Off Topic>What is your real life first name?

To prevent similar topics from being recreated for storage space purposes.

You get my drift?

Well said. I couldn't have put any of that better myself.

However, I have an addition; It would have been nice if someone could have explained the word 'bump'. When I first joined the site, I read all of the rules, and didn't have a CLUE what 'bumping old topics' meant, being the person I am. Perhaps wording it with a little more...well...English would be better.

Thanks for a wonderful rant!

For those of you unsure as to what a bump is:

Bumping is when someone posts in an old topic (Say on page 3 or something) that has pretty much ended. No one has to add anything to the discussion, or it has just died. The end.
But then some jerk decides to post a pointless reply in said topic, bumping it back to the first page.

I don't think anyone really needed that, but if you were unsure, someone else is bound to be.

Hey i'm glad i got some support on this.

As for bumping, well i'm not exactly for bumping, don't get the wrong idea. I just think that if they're going to tell you off for something, then they should make it clear in the first place. I think it's really annoying when some ancient thread gets moved to the top. But, i don't think it's fair that my friends and other people can be threatened to be banned because of doing it, when A. It's not clear the amount of time it's considered bumping and B. When there are no other measures taken to stop it.

For instance, if you want to stop people swearing on a game, pso would be relevent, you blank out common swear words. OK so people can try and do it, but it's more likely that it wont succeed than it will. If for instance psow locked all threads that were oh-so-old, then you could still read them via search or whatever, but you physically couldn't bump them.

Does that not make any sense at all to anyone?
